no... i did have a problem while trying to cancel the install for safety center with it. And it still doesnt realize that I have onecare installed...

IMHO, the gui is better than the last one once you set it to a nice, muted color, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

New UI design

New contact list design (no more hover behavior)

A return of the old status icons

A Sharing Folders status and progress bar

The Sharing Folders activity log is now in a separate window

New Voice platform

Improved reliability

Improved stability

Improved performance

Improved login performance

Woooooo, Nice Look :D

since everyone is posting screenshots, then heres mine:

I think this version is a HUGE improvement from the older versions. I think now I can actually see where they are going because this version kind of has a Windows Vista feel to it, unlike the last version which looked like a child made it...BUT it still needs a lot of work.

I also heard that they are adding a background option to the contact window (like the convo window which allows you to have a background).

How do you get Share Folders to work? It doesnt seem to work on mine? I cant share anything lol

Prince21, this beta is only available to people who are registered as Microsoft Beta testers. If you recieved an invite from a friend, then you will not recieve an email from Microsoft asking you to download this.

this version looks quite crappy IMO, unless you set it to an all white GUI..then it looks pretty nifty..

hey, the good thing though is that Messenger Plus! 3.61 and lower all work with this version!

[thanks to Manson_AAN for finding this out... View Thread]

does this mean that they've stopped creating a new engine, and are just using the old Msn Messenger one? :(

Maybe they realised that WLM sucked so they started back from scratch. It wouldnt surprise me! They did that with Windows Longhorn.

@lsdn: you will receive an email from microsoft linking to the Microsoft Connect site if you are an actual beta tester..

the ideas.live.com link won't point to this build, as this is only for original beta testers only..

@greg098: maybe this means that patchou will have to restart his Messenger Plus! Live development? :s

so far, what I hate is that you can't have mini DP's in the messenger window, I dont like that Media Center button (I want to click it!), I dont like the fact there is no 'show menu/hide menu' button, I hate the fact that it doesn't show you how many people are online in a group, and I hate the fact that you dont see people's DP's when they sign in. (the sign in toastee is also too wide).

I STILL haven't had my wish for when you click 'hide dp' in a chat window, it stays hidden for that person.

edit: using a white, or very light color does improve the design a bit. I had this ugly orange when I first installed it. I guess it's random for each person.

I'm sure once the A-Patch is out it'll look much better.

You can see how many people are online in group if you do the folowing:

Contacts -> Sort Contacts by -> and uncheck " Group non-instant messaging contacts together"

Have you got an addon or something installed on yours? cause I've got the BETA refresh as well (I'm a proper BETA tester) and it looks nothing like yours (but I gotta say your looks much better! :) )

    • For the purpose that it was built for, it’s a great machine. It’s okay to own multiple machines, it’s okay for machines to be different. If every computer was the same, they’d be boring af.
    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
