'Redesigned' Windows Vista "Start Menu" (Mockup)

Recommended Posts

Wait, if the start menus in the middle, where would the minimized windows go? Around it?

Start menu isn't meant to be on screen the whole time and like I said, it's just an idea I had that maybe someone could play with. Someone can't have a different idea about something? Excuse me for even trying anything

I also have an idea for a different and smaller start menu to go with the middle of the screen idea. But like I said, I'm not very good in the graphics department and not sure on how to make it.

Also...I don't know anyone who ever has soo many windows open that it takes up all the room to the right of the start button anyway. Vista has the grouping feature that brings up the little preview of what all is minimized. That's what I was keeping in mind when making it. Another thing, some people use the double sized taskbar which would give them more than enough room for whatever they have minimized.

I'm glad you guys liked my design, as well as my vista logo I put together. It is very similar to the original because I made my to match it but just have a more graphical feat. Give it more glass, that and I wanted to attempt making a glass effect from scratch.

Heres a link to the wallpaper, I like it a lot.

Oh crap... now I want this Start menu in Windows Vista and nothing else... :(

Screw you! :p

Well then "Thinger" It will be :p

Well, copyright it! I'm sure this idea is great. Might give MS the step ahead of Mac. :)

If Ms doesnt give the steop ahead, then I will lol :shifty:

I really like this a lot. Its the 21st century, we use PC's a lot diferenty then we did 10 years ago. and I think this would fit perfectly in Windows Vista. so the menu is a lot diferent. And if this somehow does gets put in to vista, it will take time geting used to. such as when the windows XP start menu primered back in 2001 or even the start menu itself when it premired for the frist time in Windows 95

Great job on this. I really like it a lot! :) :D

I had this whole thing designed. Had a friend who was going to take my idea and make it in DesktopX and I lost all my damn pics I made

oh well, I was doing my idea out of boredom. But damnit I had the problem of where minimized windows would go on my taskbar all figured out

Hey guys,

This was the design I was working on, I never had time to finish it though.

All that remains is adding the arrow to open the side panel and the logoff/shutdown buttons in the space I left at the bottom.

Let me know what you think.

This looks pretty good but it doesn't look as sharp to me as the actual glass that is for example the titlebars in Vista. If this was made to look more like that it would look really good.

I love this Start menu but I have to disagree, most people i know use computers the same way they did 10 years ago, plus the Internet.

Really nice, should be adopted by Microsoft. How long did it take?

u mean, how long did i take to make this?

well, first thing I did, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil, and started by sketching the whole start menu.. I had different designs untill I decided for this one :D

then started Photoshop and bang ! ;)

    • I spent a good 15 min today trying to get new Outlook to use my default browser instead of forcing links into Edge. That kinda tactic is shady and it sucks.

    • Also try installing an alternative browser on ChromeOS. You have to enable dev mode and run it as a Linux app. Clunky.
    • sometimes in older bios' you had to set a password in order to change the csm settings
    • I've enjoyed Firefoxx64 DE for many years, and Edge doesn't tempt me, and I stopped using Chrome long ago--far too many bugs.
