Apple Mac OS X 10.4.1 for Intel hits piracy sites

Recommended Posts

For all of the people arguing about whether or not it can be run on VMWare or Virtual PC software as virtual desktops; don't forget that VMWare requires (at least for a decent experience on the virtual machine) that you install VMWare tools to serve as drivers for the mouse, keyboard, sound, graphics, etc. At this point in time, I'm pretty sure that VMWare hasn't released any updated verion to support VMWare tools for the OSX Operating System.

I am looking forward to a time when an Intel/AMD version of Mac OSX hits the stores. Personally, I'm a Windows fan, but I still love the UI for OSX.

Even if it is a fake, it's great publicity in the sense that it has people thinking about the product.

oh yeah? im sure like windows and linux you do not need drivers to get it to install and boot up.?:? sure you wont have sound or 3d graphics or... much of anything else but i bet osx will boot up no less.

no it has been confirmed fake.:yes:es:

Windows installs the drivers you need. OS X will probably only install drivers needed for Macintosh hardware

Why don't they make a OSX version for PC users (Intel/AMD) ? I would switch to OSX if it was avaible for PC.

But you wouldn't buy their hardware, which is why they won't.

Because in the best case it means you'd buy OS X for $130 netting Apple $35*. In the worst case

you'd pirate it for yourself and all your friends netting Apple $0.

Right now you'd have to buy a Mac Mini at $500 netting apple $150 in the worst case or a dual

processor Powermac netting Apple $1000+ in the best. Apple would have to subsidize every "lost"

Mac Mini sale with 4 Mac OS X sales, every iMac/iBook sale with 10 OS X sales, and every dual

2.7/17" Powerbook sale with 30 OS X sales just to maintain the same level of revenue that they

have today.

That sort of sales increase just isn't in the cards: Windows is "good enough" for the majority of

people, and even if it wasn't they'd also have to find replacements for all of their software, get up

to speed with the new operating system, and find the time to make the switch in the first place.

* the 30% margin is based on Apple 05Q2 filings - it's an average of all products/softawre/services

but it's the only hard number we've got.

I dont see why apple didnt use amd chips because intel is to mainstreem. Amd is a much better quality company. There procs are better on every level than intels. They are cheeper too and are closer to IBM procs than intel.

My 2 cents

Realize the mac osx intel builds have been internal in apple since well. I guess since apple started...or at least a long time ago. AMD may not have been around then.

AMD has been around almost, if not as long as Apple

Is it really that hard to guess?

  • AMD has 1/10th the production capacity of Intel.
  • Intel is offers complete systems - everything from chipsets to processors, drive controllers, wireless technology.
  • Intel is second to none when it comes to notebook processors - more than half of Apples business is portable machines

I'm sure Apple didn't go into this sort of transition without carefully weighing out all the options. If two years from now Intel can't deliver whatever it was they promised then Apple can always jump over to AMD, or even serve a mix of both.

Intel was probably the safest bet, something you'd want if you were telling all of your developers that they're playing that transition game once again.

Well guys, the torrent going around as: Mac OS X Tiger X86 READNFO-XISO is a complete FAKe! When the image is booted, it shows a picture of a guy showing off his B**t Ho*e.

So much for that, later.

That sounds fake

I agree 100% percent with you except on the notion that apple will jump over to AMD. I mean comon do you really think in the signed agreement there is any lee way for that? I doubt intel would allow that especially since they are making such a huge commitment to each other.

LOL how big was the actual downloaded file?

We really need a slashdot comment system on here -- You people can't ****ing stay on topic -- The other majority of you say stuff without even knowing.. Ugh, with /. comments we could just mod your asses down so we didn't have to waste our time reading your bull crap.

Damn kids'

Wow dude if you don't like it then don't post b/c your taking us off topic. :-p

I don't understand how anyone could post a screenshot, even if it were real considering they wouldn't be able to get it running due to no driver support. You could MAYBE get an installer screenshot, but that's as far as it will go.

^What he said

If this "leak" doesn't hit Usenet within a two days, then I consider it nonexistant, which I still do.

At first I thought the picture of that Compaq running OS X was real, then when looking I thought it was probably just a real Mac hidden somewhere else and right before closing the tab with the picture I noticed something. I don't know about you're computer, but mine actually uses the lights to tell me it's on!

Edit: of course maybe it's the HD activity light, but it still doesn't explain why the monitor has no light in its ... light.

    • Are they marketed as an entry into astronomy or astrophotography? I do astrophotography. With big rigs, lots of computers, cables and headaches. I love it. And by learning this ridiculously complex hobby, I’ve learned about the objects I’m shooting. Astronomy followed from photography.
    • Microsoft confirms Recycle Bin bug across all versions of Windows by Usama Jawad A couple of days ago, we reported that the latest Patch Tuesday update has seemingly resulted in a lot of issues for many users, including OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, and BSODs. Although Microsoft is yet to acknowledge these bugs, it has confirmed another, relatively smaller issue across all supported versions of Windows. In an update on its Windows Release Health Dashboard, Microsoft has confirmed that after installing June's Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126), you'll experience unexpected behavior when leveraging Recycle Bin. Basically, when you attempt to delete an item from the Recycle Bin, the confirm dialog will show you the internal file name of that content rather than the actual name. For example, the file may be named abc.png, but the confirm dialog will ask if you're sure that you want to permanently delete $Rxxxxx.png from the Recycle Bin. This is pretty much it for the scope of the bug itself; it just displays the wrong name in the confirm dialog. The correct name will be shown in the list view of the Recycle Bin and if you restore the file, it will return with the correct name as well. This issue affects pretty much all supported versions of Windows client and server, including: Client: Windows 11, version 26H1; Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2; Windows 11, version 23H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 Server: Windows Server 2025; Windows Server 2022; Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016; Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012 As things currently stand, Microsoft is working on a concrete solution that will be released in a "future" Windows update. It remains to be seen if the firm will wait till the next Patch Tuesday or roll out an out-of-band (OOB) fix. The good news is that commercial customers can deploy a workaround right now, but they will have to reach out to Microsoft Support for Business for additional details.
    • They said by this time everyone will have flying cars. WELL...
    • A study by physicist Henry Tye of Cornell University suggests that the universe may not expand forever. Instead, it could eventually stop expanding, begin contracting and end in a "Big Crunch" roughly 20 billion years from now. Maybe not as we now know that time can flow backwards.
    • Of course. Simply reverse the polarity.
