[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Actually most of it is confirmed. There is apparently still one secret to the controller that we do not know yet, and we don't know the hardware specs. Otherwise we know everything (I hope... :shiftyninja: )

I think someone was on the right train of thought saying the "unreleased secret" would be the next gameboy, and it's compatibility with the revolution. Save any NES, SNES, N64 game onto a flash card (ninteno propietery of course :pinch: ). Load it into your gameboy, and have all those games on the go. :) sounds very plausible to me.

At this point, i'm going to go ahead and say Nintendo's marketing strategies have to be amazingly good, with the right promotion, and commercials, they'd have quite the winning console. Microsoft's commercials are cue, but still not understandable to the everyday buyer.

"OMG! I WANT AN XBOX 2 BECAUSE I CAN JUMP ROPE AND THROW WATER BALLOONS!"

Someone in my Algebra class actually said that, I just laughed.

Now imagine this commercial, you see a black screen, then you see what looks like a tv turning on, you see a short version of the consoles intro, then you see a game, let's say it's Zelda, you see the pretty graphics, and the game looks fun, and the swordsmanship is awsome, then the camera swings back to to who ever is playing it, and you see them swinging around a remote, freeze frame, the camera zooms in on the controller in the persons hand, zoom out, play, you see the actual tiny console, then it goes back to the game, and Zelda's winking at you, then the tv goes off, and it flashes, "$99", then "The Revolution, is here."

Sorry, I like to come up with fake commercials

Sorry, I havn't read everything, but is the back catalogue free for the nintendo games? That would be amazing.

No clue, and I don't think anybody but the heads of Nintendo knows. Some that have been tossed around is

? all free (possible, could be a large selling point of the console, and it's not like they're gonna lose money doing it)

? freebies with games (buy the new zelda game, get all of the nes and snes titles for free with it) - likely to appear in some form atleast - promotion for a pay system is a good thing.

? pay system, buy a card for $20 that's good for 5 oldy games (maybe, I'm sure they can't just go with credit card only if they wanna make you pay)

I think you could very possibly see a combination of all 3 of these with a large portion of their library free for a good reason to buy the console. Some of the bigger games like Ocarina of Time and SSB could maybe be unlocked if you buy the new versions of the same game. But like I said before, it's all speculation.

Actually, I like the way you think, the commercial would have to be extremely fast paced but I think your idea could work (/me dabbles in film and is going to school for it... heh). The main selling point of the commercial would have to be the ingame action. Get the person goin OMFG I wanna do that (sorta like the knife fight/laser room in RE4). And then when it pans back, you'd see a human-being actually controlling these godly moves.

Nintendo screwed up!

http://www.n-next.com/cutenews/data/upimag...ion_picture.jpg

In the reflection of the controller it shows the rare "X" and "Y" bottom buttons, but the actual controller in the picture displays the "A" and "B" buttons. What's it going to be Nintendo?

Did they - Or is it another one of there clever marketing technique...

That is a mix-up that was pointed out quite a long time ago. There were two versions of the controller: an old one with 'x' and 'y' buttons, and I believe the newer revision is the one with 'a' and 'b' buttons. Just a slight design change is all (honestly, what good would come out of buttons that could switch between a/x and b/y - nothing but a more confusing controller than what they want for their target audience, so I see no marketing involved).

I think it's that they took the picture with an old controller, then the new one they agreed on before the press conference was agreed upon after they shot the promo photos. So instead of hiring a $700/hr photographer to come back in and take pictures, then they can ehance the pictures with their $50/hr staff. Rather, just send it back to the staff and get them to photoshop it in. Would take me 5 minutes to photoshop it in. (I Work for a newspaper as a graphics editor and do this regularly to save time of photographer going out again, or in cases where it's impossible to go back out). So they didn't wanna promo the wrong controller, so they just make the photoshop image the promo image and made a little mistake of not fixing the reflection.

PS. <----stoned

i just watched the spike TV video game awards, at the very end my eyes popped out as Samuel L Jackson was wearing a T-Shirt that said

"Revolution will not be televised" did he wear that to drive me mad and keep me up all night (not that it mattters seeing as i work a midnight shift). Crazy!

The N-Game is back!

the most recent nintendo minute at ign is... well... nothing new or interesting, but it would be a good read for those concerned about nintendo not going balls out releasing info on the rev.

http://revolution.ign.com/articles/674/674721p1.html

one thing i thought was an interesting choice of words was :

So though competitive noise may be high right now, rest easy knowing that Revolution will soon have its day in the sun, and all eyes will shift toward it.

the revealing the revolution blog had stated a number of times that nintendo has been back and forth between shift and revolution as official names. obviously shift has some problems of its own...i just thought it was an interesting choice of words. especially since some folks have recently been questioning the integrity of RTR.

He speaks the truth, that is if Nintendo can pull off a game for E3 that showcases it. You think come E3 when attendees see people swinging swords or tennis rackets virtually using a controller they will be interested in looking at games with traditional controls? It is something people have never seen before so all eyes will be on then. There is also probably a good reason they will be using the Kodak theater, where they do all the awards shows like the Oscars and Emmys, in LA as a large stage needed to reveal and showcase the Revolution.

Of course they will! If Halo 3 is being shown on the other side of the building, and your an Xbox fan, which will rate more highly? :p Considering the majority of the popular games will be using normal controllers.. :p Yes it will get peoples attention.. but I still think its one of those things that you'll want to try in store or whatever before it drags you in..

Well, if Nintendo showcases Metroid Prime 3, even some Microsoft fans might stop by to give it a spin... ;-)

BTW, most games should use the freestyle controller thingy, as the shell (and the Cube controller, obviously) will only be an option as far as I know. Nintendo will most likely only include the TV-remote + nunchaku, which means pretty much no games designed with the Revolution in mind will use the shell (studios and publishers don't like hardware options - stick with the base system, that's what everybody has).

I think a standard controller shell will become more popular after Smash Brothers is released. I think an article I read mentioned that smash brothers will most likely use some sort of shell.

And dont forget about the 4 gamecube controller ports already on the revo ;D

You have too much free time, but I must admit I liked the idea :p

I highly doubt that they're going to use a "standard controller shell" for what might now be considered Nintendo's Signature game to showcase their new system. Infact, their has been no confirmation there ever will be a "standard controller shell," it's all rumor at this point. I could see an attachment specially designed for super smash bros that might not be the nunchuck. But like I said, it's all rumor and speculation right now.

I thought of something cute, when you turn off the console, if it had an animation that looks like the tv turned off, but then says, "Game Over", but the reflection says "Game Revo"...you know if they were going to name it the Revo.

Lol, i never thought about that. Kinda clever :p

If I ever had a website dedicated to the revolution, or gaming after the rev if rev revolutioned gaming for real, i'd call it "revo - e-mag." And it would specialize in tales of how gamers who thought they were unaddicted, are now re-addicted to gaming and want their lives and families back.

So it's like a, triple pun on haha, or addicted to gaming, GAME OVER, or how Nintendo, the initial addiction that you thought you overcame, made your addiction come back with the revolution, REVO - EMAG, or how, You had no life to begin with why should we care about you, you'll just buy our **** anyways, LOLZ, **** YOU MAG.

So as you can see, I'm completely fried... it's 420, do you know where your children are?
