Lost - Season Three

I doubt that. Desmond would have to gear up, swim down and around, I just don't see him having enough time, not to mention the pressure coming from the ocean that would've likely filled the room. There was no sense in fighting it. Charlie believed it was his destiny, so what's done is done.
Doesn't it all work on pressure? The hatch door is air tight so there would have been no way to control the water level?

You can simulate this at home, boys and girls. Place a drinking glass on an angle and place it under water with the mouth of the glass at the bottom of your angle. There WILL be a pocket of air, and that's what would have happened since the window was not flush with the ceiling. Whether or not Charlie dies isn't my point, it's that they showed a physical impossibility to account for his death.

The differences in pressure are far, far different. However, I didn't say it would fill it, just that it may be possible.

Also, 50+ people survived a plane crash with minimal injuries, and you're concerned about an air pocket in an underwater station? He also didn't make any attempt to go breath, air pocket or not.

if it was far enough down to make a pressure difference that big, they wouldn't have been able to swim down to it.

although i agree even if there was an air pocket, Charlie had accepted that he would die anyway.

There would be an air pocker.

But, due to oceans pressure it would be quite small. The oxygen in the air pocket would expire in a few minutes.

Also, there is a possiblity that the air pocket may espace through the window into the ocean and then rise to the surface. However, this is unlikely as the pressure of incoming water should keep it from escaping.

Most people survive air crashes...and with minimal injuries too.

So true.

But couldn't Charlie hold his breath and swim out of the broken window. Or at least try!

He wanted to die! As thats what was supposed to happen.
Its destiny...if he hadn't of died there he would of died some other time...

As they said... he believed (based on what Desmond said) that it was his destiny to die. Only if he died would Claire and Aaron be rescued. He did it for them.

It was believed that any alteration in what was suppose to happen, could result in dramatic changes in the future.... i.e. Claire/Aaron not being rescued, or even their death.

Charlie's dead. Even the writers confirmed it.

Sadly yes. Though it wouldn't be beyond them to say that now, and have him swim to safety come season 4. Throw us off track for a whole 9 months.

I agree with you, Joel. The entire principle can be seen in the main chamber where Charlie swam in. How do you guys think that water keeps from rushing in? in the big picture, it means nothing - but this is Lost and we have an obsessive need to analyze every second of the show...

Yeah I don't get why people keep on this issue at all, it is completely possible for 48 people to survive with minimal injuries, especially considering they crashed into the water and not on the island itself. At least IMO.

Do we even know how many people were on the plane to begin with? I would imagine that was a pretty full plane going from Sydney to LA, so what 200 passengers were on the plane and 48 survive, I don't see how that's impossible at all.

I agree the odds of 48 people surviving are pretty high out of around 200...

I prefer the new format...16 straight episodes is better then a hiatus half way through...thats why the 24 format rules imo.

Completely agree. 9 months is a long wait, but it certainly beats all those breaks. Like throwing a bone to a dog, allowing him to lick it once and then taking it away from him for a while, just cruel. :p

Yeah I hated the fact it went away for those weeks last year when it did because A) We had non stop lost moments which sucked and B) I lost interest and watched other stuff....the hiatus between October and Feb is a killer for any show imo...

My problem is with the 16 a year... I'd rather it was 24 a year and it finish a year earlier, but this way ABC makes more $$$$$

Well we are getting an extra season technically. The producers said they were shooting for 100 episodes and now we're ending with 117, so we're technically getting 17 more episodes than originally planned. So we're going to end up with an extra season.

Absolutely. I've stopped watching CSI because of their on again off again schedule. I don't really have time to watch it to begin with, I'm most certainly not going to try and keep up with when a new episode is on. Of course I could have my TiVo record it for me, but there's more important things that it is recording, like Lost and House :p

Yeah...I mean Jericho was getting a steady amount of viewers then they went on hiatus for 11 weeks...thus when it returned noone cared and it got canceled I mean that will never happen with lost because the fanbase is immense and the producers make sure we are filled in during the hiatus's but I feel that it kills off any new shows when they do that.

    • 1. Define "better". 2. It's still more expensive than equivalent PCs so... And there is not one Windows platform. This is the mistake ALL Apple oriented people make. Apple is one OEM. You could reasonably compare them to one PC OEM, say Dell or HP. But you can't compare them to ALL PC OEMs. Case in point, Apple has NO touch screen MacBooks. No tablet Macs. There are no rugged Macs. The variety of PC OEM design is insane. With Apple, you have... Apple. The problem is that you're starting with Apple as the definition of "good" then filtering out anything that isn't close to an existing Apple product, then trying to homogenise all of those left into a fictional product line and then ignore any innovations to create a minimal feature subset so you can say "See! Apple better!" PS: I was an Apple dev for 17 years and helped develop MacInTalk and disability solutions for Apple - and I have several Mac and MacBooks - so tread very carefully.
    • Major Xbox layoffs may claim South of Midnight developer Compulsion entirely by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft has been making major changes in its gaming wing Xbox for a few months now, including the appointment of a new CEO, a large number of leadership changes, and strategy shifts. However, the company is seemingly also looking at initiating a major layoffs wave at Xbox and perhaps even a studio closure. The new report lands from Kotaku, Xbox first-party developer Compulsion Games is being shuttered soon by Microsoft. For those unfamiliar with the studio, it's the team behind Contrast (2013), We Happy Few (2018), and South of Midnight (2025). Its latest game was quite well received, even winning a Peabody Award for its writing. It even received a 9/10 in Neowin's own review, highlighting its engaging storyline, gorgeous world, and curious characters. The studio joined Xbox Game Studios in 2018, just as Microsoft announced it is acquiring Playground Games, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory. Despite recent listings for new staff roles, according to the new report, Compulsion Games is being closed entirely, with over 90 staff being let go. Kotaku also added that the studio's leadership is in negotiations with Microsoft about this decision, but no official details have been revealed yet. The report lands just as two senior managers of Xbox leave their posts at Microsoft Gaming. Head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan and chief of staff Louise O'Connor originally began their journey in Rare and have been a part of Xbox for over two decades. Dunkan has been responsible for games like Kinect Sports and Sea of Thieves, while O'Connor was primarily working on Rare's Everwild project before its cancelation. If this report about the studio shutdown is accurate, this may just be the start of a major new layoffs wave at Xbox Game Studios. There are also rumors of Arkane Studios being heavily affected. As always, take all these reports with a grain of salt until something official materializes from Microsoft or the studios.
    • The flaw with this analysis is that this laptop has a cellphone CPU in it. In the Intel world, that would be an N150 and those are everywhere, even in low end laptops. You can get an N150 based NUC with 16GB RAM and 256GB-512GB SSD... NOT soldered in... for < $500 Canadian (around US$360). The problem is two fold: tech bloggers/writers on most tech site (like this one, ironically) overvalue Apple and apparently aren't in the same earnings class as most regular people. As a result, we get breathless articles about how everyone needs a folding phone when most people just cannot afford one... or really need one. And we get Apple used as the baseline metric regardless of whether that comparison makes any sense. If Dell or HP released a retail laptop with a cellphone motherboard, you'd be all over them for doing that - but Apple does it and it's genius. I see articles suggesting what Samsung - a company that basically started the foldable phone market and has built them for eight years - needs to do to compete with Apple's unreleased, unspecced and unseen folding phone. Sorry, no - if the Neo (really creative name there BTW - still, better than the Go, the other "creative" product name everyone's using) encourages PC makers to make cellphone laptops using lower end ARM processors, we all lose. It's a step backwards and a capitulation to the fact that semiconductor makers and computer OEMs (and tech bloggers) have totally lost the plot.
