The cop says six, then he mouths six, why would he mouth ten?

I'm pretty sure he doesn't keep tabs on how many cops he's killed that relate to that guy, the guy was avoiding eye contact so its not like mouthing ten would adjitate him further.

Use some common sense.

Because when the four cops go into the jail cell with the guy who will explode with the cellphone in his belly, it'd be ten. I saw it last night and that clicked with me. Those weren't just jail guys, that was four of his people. The only way I can think he'd know it'd be ten is because there was four cops sitting outside of that cell, because he was just in it.

Smashing Pumpkin: While I personally still see it as 6, I do like your reasoning. Mouthing the 10 would totally undermine the guy - considering it's his peers/friends being killed. Would be the best way to get him angry, seeing as he acts like he won't get angry!

Thank you njlouch.

That's just exactly what I thought when I saw the movie for the first, second and third and fourth time in the cinema lol. Just as Aragorn said.

I hope that on the Dark Knight dvd they put a subtitle in so we can know once and for all. Apparently the imdb quote did say ten, but now says six.

My grandmother is deaf and has learned to read lips very well (considering she refuses to learn sign language) and she says six. Of course, she isn't perfect at it, but that's what she claims. I've always thought six and I honestly don't see what the big deal is. It really doesn't change the story, so...

I may have come into this argument a little late, but why do people think it's not six?

From the previous page.

Joker could've mouthed ten, I think it's fair to say he was referring to the guys in the holding cell who he was gonna blow up using the phone call.

Obviously these guys arn't the guards friends but the Joker's not specifically talking about HIS friends is he, just people around the guard.

So... the guard says six, the Joker says six, thinks about the 4 guys, hmm, then he adds a few more to the six to make ten and mouths this at the guard.

This agitates the guard because the guard is being completely undermined, the Joker has killed people under his watch and this makes the guard an angry man. The ironic thing that would obviously be found hilarious to the Joker is that if the guard had done his job properly it wouldn't have been ten as the Joker possibly wouldn't have escaped.

I do not think that that sounds so propostorous as people are making it out to be. I'm, I'm not, I'm not crazy. It could very well be ten. I'm not arguing, I'm simply keeping the ten hypothosis alive :)

EDIT:

Going back to this GIF:

l_2a1c11e468c1f4e2f3236ee09dac6af0.gif

I have concluded to myself that because he closes his mouth so quickly it is ten. I think that if it was six, then in order to exagerate the movement of his mouth and make it clear it was six, he would have had his lips open a little longer.

It has been interpretted two different ways by maaaaany people all over the internet. Although six invariably wins the debate it is only because more people think it is. For the people who truly believe deep within their hearts that it's ten there is still a ray of hope in that it has not been confirmed as six by anyone.

Long live ten.

Why it matters:

It's no BIG thing - but it changes the scene. If it's 6 - it shows him not caring, not keeping count. If it's 10 - it shows him knwoing the tally so far and kowing where it's going in 5 minutes. It shows him knowing exactly how to antagonise the detective.

It doesn't just like a shedload of stuff on these forums. It's just up for discussion as a personal interest. It doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things.

Then why bother? From my classes of learning animation, it's clear he says six so it's a moot point really.

Scirwode

yea, the scene would be quite different if he meant it like that.

I'm too lazy to read pages and pages, but what exactly is this whole 6 vs 10 debate about? What scene?

The scene where the Joker is talking to the police officer about how he killed the officer's friends and asked how many he killed. The officer mentioned his 20 years service and said six, to which the Joker repeated with a mouthed "six", but no voice.

I think he says 6. Try to say it at the same time as he does it... with "ten" you wouldn't "put" your upper and lower teeth together twice, but with six you would (one for "sss" and another one for "iks"), if that makes any sense.

Besides, the cop says "six", then he mouths "six". It makes sense. The way he asks how many of his friends he had killed suggest that he doesnt GIVE A DAMN about how many. The joker doesnt strike me as one who keeps a count, let alone someone who would know out of nowhere how many of his victims are related to the person he's talking to. How can the joker know better than the cop how many of the people he's killed were the cop's friends? The joker didnt ask how many cops have I killed, he asks how many of your friends have I killed.

Anyway, yes, batman's voice is a total letdown. Anybody watches malcolm in the middle? You know malcolm's friend the one that is on a wheelchair? Batman talks like that, as if he's constantly trying to catch his own breath lol. Especially towards the end.

Changing the subject - just heard on the news that Morgan Freeman has been seriously injured in a car crash :(

Just read about that..

The Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman has been seriously injured in a car crash.

The accident happened on Sunday night, according to the Mississippi highway patrol. At around 11.30pm local time Freeman, 71, was driving east on Highway 32 when his car skidded off the road and flipped several times.

Freeman and a female passenger were extracted from the vehicle. The actor - who was apparently conscious and talking after the accident - was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, where he was described as in a serious condition.

There was no word on the condition of the passenger.

After shooting to fame as Jessica Tandy's benign chauffeur in Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Freeman confirmed his place in Hollywood's A-list when he co-starred in The Shawshank Redemption (1994).

Freeman's career since has been consistently strong, with starring roles in Million Dollar Baby (2004) and Batman Begins (2005). He was most recently seen in Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight.

Freeman was due to star as Nelson Mandela in The Human Factor, currently in pre-production.

Morgan Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel last night right before his bad car wreck.

The actor was driving on Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when he apparently lost control, flipping his car several times.

WHBQ in Memphis is reporting Freeman was on his way home to Charleston when the smash-up happened. Bill Luckett, Freeman's friend and co-owner of Freeman's restaurant Madidi, said his buddy was sitting up and talking at the hospital.

One source tells TMZ that Freeman has broken several ribs and injured his knee. His female passenger, we're told, had to be cut out of the car using the Jaws of Life. A source says she's suffering from bumps and bruises, but is "all in all in good condition

    • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
