Again, thank you Rob and I appoligize for not passing this information through you first.

It's OK - I didn't realise you could get the addresses from that link and that's when I acted. An unfortunate situation all round but I'm confident we can move on now.

On a lighthearted note, I think some of us need to step back and let the contest finish - we're not in-game anymore :p

Jason,

Based on the response here, as well as Marden-Kane's response (see...they are watching this forum), I would suggest that you remove the Flikr images that you posted that contain the reference number that aided Ftp222 in his detective work.

looks like he stopped talking a long time ago...

LOL, I think that we formed a puzzle solving dependent community with the habit to keep

turning up the rocks to find the holy grail !!!

My opinion is that MK is following the process, they have to pick the winners, notify, certify, etc, etc,

and also accommodate the sponsors desires to keep running their marketing campaign, which is

for what they paid big money. The whole process is going to take time, as I said before this is

not an instant win contest, and we'll know all the winners in few weeks, meanwhile relax, hang in

there and if you won something sooner or later you will know, there is nothing that you can do

that will speed up the process, and also be concious and careful because something you do can

screw up the process too ...

Cheers

Not that I'm interested in tracking down any of the winners personally, but am I missing something?

When I look at DHL's tracking, it shows the receiver's name and city, but NOT a full street address.

Of course, it may be possible to match up names with actual full addresses using appropriate tools. Is that your privacy concern?

If that is the case, it is understandable, but I do not think that DHL's system violates people's privacy.

It showed full addresses for 15 people.

No, it showed FULL addresses. I'm not sure what it shows now, but an hour ago you could see everything.

Then again, its not THAT hard to get someones address if you have their full name, but I wouldnt be to happy seeing my own address on a list for all to see. I should stop rubbing salt in MK's wound though, Im sure someone is in trouble enough alredy.

True, but the breach of player's confidential details being leaked is concerning, whoever is at fault.

To protect the individuals I'm going to remove the reference number directly from the post - just so casual surfers won't be able to find it. I hope you can appreciate my position as a moderator here at Neowin and that it's my responsibility to edit this one thing. It's not gagging people as I'm not asking that the discussion be stopped, but just making it harder to find the addresses.

I've made that Flickr photo private. Who would've thought that tracking number needed to be blacked out too?

how come only 10? There is like 490 prizes to be given away, or did I miss something?

Just a guess, but they probably only need to send legal papers and W-9 tax forms to the people who won prizes with a retail value of $600 or greater. That would include the grand prize, the 15 1st prizes, and the 75 copies of MS Office, according to the values stated in the rules.

Jason,

I'm going to say this as kindly as I can, because I think you need the advice.

You are NOT a lawyer. I'm sure that you're probably the smartest 15-year-old that I know, and quite frankly, anyone that knew me at 15 would have said the same thing. I didn't really "know" half the things I thought I did. And when it comes to legal stuff, I didn't know anything.

The fact of the matter is, you needed to be 18+ to PLAY THE GAME. Not just to win, but to participate at all. That was the rule, and any affidavit will at the least disqualify you, and at the most, your Dad could potentially be charged with perjury (lying under oath). Your Dad did not play the game, and despite your claims that an internet forum doesn't constitute proof ... it does. Your picture is included, which is good enough for positive identification, and the forum moderators can provide the IP address which can potentialy be connected all the way back to times of your EXCLUSIVE use of your computer to post the messages. (I've done internet investigations, and this is absolutely possible.)

When I said that you had no idea what was at stake, this is what I meant. Possible fines and jail time, should someone decide to prosecute. You (or rather, your father) absolutely DOES have something to lose. Will it all come to this? Probably not, but you really don't know what you've gotten yourself into. Just the simple fact that this discussion about your ethical dilemma is being posted in a public forum could cause you problems years down the road when you apply for a job and a potential employer does a Google search on your name (this is relatively commonplace today).

I hope you get the computer ... you won fair and square. But you really shouldn't think you're getting away with anything, or that you didn't risk anything to do it. And you really should learn to be careful what sort of personal details you post about yourself and others on the internet. Remember, The Net Never Forgets.

you won fair and square.

I wouldn't exactly say that deliberately breaking the rules, lying on a legal document, and then even admitting to it, would be considered fair and square. But hey, that's his and MK's problem.

If they don't disqualify him, I hope his father either keeps it or at least makes the kid pony up the taxes ;)

Jason,

I wasn't going to post about this, but I changed my mind.

I don't think it's right that you're "working the system" All of the people that played and are over 18 are getting hosed by you playing.

Things are starting to pop up on the internet about this and I am sure this is just the beginning. From what I read, your father is a Professor at a large University and I doubt he would want to take the risk. I think you should level with him and MK.

Just my opinion. Maybe I'm jealous, but I doubt your father would want to risk anything for a few electronic items.

Sorry to be the buzz kill here.

In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
