Maybe Microsoft could make a smaller, minimalistic version of Live Messenger, without all the extra stuff and a nice, simple interface. They can call it Windows Live Messenger Professional.

Exactly what Microsoft needs to do but they let thousands of idiots test this and are going for the wrong audience.

I dont think the UI is all that bad.. IMO it's an improvement upon the last build we got.. still not impressive but nevertheless its an improvement. hopefully they will take our feedback regarding this and maybe make it look good for once :)

all the bugs that I had with the old build seem to be fixed now and it seems much more responsive.. and now I can actually share files with people, unlike the last build!

does anybody have this unusual glitch?

(see screen)

I think that's the WLM developers' idea of a joke. I don't think you'll see "Save Ass" in the next version.

On another note, I just posted my e-mail address yesterday on this topic, and about 15 minutes ago I got my very first junk message (from the Central Bank of Nigeria, if anyone's interested)! Those spam spiders must be out in full force today! This is just disgusting.

Good thing I used a disposable e-mail address. One click, and...DELETED!

The timing couldn't have been better. I just ran out of WLM invites.

Only issue I have now is that only the song name shows up in "What I'm Listening To." Sort of annoying. And with this new refresh, I am closer to ditching Miranda in favour of MSN.

Though I must say, if there was this much change on just a refresh, I can't wait for the final version.

heres the default ui color:

after posting that colour scheme.. it makes me wanna try it at least. i mean it is a step up. whoever posted the orange colour.. you made it look extra ugly :p

you would think with a new name, a product would look a different with the old product (it isnt always true).

The old build of WLM had a UI that was noticably different from 7.5, but this build is just bad... its starting to morph back into that form... they should just come up with a straight forward design that doesnt look bad...

on the bright side, people admit that it runs better lol

I don't know what all you crackheads are saying about it being uglier, but it is CLEARLY not as ugly as before. In fact I chagned my base color to the "bottom right" grey and it makes the messenger look actually quite attractive.

I stand by my belief that most of you are crackheads.

wow.. you guys are crazy. i downloaded it and tried it (i am an official beta tester.. first gen :)) and i gotta admit, there are some nice improvements!

i like the search feature for contacts. the last one sucked.. it was impossible to go back.

the manage contacts is much better layed out.. everything being on the right side.. is good for me, because i have it on the right side of my screen.

the borders are too thick though..

but over all (Y)(Y) i like it much more then the origional beta.

If microsoft was smart, they would just create some theme manager, like the visual styles in windows, with different looks like: Messenger Classic (clean one), The First Beta-look, the second beta-look, and some aero-integrated (and maybe the classic 7.5'ves etc.)

Overall, there is a bug when using the personal contact nicknames, it doesn't work anymore. You can't remove those Nickname's without getting mad...

It works...remove them then sign in and out.

I would like to say:

WTF.

I mean the older version was BLOATED and LAGGY, but this looks like some child made it..!

And what's up with the contact sign-in pop-up (too short for my liking), and the right justification of YOUR name and DP on the contact list???

Both builds are as ugly as each other. You are clearly the "crackhead" for liking the UI at all on either builds. 7.5 is a MUCH better Messenger build than either of those because the UI is minmalistic, the features do not impose on your IM experience, it actually works how an IM client shoud. People will always moan about the fact people should give it a chance becuase it is in beta..well the 7.5 betas were stable and fine and the same with beta builds before. Microsoft has turned Messenger into a complete $^&* hole of menacing buttons etc. Get a clue you "crackhead" as Windows Live Messenger is the worst Messenger yet.

lylesback2, same to you (^^) and the new features are pointless to a basic IM experience. Searching for contacts -- how pointless, Managing contacts -- how pointless.

heres a weird bug. the old MSN Messenger icons are back?

They did that most likely as a quick fix due to many people complaining about the lack of icon changes for set status.

Quoted form the change list

? A return of the old status icons

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
