MS Announces Xbox 360 mini-keyboard (PICS)

Recommended Posts

Price: $100

I prefer a full sized keyboard, this one reminds me of the keyboards on the LG phones.

That probally means it'll be close to $200 here in Australia :( oh well, be cheaper to just buy a full sized USB keyboard just for the 360 I think :p

if it will work with windows, too i will buy it.

a decent keyboard for when im on my bed, and since it uses the play and charge kit i dont have to change batteries all the time and it will be kind of affordable too i guess.

i like it and i definitely want it, awkward or not, its alot easier than typing on a pad! , however, i would like to see some sort of improvement to the built in onscreen keyboard, something similiar to my mobile phone, let me press X for a,b,c,d,e etc , there's like 8 easy to get to buttons on those pads, alot quicker than navigating the onscreen keyboard.

Well, the keyboard fits that rendered controller well, but would it fit a real one?

No. didn't think so. The real controller is too short and not wide enough. How Microsoft is going to squeeze a keyboard into that tiny, narrow space is beyond me. We'd have to use a pencil or something to type in the letters.

You're looking at it wrong. The keyboard isn't going to squeeze between the handles, it's going to fit over the handles to an extent, that's why in the mockup photo the handles look so skinny, the keyboard is covering them partly.

I actually think it's quite cool, something I didn't expect to see at all. I'd much rather just attach that for text input than plug in a full sized keyboard, far more convenient. I wouldn't use my thumbs though, I'd hold the controller with one hand and type with the other. Hopefully it's not too expensive over here, because I would like to purchase one. I'd say ?20 max, hopefully less.

Actually, now that I think about it, $30 is a bit much. I think $20 or $25 is a more reasonable price considering there really isn't much to the internals of the device, AFAIK, it just sends the signals to the controller that will transmit the signals. I'm sure there will also be cheaper alternatives made by 3rd parties anyway, but 1st party devices are always the best.

Pictures of the New Text Input Device

Okay, I'm no product shot expert, but I was able to get a few pictures of the new Text Input Device this morning. There have been some questions about how it attaches, and how comfortable the controller would be with the keyboard attached. These photos show how that's going to work.

Tony reports that it's hard to tell the difference when it's attached, since your bottom fingers don't actually wrap around the wings of the controller anyway. And it weighs very little, so you barely notice it's there.

By the way, I was told this morning that the keyboard will also ship with a new headset.

not too bad actually, i'd have to take it off while playing games though, and i wonder how much additional weight it adds to the controler.

i'd have to get used to typing with just my thumbs though. to type properlly (using typing skills) you'd need to have the controller set in your lap in order to type.

It can't be heavy at all. Look how thin it actually is.

I think everyone thought it would be thicker because in the other pics you never saw the back of the controller or pics of the keyboard unplugged. Everyone was assuming it was bulky. Clearly it's not.

    • Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is getting a simultaneous release across PC and all consoles by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Square Enix showed up to the Summer Game Fest presentation today with multiple trailers showing off its next chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga. The final chapter of this trilogy now has an official name too, with it being dubbed Final Fantasy VII Revelation, following up Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from recent years. Vincent Valentine, Cid, Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and more showed up in the trailers as they battle against enemies, or 'Weapons,' from the final chapter. "As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, the final battle against Sephiroth begins," says the trailer description. "A meteor mars the sky, monstrous planetary guardians wreak havoc across the globe, and the fires of war rage. Now, Cloud and his companions must stand against this chaos to not only decide the planet's fate, but bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion." Following the reveal trailer, the show also dropped some gameplay footage that shows off a new way to travel across the open world using the Highwind airship. Players will be able to swap characters on during battles, use tactical mode to synchronize with allies, and summon their entities. Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine are joining the party this time too. “FINAL FANTASY VII, first released in 1997, has been beloved by fans for many years and has since become a “legend” in its own right," added producer Yoshinori Kitase. "The FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Series that began in 2020 with everyone’s passionate support is finally reaching its climactic finale with FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. The story’s final destination represents my emotions spanning thirty years working on this title" One of the biggest revelations of this announcement, however, was the multiplatform release confirmation from the get-go. Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy VII Revelation across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027 without any timed exclusivity programs.
    • Hello, Having a simple utility to allow Microsoft's customers to configure the context menu, with a few options like showing the current menu, showing a proposed menu/alternate configurations, loading and saving the settings, and a "reset to default" option would have solved this. Let Microsoft provide a recommended default look-and-feel, maybe a couple alternative configurations, like a basic/simplified version of that, and a more advanced version for that, and that would have been very well-received, I think. Microsoft could even had offered a library of different configurations, similar to what they have done in the past for Windows Media Player skins, Themes, and desktop wallpaper. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • No Steam release. It's gonna fail on PC. Even an Epic Online engineer said that people go there for the free stuff and then immediately go back to Steam.
    • Nice. Admittedly, his other games never interested me, but this seems pretty cool.
    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
