How did you know which chars to shift (alphabetically or whatever) to get 3scap3grav1ty ?

Someone posted about 3scap3 gravv1t and how it looked like escape gravity, so I tried 3scap3grav1ty and it worked..

the escape gravity thing is a game, you cross out the letters so the blanked out ones match the pattern of the numbers....the first column is all gone, then the first row is 12 blank then seven, leaving an S....and so on.

Random thought for what this whole thing is about - if the 42 Entertainment has something to do with the Halo marketing campaign, then this might be about Halo3 or HaloWars. again, just a thought, not helpful to solving the puzzles.
