DiPietro offered 15-year deal

TheFourthPeriod.com

On Friday, the Islanders offered goalie Rick DiPietro a wowing 15-year, $67.5 million contract, according to New York Newsday.

However, the newspaper claims the offer never got past the negotiation stage because of astronomical insurance premiums, most of which would have to be borne by DiPietro. The NHL insures only up to five years on a contract; the rest is up to the player.

"Oh, man, it was an exciting offer," DiPietro told Newsday. "And it would have put me where I want to be for 15 years.

"We were ready to (accept it)," DiPietro said. "It's kind of disappointing we couldn't, but it felt good to know they - Charles [Wang] and Mike [Milbury] - were ready to make that kind of commitment."

The paper suggests a more conventional deal would have a term of three to five years

15 years??? woud that have been the longest contract in sports??

And the experts thought the CBA would encourage short term contracts. The owners seem to be gambling that NHL revenues will increase significantly in the future. Sounds rosy, if true. I don't think they'll get there with the OLN but what do I know, eh?

Pavel Datsyuk has signed a 1-year contract with Avangard Omsk in Russia.

good. he thinks he's worth 5mil a season because of one good season. let him rot in russia.

Pavel is a GREAT player, he could be the best IMO if he wants too... too bad he's not about the game and prone to injury. The guy scored 50+ goals his first 2 full seasons in Florida. Actually, if u look at his stats, every season where he played 70+ games he scored 51 goals or more

Detroit signed Zetterberg for 4yr 10.2m and DiPietro re-signs with the Islanders for 1 year 2.5m... 14yrs and $60m short of his previous offer lol

The Penguins officially signed Sidney Crosby yesterday. He gets $850,000 per year for 3 years. It does have a chance to double every year base on performance.

    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • I have disabled it, but the app is still taking space. I have a Mac and it is only possible to disable Ai on that, but I think that bit does get rid of the AI components after a while. What we are told is that we agree to all this when we use the devices as it is in the end user agreements, their software, they can do what they like. I doubt that any bill will happen in the U.S, the government there are in league with big tech firms. The E.U maybe, they seem to have some guts when it comes to tech companies. The U.K is not in the E.U, but some things still affect us. Our government is as gutless when it comes to tech companies as the U.s government.
