Competition: Logo needed for hosting company

Question

Third time is a charm eh folks? I've got the funding, I've got the people, now I just need the logo!

HostFalcon.com, an internet service provider specializing in small business site hosting, has commissioned a contest to create a new and unique branding for their soon be opened business.

The winning logo will help set the tone for the layout, color and theme for the rest of the company web presence.

The contest will run for an undetermined length of time and participants from around the Internet community are encouraged to enter.

First prize is $40 AND 6 months of free hosting on a basic HostFalcon plan. Two runners up will receive 25% off any plan for three months.

Winners will be decided exclusively by the management of HostFalcon.

Requirements

The name of the company (HostFalcon) should be present on any logo design along with our slogan (Set your sites higher) if deemed feasible by the designer.

The branding elements should be on a white background and be easily applied to any white or light gray without recoloring. Any text used should be a sans-serif font. HostFalcon prefers the use of a simple and minimalist design.

Only Photoshop importable formats will be accepted.

Uses

The winning branding will be used on our website, in online and possible print advertisements, letter headers, company shirts, business cards, etc.

Exclusive rights must be provided to us by the author.

Good luck!

Additional Information

The following issues have come up through the thread.

- A cash prize has been added.

- You can submit as many variations or alternative designs as you wish.

- Please keep the negitive comments on other peoples work to yourself.

- Please do not ask for public feedback from me on your submission.

APRIL 3 UPDATE: The entry process is now closed. Unless you come up with something breathtaking we're going to use what we've taken so far and make a choice from there. We have narrowed the field down to about 5 logos that stand out from the rest as being the type of branding we'd be able to use and would help set us apart a bit from our competitors.

I have no timeline on getting a winner announced. Of course I'll let everyone know when that happens.

Thanks everyone for the great submissions, you've made it really hard for the judges to choose a winner.

I'd like to know which of the three you prefer Marshalus mate, I need some idea of what direction I should take.

I've got a few ideas to give these logos a bit of an extra kick, and hopefully giving them a nice wow factor.

But at the moment this is the three I have submitted, but I've compiled them all together just to make it easier to compare them.

Anyways here they are.

you're saying that my logo is less creative than yours. right.

I have 8 vector layers with gradients, including opacity. you have 2 or 3 layers. mine is original. yours is a goddamn trace of the globe.

Make 40 layers and then I'm sure you will win. Because creativity and originality is all about how many layers you use!

As far as submissions, Lexcyn and Long would get my votes.

I have 2 layers.

I didn't use opacity.

I don't have drop shadows or outer glows.

I used 2 colors.

I never took classes in Graphics Design school.

I didn't even a trace something.

God I must suck really bad.

I'm pretty impressed you made that logo in two layers :p

I will do another too but I don't know the d33dline ... enlighten me ...

The lines are supposed to show the lines of the internet as it is a service provider. The little circles on the line are the data being transmitted over the internet - they link together the words and letters - Was trying to create the concept of the internet basically into the logo.

I didn't want to put a falcon as everyone already has. I'm thinking of another one at the moment, another way to put it WITHOUT a damn falcon on it..ahah

Numbers 2 & 4 there are very close to what I'm looking for.

I don't really want a bird or plane in the logos, but I like things that draw from the elements of that. That's not saying any of the bird logos you guys have created are bad or don't have a chance. Many of them are actually very good and major contenders.

I'd like to know which of the three you prefer Marshalus mate, I need some idea of what direction I should take.

Anything in the middle row. The top one isn't really the style I'm looking for and while the bottom one would be a great logo for an airshow, it's not really what I'd like either. The middle one is great though and is very nice. I like the bird outline look you've done.

Hah, Spyder's logo was horrible joke. He didn't REALLY win.

When I pick a winner it'll be clear ;) The deadline will probably be Monday or Tuesday for submissions. Although if they keep flowing in like they are now I will extend it.

It's not THAT great ;)

By my count we've at over 40 submissions (not including some variations of the same design.) I think we may be reaching the point where I'll probably start sitting down and really trying to decide which ones are serious contenders and which ones don't fit with what I'm looking for, and putting those infront of a small panel of people and trying to figure out which ones are the best.

I may be hitting up a few of you for higher resolution shots of your designs so watch your PM box this weekend. If I don't contact you, don't worry, I may just already have what I need.

APPROVED CONCEPTS LIST RELEASED

You can download and view as a HTML document in Internet Explorer. It is an exported PowerPoint presentation for the people who will be deciding. I know I know, I use Firefox too, and to look at this you need to use IE. Life sucks sometimes ;)

    • Hello, It would appear so, according to https://finance.yahoo.com/news/how-to-hide-your-home-on-google-maps-apple-maps-204146687.html. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • Hello, The Nvidia Founders Edition 3080 video card is approximately six years old, correct? Have you looked into whether replacement fans are available for it? Perhaps replacing those will improve cooling, especially when combined with cleaning the card's heatsink and replacing the thermal interface materials. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • Hello, While ~104 GB of space may seem generous (at least compared to other e-readers which have 8-32GB), I feel at this price point the device should have a Micro SDXC card slot for expansion, particularly if it allows audio books to be installed and played. I hope to see more reviews of 6" phone-sized e-readers on Neowin in the future. It will be interesting to see how they compare. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

Sandboxie allows you to run your browser, or any other program, so that all changes that result from the usage are kept in a sandbox environment, which can then be deleted later. Sandboxie is a sandbox-based isolation software for 32- and 64-bit Windows NT-based operating systems. It is being developed by David Xanatos since it became open source, before that it was developed by Sophos (which acquired it from Invincea, which acquired it earlier from the original author Ronen Tzur). It creates a sandbox-like isolated operating environment in which applications can be run or installed without permanently modifying the local or mapped drive. An isolated virtual environment allows controlled testing of untrusted programs and web surfing. Sandboxie is available in two flavors Plus and Classic. Both have the same core components, this means they have the same level of security and compatibility. What's different is the user interface the Plus build has a modern Qt based UI which supports all new features that have been added since the project went open source. The Classic build has the old no longer developed MFC based UI, hence it lacks support for modern features, these features can however still be used when manually configured in the Sandboxie.ini. • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
