Lost - Season Three

I doubt that. Desmond would have to gear up, swim down and around, I just don't see him having enough time, not to mention the pressure coming from the ocean that would've likely filled the room. There was no sense in fighting it. Charlie believed it was his destiny, so what's done is done.
Doesn't it all work on pressure? The hatch door is air tight so there would have been no way to control the water level?

You can simulate this at home, boys and girls. Place a drinking glass on an angle and place it under water with the mouth of the glass at the bottom of your angle. There WILL be a pocket of air, and that's what would have happened since the window was not flush with the ceiling. Whether or not Charlie dies isn't my point, it's that they showed a physical impossibility to account for his death.

The differences in pressure are far, far different. However, I didn't say it would fill it, just that it may be possible.

Also, 50+ people survived a plane crash with minimal injuries, and you're concerned about an air pocket in an underwater station? He also didn't make any attempt to go breath, air pocket or not.

if it was far enough down to make a pressure difference that big, they wouldn't have been able to swim down to it.

although i agree even if there was an air pocket, Charlie had accepted that he would die anyway.

There would be an air pocker.

But, due to oceans pressure it would be quite small. The oxygen in the air pocket would expire in a few minutes.

Also, there is a possiblity that the air pocket may espace through the window into the ocean and then rise to the surface. However, this is unlikely as the pressure of incoming water should keep it from escaping.

Most people survive air crashes...and with minimal injuries too.

So true.

But couldn't Charlie hold his breath and swim out of the broken window. Or at least try!

He wanted to die! As thats what was supposed to happen.
Its destiny...if he hadn't of died there he would of died some other time...

As they said... he believed (based on what Desmond said) that it was his destiny to die. Only if he died would Claire and Aaron be rescued. He did it for them.

It was believed that any alteration in what was suppose to happen, could result in dramatic changes in the future.... i.e. Claire/Aaron not being rescued, or even their death.

Charlie's dead. Even the writers confirmed it.

Sadly yes. Though it wouldn't be beyond them to say that now, and have him swim to safety come season 4. Throw us off track for a whole 9 months.

I agree with you, Joel. The entire principle can be seen in the main chamber where Charlie swam in. How do you guys think that water keeps from rushing in? in the big picture, it means nothing - but this is Lost and we have an obsessive need to analyze every second of the show...

Yeah I don't get why people keep on this issue at all, it is completely possible for 48 people to survive with minimal injuries, especially considering they crashed into the water and not on the island itself. At least IMO.

Do we even know how many people were on the plane to begin with? I would imagine that was a pretty full plane going from Sydney to LA, so what 200 passengers were on the plane and 48 survive, I don't see how that's impossible at all.

I agree the odds of 48 people surviving are pretty high out of around 200...

I prefer the new format...16 straight episodes is better then a hiatus half way through...thats why the 24 format rules imo.

Completely agree. 9 months is a long wait, but it certainly beats all those breaks. Like throwing a bone to a dog, allowing him to lick it once and then taking it away from him for a while, just cruel. :p

Yeah I hated the fact it went away for those weeks last year when it did because A) We had non stop lost moments which sucked and B) I lost interest and watched other stuff....the hiatus between October and Feb is a killer for any show imo...

My problem is with the 16 a year... I'd rather it was 24 a year and it finish a year earlier, but this way ABC makes more $$$$$

Well we are getting an extra season technically. The producers said they were shooting for 100 episodes and now we're ending with 117, so we're technically getting 17 more episodes than originally planned. So we're going to end up with an extra season.

Absolutely. I've stopped watching CSI because of their on again off again schedule. I don't really have time to watch it to begin with, I'm most certainly not going to try and keep up with when a new episode is on. Of course I could have my TiVo record it for me, but there's more important things that it is recording, like Lost and House :p

Yeah...I mean Jericho was getting a steady amount of viewers then they went on hiatus for 11 weeks...thus when it returned noone cared and it got canceled I mean that will never happen with lost because the fanbase is immense and the producers make sure we are filled in during the hiatus's but I feel that it kills off any new shows when they do that.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
