Thanks for posting your acceptance letter. I checked my beta email and volia-Im in. This is Office beta round three. I have worked on both Office XP and 2003 so this will be interesting. I hope the update is not a Microsoft Yawn-happens too often. I am looking forward to real change and they know the competetion is on their tails.

I've been in. ;)

Now I'm in both Office 12 tests. :p Yeap got invited twice for two different ones I might add, yes including this one. Got this second invite this afternoon. hehe

Anyways guys for those who did not get invited and even others.

The first Microsoft Beta product I got to test was Windows 2000 back in 1999. So I've been doing this awhile. Well since then I have pretty much tested everything I applied for. In fact I have not be disapproved yet. :)

Anyways, just thought I'd give some tips.

One of the best ways to get invited is to hang out in Microsoft Public News Groups and MSDN forums. Tust me Microsoft peepes take notice and mvps, me, and others as well. ;)

Just help out when you have time. Just do your best. Hey you might even become an MVP like a few of us here who enjoy reading Neo Win so much. I check newsgroups daily, check on bug status and update bug status as offten as possiable. I also help others who are in need when I can via E-mail, instant message, etc. Even by phone a few times.

Also stay up to date. Read news articles related to beta software, etc. Shoot even beta test other software. A good example is http://www.centercode.com/default.asp .

I have built up many personal contacts this way with Microsoft employes, met new friends, etc. And boy will it move you to the top of the list pretty quck too.

Look you dont have to find all the bugs in the world or even read newsgroups every single day to be a good beta tester. Just try your best and when you say you wish to test something then really test it. Dont go for months without visting the newsgroups, report bugs, etc. Even if you have no bugs to report either bugs none found or ones that you know otehrs have already found and confirmed, etc. then at least report than you have none. Shoot even report on how stable the product is etc.

Look the beta teams love good news too, not just all the bad stuff. ;)

Oh and when you do apply to beta test a product give 100% true anwsers. Dont try to make your self look good. That will just hurt you when a Microsoft employee wants you to try something and you have no clue or dont have what you need to do the test than you said you had, such as an extra pc with a different OS installed or different hardware, etc. Same goes for bug reports. Dont LIE!

Also, when signing up try and sign up as early into the beta as possiable. Shoot a great post over at iexbeta will help out with that:

http://board.iexbeta.com/index.php?showtopic=36819

So the earlier you sign up the better chance of getting picked generally. Again just read tech news as offten as possiable and check that post a few times a week so your never miss out that great new beta test that starts tommorow or whatever.

So just a few ideas. Well good luck and see ya around I hope.

Take Care,

Will

If I got in, that must mean that their Beta testing pool is massive!  The only beta that I've provided active feedback along with newsgroup participation is with SP2 & the MSH Shell (Unfortunately, this beta has become stagnant), and the rest I just did the basics :/

BTW did anyone else recieve the Windows Italiano, OneNote, DirectX SDK programs on Connect, along with the standard ones (64-bit Cluster & WNDP)?

Yeap I'm in all of them but Italiano. Only speak english so.

Well see ya around. :)

Well this is only the first round too. They are still sending more. I'm sure a lot of people will get invites in the next few days.

So you did not test Office 2003 / Office 11 then ? Any reason why?

Actually I did, it's 2k that I didn't. Have no idea why I put that down.

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
