[Contest] $100 for Site Layout and Logo

Question

Uptifree.com Contest:

The past couple weeks I have been redesigning the entire backend of the site. Now that its just about done, its time for the front end. I'm not any good with graphic design, so I thought I would offer the opportunity for someone to make some money!!!

Payment:

Winner will receive $100.

Payment will be made via PayPal Only.

Guidlines:

Try to keep things simple.

Nothing hard to navigate.

Currently, I'm open to all color schemes. As long as it's not bright pink/lime green, etc.

Must be original, no copycat designs.

Must have spaces for Google ads.

Winner must be willing to help with other pages on the site (besides initial index page).

No coding required. This is for the images only.

Timeframe:

This contest will end on Tuesday March 7th, 2006 at 9:00 AM PST. At that time, no further entries will be accepted.

Picking the Winner:

Once the contest is over (see above), I will start a poll. At that time Neowin members will be able to vote for their favorite design. This does not guarantee that the most voted design will win, as I will pick the winner but the poll will weigh heavily on my decision.

Current Mockup:

Here is the current mockup of the redesign. So keep this in mind when making your design.

Final Words:

Good luck to all, and may the best design win!

Okay, I wasn't going to bother entering this due to there being so many applicants, although I needed something to do until my TV card arrives, so I thought I'd create a little something. You wanted simplistique, and it's what I've done. Hope you like it, critique greatly welcome.@ Past entries:b> All very good, although the bright blue one that was simple and had diagonal white scanlines was a bit cramped. Although all very good entries. Especiallspex04i>, definately an uber-entry =)

Here's my design:

Sweet! Very nice for an index page, but once they leave the index, there would not be much of anywhere for the rest of the content. Also, if the user clicked "Add more files" there would be no space for the new upload boxes and the table wouldn't able to expand because of the shape of the box. Great design though.

Thanks Zenicanin.

Different colour scheme, feeling vibrant, your views?

Edit: @ voidunknown: Hmm, good point! I only really thought about the index page to be honest, I'll have a look and see how I can edit it :p

Double Edit: Now changed the shape of the index box, now can be expanded vertically =)

Nice second version too. I like them both. Very unique and eye catching, but simple. :) I like it a lot. See what you can do about helping it incorperate the other site pages.

Edit: Now that... that is... SEXY!

Yay, shexy! Anything you want me to change, then just ask! :) I'll attempt to do previews of other pages apart from the index page if you're interested in my design. =) Thanks for liking it!

Edit: I'll remake the index page actually. It could be much more vibrant and smooth if I redo it. Although I won't do it just yet, I'll do it tomorrow :p

Thats perfect. Exactly what I had in mind when I made the suggestions to you. Thanks!

Edit: At second glance, maybe lighten things up a little bit. It's a little dark.

On a side note, your design has given me some ideas. I'm not sure if anyone wants to take them and run with it this late in the game but here they are. How about having some sort of modernized file folder shape as the site? Not that nasty yellow color though, something else, another yellow or even another color. Since it's an upload site and all. Or maybe an image in the background, or several images tiled. Maybe a folder with thumbnailed images inside like Windows XP does? Just some thoughts. Is anyone even understanding what I'm talking about? LOL </rant>

When I first started this, i thought it was cool, now it looks like crap to me.. anyone else feelin that?

I can honestly say I'm not feelin that man. Sorry. It has potential though.

I'll get mine in during the weekend, and then create a concept using your folder idea :p

Great. You better hurry before the contest is over!

just like half of the designs posted here this one won't work either.. don't mind my submission, i'm bored.

bai

Great design, but like you said, I don't think it would work. In order to work, the winning design will have to have navigation at the top and the logo in the header. The upload form can be in a table, but after the index page, that table wont be there. The only consistant thing on every page will be the navigation, logo and ads at the bottom of the page. Plus, don't forget when someone views an image, it has to be displayed somewhere. If the image is limited to a 800 pixel table, its not going to work if the image is larger than 800 pixels. ;) Just something for the designers to keep in mind.

Edit: I love the watermark. Made me laugh. :D

Thanks for your vote. Glad to see you use upitfree.com. :)

Any input from people regularly using the site is GREATLY appreciated.

Also, I think when this is over and the new site goes up, I'll offer maybe a free month or 2 for the paid service that will give you movie support and more. Like a grand opening giveaway. :)

Very nice. Both versions look the same to me though. What's the difference? Also, as stated before, I don't think its good to point out a big box for advertisements. They need to be subtle. :) The yellow stands out a bit too much. Can you do anything with that?

The second version has those lines in the background

O thats not a problem, I can create smaller ad boxes and place them to your liking..

As for the yellow..I can make it much lighter if you prefer that :p

Here is the modded version :

    • This is about the already discredited 2025 announcement. Not the current one, which I've heard nothing negative about in the academic literature.
    • So, for $60 we got GTA 5 WITH online. Now for $80, we get a game missing areas (shops locked to the $100 version) and no online. Progress!
