it's a fancy skin on top of plugins and fixes that should have been in years ago. not impressed for the amount of time it took to release an ALPHA.

and for the record, my credentials are in order. i've been a trillian user since 0.6 and as i've said before, developed one of the most popular plugins around for it.

What plugin would that be?

*Edit: My Mail, not bad even though gmail wouldn't work for me.

is pop3 enabled on your gmail account? do you have the ssl dll's in the trillian dir? after that everything should be cool, unless you have funky characters in your password or something.

Here's a better summary then the changelog. I hope this helps satiate the curiousity of the hopeful & loyal.

This new version, entitled Astra, is aiming to pack a pig punch. Not only does it add support for even more IM clients, but also a great adds a great number of features that many users requested. Bigblueball put together a nice list of the main changes:

Performance

Loads skins up to 100% faster than Trillian 3.1

Uses 5 MB less memory

Faster redraw times (important if you have lots of contacts)

Interoperability

A dedicated Google Talk plug-in, separating it from the Jabber plug-in for improved Google Talk support

MySpace IM connectivity -- by popular request

Enhanced file transfers, including easier multiple file transfers

More complete status message compatibility

New Astra Features

'Portable' contact list. Your contacts are downloaded from the server, meaning you can run Trillian Astra from any computer and your contact list will always be complete and up-to-date

One account, multiple networks. Hand-out a unified Trillian Astra account and people can contact you on any of the networks you use

Web

Like MeeboMe, Trillian Astra provides a web client for 'no-download' access to IM.

Like Meetro, Trillian Astra allows you to share your geo-location information -- fun for mobile users looking to find friends nearby.

Online status indicator. Share your status with anyone on your blog, at MySpace or in a forum signature, regardless of which IM network(s) you use.

Widgets - share your Flickr photostream, or your current playing song, or get the weather for your contacts.

Message Windows

Improved image sharing

"Buzz" compatibility (for those of you who live that feature on WLM and Yahoo! Messenger).

Handwriting support for Tablet PCs

Local time zone info for your contacts

Contact List

New ways of viewing your contacts

Dynamic list height -- your contact list can be configured to automatically expand to show all visible contacts

Right now the program isn't available publicly, but for the first time ever, I'm actually excited over an new IM release. We'll keep you posted on more news regarding Trillian Astra, as they arrive.

That does look pretty darn good, I say. It's like someone took a glass painting of your face, smashed it, then reassembled it from all the tiny shards in a better way.

When this comes out, I think I'll be downloading it post haste.

I still use Trillian, I love it, and I've tried other messaging clients, but I just can't tolerate them. Still, I have the same gripes about Trillian that everybody else does, I just can't stand to use anything else. Hopefully Astra will relieve the pain. It's taken way too long to get to this point, hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer.

    • A shame it don't allow people to bypass the MS account, I will stick to using Rufus.
    • Microsoft about to radically change how often your Edge browser updates by Paul Hill Microsoft has just announced that starting with Edge 152, it will be moving to a two-week release cycle for faster, smaller updates. This faster release cadence will begin on August 27. This change comes just several months after Microsoft switched Visual Studio Code to weekly updates. The company said that the Extended Stable releases will remain on an eight-week cycle and that no admin changes are needed to experience the faster release cycle on the Stable channel. The new two-week release cycle will enable the faster delivery of security updates and platform improvements, all while reducing the size and complexity of individual updates. Microsoft claims that organizations will benefit from this change as it offers predictable validation cycles. For organizations that prefer a “more deliberate pace”, the Extended Stable channel remains an option. This change will affect Edge Stable releases on Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile. The Extended Stable channel will continue to be updated every eight weeks, or every fourth Stable release, for example: versions 152, 156, 160, and 164. The Extended Stable could be a good option for organizations that don’t want the latest updates twice a month and don’t want as much hassle constantly updating browsers. In the case of Visual Studio Code, many of the updates being pushed by Microsoft are AI-related. As we all know, Microsoft Edge has a lot of AI features, so we could see Microsoft pushing more AI, thanks to the faster cycles. On the flip side, quicker releases could mean faster security updates, which is beneficial in a world where AI systems are hunting for software exploits. What do you think? Let us know in the comments. Source: Microsoft 365 Admin Center
    • not yet, because at the moment it is not a threat to MS, if and I mean if it did become a threat to MS Office, then it may be a different thing. MS don't like competition
    • Zen Browser 1.21b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. Compact Mode: Maximizes screen space by minimizing UI elements. Zen Glance: Quick website previews. Split Views: View multiple tabs in the same window. Sidebar: Access bookmarks and tools quickly. • I am currently using a 4tb stick in combination with a 4tb 9100 Pro. It's only been six months since I bought them but the 990 has already dropped 1% health. Fingers crossed it doesn't go any lower.
