So if you do the anytime upgrade from the business edition, what happens when you reformat your hardrive? Do you just have business edition and cant get the ultimate upgrade back?

I'm wondering that as well

I assume when you purchase any time upgrade you get a serial code and you essentially re-enter the numbers, remember all vista discs have all versions of windows, which ever serial that code is linked to, you will activate that version.

Would I be able to install home premium with business product key since the business version is higher??

Nope, as they are two seperate things. The business version isn't higher, it's a different platform. Home Premium has features like Media Center, Movie Maker HD and a more fancy photo slideshow tool among other consumer niceties. Business eschews all that and introduces features like Remote Desktop, shadow copy, small business tools, faxing, EFS and a bunch of other things that home users likely wouldn't want (except for remote desktop, grrr.) Anyway, if you really want all those features and more, Ultimate is the way to go!

Sometimes I wonder why they bothered segregating Windows like that...

can we install vista without a key? How long will it last? 3days or 30 days?

You can install Windows Vista without a key, and it will last for 30 days. However, this is not an invitation to use it as a trial! Make sure you have a key that you can enter within those 30 days ;)

Its hard to read the inside of that sleeve...

How much does it say it costs to upgrade to Ultimate using Anytime Upgrade?

By the way, if since we have an OEM license and are supposedly only allowed to re-install/re-upgrade once, what is one to do?

Probably just make a full sytem image backup, right?

Does the built in Windows Backup utility allow for a full system image backup (like Acronis), or is it a crappy "back up your files and documents" backup like in Windows Defender?

Also, has anyone done an in-place upgrade from XP to Vista? I'm wondering how well it retains all your installed applications and everything; Id also assume it somehow migrates your My Documents folder contents into the relevant Vista user folders... experiences?

Ahh, if we make an image of vista wont it not work if we have new CPU/MOBO etc?

Ahh, if we make an image of vista wont it not work if we have new CPU/MOBO etc?

Correct.

Wasnt it said at one point, however, that Vista will initially copy all its generic files over to do the install, then set up specifically for your devices? If that's the case, could one image an activated installation that has no hardware-specific information that would cause a full backup to no longer work?

Dont know...someone will figure something out.

Someone over in the Vista forums for Microsoft's windowshelp communities, posted the following from an e-mail they received after asking the powertogether support when they could expect to receive their shipment.

"If you are only receiving one of the gifts, your order will be processed to

ship as soon as the materials are ready. If you have qualified to receive

both gifts, you must submit a signed W-9 before we may process your order.

Once your W-9 is processed and the materials are ready, your order will be

processed to ship."

This concerns me. I have a feeling those doing both offers will be waiting a bit as our W-9s are "processed".

Did any canucks try this? It was US only right? I skimmed the last couple pages and some guy from the UK said he did it?

yes that was me.. hehe ive got the convermatin email telling me that ive got a copy of vista business, (proof if needed)

the postal code was set to 91210, but the address before that was my FULL UK address including postcode..

not unless you are ordering office for them it's only if you singly by yourself on your own ordered Windows Vista AND Office to your address however if you read back, it's fine for two or more people separately to order to same address

If you have a Business License and want to upgrade to Ultimate you can and want to reformat you say, I think the key will be licensed for Ultimate so it will install Ultimate instead of Business or whatever version.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
    • The only difference here is that you think you came up with these reasons. You didn't. These age old fearmongering lies (that were NEVER true) were funded by and the anger stoked by Putin through proxies like Farage (and later in the USA, Trump) and filtered down through the skinheads, Neonazis, etc. until it reached the uninformed, ignorant, and gullible -- never realizing they were being played for fools against their own best interests. Even now, despite all of the EVIDENCE proving that Brexit was a terrible mistake for ALL citizens of the UK and that its supporters were tricked by Putin's proxies into sabotaging their own nation, you're still here defending these well-known lies as if they were ever true. Not only are they not true. They NEVER were. So, when are you going to realize that you were lied to and actually get angry at the liars and charlatans who lied to you, instead of blaming the innocent people they lied to you about?
