If the USA team is going to play like they did today, they got no chance on this world cup. Mexico gave a decent game, too bad Borgetti

That is indeed obvious.

Bruce Arena ripped the whole US team besides Reyna, Onyewu, and Convey for not giving it all they had and giving up after the first 5 minutes.

We'll see how they do against the Italians.

ask the World Cup predictor tool:

A predictor tool? hahaha

My vote:

1. France

2. Czech Rep.

3. Henry

btw, my 'predictor tool' says Spain & Mexico will be out from W.Cup starting the next round  ...as always been

I see alot of USA bashing in here because they are ranked #5 and got beat by 3 goals. I'll admit--3 goals is bad.

---But what alot of you failed to mention is the USA team that played today was not the USA team I've watched qualify for the tournament. The team I know is fast, energetic, and are aggressive attackers. In the 02 WC they were one of the fastest teams in the field.

Today they had a bad day, they played A bad game. they didnt look like themselves, they were sluggish and some of their best players were not to be found.

Bad games happen.

When USA beat Portugal and Mexico in the 02' WC everyone said the US got lucky. I didnt hear anyone bashing Portugal about being overranked and overrated when they were down 3 goals to US in the 1st half of the 02 WC.

If the US loses to Italy---let the bashing begin, but every team has bad games and bad days.

Is there a reason why Adu isn't on the team? Even if he is too young or something, wouldnt it be good for him to be an alternate just to gain some experience?

See the funny thing is, you guys just hate the US for no reason at all. I mean you guys just hate them for the simple fact that they are American. Its not as if they always are winning. This is the one sport that the US dosnt dominate in. So yeah i guess you can be mad, becuase they win everything else, but dont try to act like it was the greatest day ever when they lose, because its not like they ever won anything before.

Wow Australia!!!!!! >____< Good job!!!

(To be honest I don't care if Aussies win; I just didn't want Japan to win.)

I can see why :p

Ready for Togo? :shifty:

That's pretty much it. There is no reason why they want the US to lose besides the fact that they are American and Americans are usually at the top in most things. Oh well

Hi I am Mexican I hate US forgein policy but I have nothing against the US football team. They Did beat us fair and square the last WC, I think they had a better team then than now.

I don't want to debate this and indeed is offtopic but the problem it's not about "american football" is the fact that the rest of the world calls the game that is played mainly with the foot football o "futbol", I refuse to refer it as soccer and call the other one (the one about runing with teh ball being held by the hands of the player) football because it just makes no sense.

About Mexico being 4th in the rankings I think its just wrong as there are better teams, the rating is just flawed.

That is the ****ing worst excuse to hate a whole country, just because they call it something differnt. You dont see people hating Germans because they call their leader a chancellor, because it the UK its called the Prime Minister now do you. Now do you see how much a stupid ass technicality that is to hate something.

You're probably going to come back with something dumb, like i never said "hate"

Fair enough, your comment holds some truth :p

Moving on, my dear Croatia better not disappoint me tomorrow. I have always liked them because of their jersey's :p

Croatio is just not Croatia without Davor Suker :(

Mexico gave a decent game, too bad Borgetti is injured, since he is the only one who can compete with the taller europeans.

I know, that is something to be worried about. But with Zinha and Bravo we compesate our lack of height with speed and comunication.

Fantastic work Australia :woot:

This is our first World Cup since 1974. We'd never even scored a goal in it before, now we've managed 3 in 10 minutes lol. I foresee many late night/early mornings ahead. Damn you timezones

that was a great game i *** missed it though the highlieght were very good.....

i say to u all watch out!!....cos aus is back in town :p :p

Most of the people who are bashing USA are Americans. We are bashing them because they look awful yesterday.

Yeah!! Aussies played a really good game. They controled the ball a fair bit and took hell of a lotta shots at the Japanese goal. Like my friends here in Aus were tipping Japan and saying that they'd win... I was like "bloody idiots no country spirit" and then we owned them 3-1! Also the egyptian referee got on radio this morning and apologized to the entire nation about his mistake of letting Japan have that goal!! Great game Australia, especially in the second half. Last 10 minutes was just purely awesome. Americans deserved their loss (no offence) they shouldn't have dissed Australia in the first place, now look what they did, it backfired upon them. Otherwise I think Australia has a chance against Brazil, not a big one, but sitll a chance. 42nd in the world has just defeated the 18th in the world 3 -1 in which it should have been 3- 0 :p Go Aussie!!

Edited by Manson_AAN

Mexico being 4th in the world is even worse than the US being 5th, for the simple fact the US kicked them out of the '02 tourney. Why are you even bringing Mexico into this? You guys were outplayed one full half by a team named Iran and if it weren't for a defensive error by their defense, you would've tied with them. I suggest you take a look at your team first before knocking off another team

I don't know about that. Australia lobbed the ball into the area, how many times? 50? They finally woke up and decided to not lob it in and look what happened, three goals.

Anyway, I don't see why all of you here are saying this is embarrassing. Yes, the US played pretty bad, but are you forgetting Czech Republic is 2nd in the world?

It doesn't suprise me the 2nd best team in the world beat the US

Haha you know what? It was Bruce Arena who labelled Trinidad and Australia as the minnows of the World Cup, and we won 3-1 and you lost 3-0. And if the US ever decides to face us, you can be assured they will be slaughtered. Ignorance won't save the ney-sayers now that they've seen the quality of our side.

Also the egyptian umpire got on radio this morning and apologized to the entire nation about his mistake of letting Japan have that goal!!

Umpire? You mean referee right? ;)

It was a very good game and a good result for the Aussies.

Next match im looking forward to is Brazil - Croatia. The only team that can stop england in this tournament, against brazil :p. Its going to be a great game.

by winning everything else i assume you are referring to the usa's superb cricket team or their all conquering rugby teams, the f1 drivers are queueing up on the podiums and their snooker players that have dominated for decades....

its the arrogant attitude that you have displayed above that people dislike, not the american people or their sportsmen.

Take brazil as an example, they have been the best football team in the world for years yet people absolutely love them...why? Because as well as being good they are modest and entertain people immensely, which american sports team can really claim that?

Now back to the world cup, Togo are caning south korea....a poor match but i really want togo to win!

A poor match indeed, but look at who's caning whom. (2:1 ATM)

edit: YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Hmmm...now Korea has France and Switzerland to go. -_-;;;;

LOL, I was Saying the Opposite, I don't hate the USA, I like their people I have many Friends in the US, my parents live near the border so I go like every 2 weeks. I did said that i diodn't like their forgien policy, but that doesn't mean i hate the country, how could i hate it. I was actually defending the US football team.

I love World Cup :D

Can it get much better spending the day watching (mostly) quality football?

Really looking forward to seeing Brazil tonight, after the game im pretty sure you can tell wether they will win this year also.

And lets hope for the love of god Sweden puts it together against Paraguay.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
