Which is exactly why I don't like it. I haven't had any issue with any form of malware in prob close to 2 years, and there's no reason I would by switching to IE, that's why I find it frustrating to use a browers I can't control.

I realize that this is going to be a great thing for prob 90% of computer users, those who wouldn't know better (read: n00bs) but for those of use who know what we're doing (almost every member on this forum minus the influx recent n00bs all excited about the Vista beta) we're smart enough to avoid that junk. I gotta stop being so hard on new people, sorry new people.

I'll recommend this to friends and family that don't know how to do much more than check email and play solitaire when it goes final, but personally, I'd rather have something I have more control over, so I've uninstalled it and gone back to FF. If things change or some reg hacks are found to get control of the interface, I may use it again someday as I'd prefer to have just one browser instead of 2, but I'll live for now.

thank you...that's exactly the response I'm looking for...

I believe everyone on Neowin (us geeks anyways..:p) is smart enough to not get those stuff or even if we do, we know how to get rid of it. But you are correct. Most PC users in this world is that other 90% and this will be a great improvement for them. MS make software for MANY people in the world so they can not possibly make everyone happy, but if it is geared towards the greater goods, all we can say is thumb up and thank you Microsoft...:/

hmm no

this is much better than firefox, and thats coming from a firefox fan, ive used it for a few years and loved it, now this just takes over.

And its a beta, probably not much different from the IE6 engine, by the final the standards will be fixed :p

what exactly is "much better than firefox"? what can it do, that firefox cant?

Remember by the time Microsoft release IE 7 final, they'll be battling against Firefox 1.5 (a huge upgrade), and not 1.0. I'm cynical whether Microsoft can catch up, features like MathML, SVG, CSS2.1 and partial CSS3 support, Canvas and all those cool extensions..

This is great it is wrong and ilegal to use IE 7 beta unless you are a special group of users. More power for Firefox they let users use any beta and any version they have no problems.

MS will die soon the way they keep treating users is just bad. They can't release windows with out taken everything they promise out of it. They refuse to put tabs or release IE 7 until Firefox takes a cut of their pie.

MS ahould  start taken care of their customers.

i think its illegal to distribute it...

but not to use it ;)

Like i said earlier: It's still beta,

Most of you people aren't suppose to have this in the first place so stop complaning :p.

586285736[/snapback]

I agree with Jake.

I was thinking if you don't like the GUI maybe you can use an IE shell(like Maxthon and Avant).

The IE shell should be using the IE7 engine if IE7 is installed, isn't it?

And you can move the toolbars in the IE shell.

Why is it that everytime M$ gets some new software out there is people complaining and on top they are the one that are not suppose to have the release that does.

Tell M$ instead of us and i think that there would be more chance that your complaints gets heard and your suggested improvements introduced in the next release instead of telling people that dont care.

Anyone know why? Please help. :(

Maybe I don't have a needed service running?

Got IE7, and to be entirely honest... I prefer it a LOT more to Firefox. The problem i've always had with firefox is speed. i.e:

* 1-2 second lag switching tabs

* Takes friggen forever to open a new window

* Takes a long time to initially load

Now I know how everyone bangs on about how *great* firefox's speed is, but i've always found IE that bit better.

On the other hand.. Firefox has its fair share of features that I like.

* The javascript console is just great.. couldn't live without it

* I just love the Web devloper extension I found for it... also couldn't live without it

Actually thats incorrect. In the default Firefox, without your tabs extension, there is no "close" button on tabs. Please don't compare a modified Firefox with a standard IE7.

hmm... i hope that there will be more extensions for IE7..

a "bug" that annoyes me is that i can not hide the ugly button that opens new tabs :p and how the hell do i close tabs with keyboard? ctrl+f4 doesn't work

From paul thurrotts supersite

"There's a New Tab button to the right of the rightmost tab, and you open and close tabs with the correct CTRL+T and CTRL+W key commands, respectively, which is appreciated. (Most Microsoft apps insist on using CTRL+F4 for closing tabs, which is almost impossible to do with one hand.)"

It just seems much faster, and to me, firefox was always to "chunky" IE is nice and "thin" and just what i need....

I dont really know, its just my personal opinion!

ok, i did it on my own, you BS helpers,

people, go download hex workshop 4.2 (its free) and then open the iecustom.dll with the hex workshop 4.2

and go to "edit" and then "replace" and then type 0F95 and change it to 0F94 and save it

all done,

one question, is there not a RSS icon on the main standard buttons?

w-k

Go Opera, Go Opera, Go...

light, speedy and multifunctional!

Now, if only those 1-3% something, amount of pages can just open in opera alright!!!

To Opera Team, Stop putting functions & get all the pages working alright, just get some code to spot erros & correct them.

Anyway i can always open another browser for the ones that don't open, no prob!

IE7 is everything but not thin.

IE7 uses much more RAM than it used to, now even more than Firefox...

    • Spotify finally removes the disco ball app icon in the latest update by Ivan Jenic Image: Spotify Spotify has just released an update that removes its now infamous disco ball icon. The update reverts the app icon to the familiar flat green logo after weeks of mixed reactions online. The icon arrived on May 13 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebration and was always intended to be temporary, though Spotify only confirmed that after the backlash started. The disco ball took the internet by storm, as the reception was split. A vocal group of users called it ugly and disorienting, with some iOS users noting that the 3D glowing effect made the app look like it was stuck mid-update. On the other end, the icon picked up a following of its own. Its retro, three-dimensional look immediately stood out against the flat, minimalist aesthetic that has dominated app design for years. It even started a small movement, spawning what people started calling "discomorphism," a mashup of disco and skeuomorphism. Other brands started posting disco ball versions of their own logos, probably in an effort to ride the wave of memes that flooded the internet during late May. Spotify has had a turbulent relationship with its user base lately. Besides the disco ball icon, which certainly wasn't appreciated by everyone, the company has also received backlash for its willingness to include AI-generated music on its platform. On May 17, Spotify promised the old icon would return “in a few weeks.” And now it looks like that time has finally arrived. So, whether you liked the disco ball or it made you uncomfortable, it’s now gone for good. The next time you update the Spotify app on your phone, the old, flat-design icon will return.
    • Playground Games confirms Forza Horizon 6 save wipe bug by Taras Buria Forza Horizon 6 was launched last month to critical acclaim (check out our review here), and it became a smash hit in an instant. Now, weeks into the launch, with die-hard fans clocking hundreds of hours, Forza Horizon 6 is facing a serious issue: save wipes. After multiple complaints on Reddit and social media, the studio issued a statement. The problem with missing saves came shortly after Playground Games promised the initial batch of gameplay tweaks and improvements. Unfortunately, there seems to be no temporary fixes for those affected by unexpected save wipes. However, the studio published a new support document with a few important steps users should try. First, affected gamers should open a support ticket immediately (go here to file one) so that the support team can try recovering the lost progress by reverting to an earlier save. Playground Games says this should be done the same day the issue occurs. Meanwhile, gamers are urged not to start new play sessions or create new saves. The studio also published a few things gamers should try to avoid to prevent potential progress loss: Ensure your Gaming Services app on PC or XBOX Series X|S console is fully up to date. On XBOX Series X|S consoles, disable Quick Resume for Forza Horizon 6: To disable Forza Horizon 6 from using Quick Resume, highlight the game box art anywhere in the console experience (Home, My Games & Apps, Pins, etc) and then press the Menu button, then go to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings > Disable Quick Resume. Ensure you are online when ‘quitting’ the game. Give your saved time to sync to the cloud before powering off or switching devices. Do not force quit the game during save screens. Do not power off the device during gameplay. Always "Quit" (console) or "Exit to desktop" (PC) once you've finished your play session, ensuring the save icon is not visible when you’re closing the game. Before turning off your console, shutting down your PC, or force-closing the Steam app, give your devices or clients at least a few minutes to ensure your latest progress has been synchronized with the cloud. This will reduce the risk of progress reversions as you switch between different platforms. XBOX Series X|S consoles, Steam, and the XBOX app on PC all include game save indicators that confirm your progress has been synced. You can read more about the bug in the official support document here. Forza Horizon 6 is currently available on PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass. The game is also coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.
    • If only Windows would have a toggle switch labeled "Get the latest updates as soon as possible" inside Windows Update settings... But nah, let's hide the new stuff inside a controlled feature rollout, even if the user is explicitly asking for the new stuff as soon as possible. Awesome idea!
