I don't really care if it sticks to the book or not cos you kinda have to build it up more to make it into a movie

see what I mean (disclaimer: that bit about isengard isnt actually in the movie i hear, but they have to make it a damn sight better than in the book considering the calibre of the actors"

I thought it was a great movie as well. MUCH better than the first.

My roommate, however, is a huge LOTR fan, has the books, knows them backwards and fowards, etc. HE said the movie is nothing like the book at all. To use his words, it "shredded" the book. He hated the movie.

But i loved it. :D

there were quite a few things different but PJ said this was the movie that drifted the most from the books, so ROTK should be back to the books more. All i know is they'd better have the BVoice of Saruman chapter in ROTK, that was my fav chapter. Still i stick to my opinion of the movie btut did forget to mention that the books are of course better.

the 500 men to the rescue mattered a little bit, Gandalf mattered a little bit more, but the main thing that broke the orcs/army of darkness was the simple act of the sun rising and hitting them.

ok, not to sound geeky or anything but those weren't orcs, they were uruk-kai and they don't fear sunlight.

Remember what happened at the end of the first movie

I almost put it in there, but left it out so I wouldnt sound geeky :blush: uruk-kai made up only a few hundred of the enemy forces at most (the army was at least 10,000) A majority of them were still regular orcs, goblins(?), trolls, tribal men and whatnot.

either way they had no problem making their way to rohan during the daylight so it's not like they were afraid of a bit of sunlight.

I don't see why they don't have LOTR action figures,

can u imagine if there was like a gandalf the grey and a gandalf the white version and such ? I'd still get them.

Especially if they had nice detail like todd McFarlane toy style. :woot:

but they do have lord of the rings action figures!

I only liked watching the first movie once. Second time I saw it, I almost fell asleep.

This movie is awesome. The gholum is hilarious as is the dwarf.

And yes, before I edited the post for those who saw it, I did post in the wrong thread.

Wow.

This board really doesn't reflect my opinion of this movie :p I just got back from seeing and I had to add my own two cents.

*spoilers*

The Good:

In terms of cinematic and visual scope - astounding. The camera sweeps and the battles were awesome. I really felt like I was there. Gollum was probably the best aspect of the whole movie (his inner struggle was nicely done). Gimli's comic relief was nicely done too.

The Bad:

After watching it, I just kinda sat there going, "ehh...". I dunno, the first one has this magical appeal to me (seen it 4 times already :D) but this one just kinda fell flat. Maybe I set my expectations too high.

For one, the musical score failed IMO. I could only discern one new musical track... everything else was either from the first or too ambient.

Character development was nil for the new characters. It was too hard to get any feel for them. It just felt like, "here's blahblah, son of blahblah" and that was it. I never read the books and that evil guy who councils the King of Rohan appeared to come out of nowhere. The King's son also had barely any development and there was one other guy that I had NO IDEA who he was the whole movie (he was always around the King, helped put his armor on). The guy from the aint-it-cool website kinda commented on this too. I dunno, I don't think of myself as being too stupid to watch movies and I generally pick this stuff up but I couldn't with "Two Towers". Too many new faces and not enough development.

All the bouncing around kinda threw me off too :\ Granted, they had to do that cuz the fellowship was in pieces but I dunno, if they focused a little less on the action and getting s'more story in place, it would've been more coherent.

I could tell that the main focus was the Helm's Deep battle. While that was awesome, the rest just felt kinda shallow and long winded. The first half was especially slow and the last was all fighting w/ no story to back it all up. What was with Gandalf riding like a holy man in the last scene? He seemed too unreal... not even as human as when he was "the Grey". Where did he find King Rohan's son? How did Rohan's son's army turn that big??? (in the beginning he said only him and his small legion still fought for Rohan). How did they manage to kill off like the remaining 2,000 or so of Sauraman's troops. Why did that Rohan lady fall in love with Aragorn... they only met for like 2 seconds.

I have a feeling that all this is answered in the book but Jackson really hasted things up IMO. I also read somewhere that he cut out the last 100 or so pages and left the cliffhanger. Wonder what he's gonna do about "Return of the King" :\

Maybe I expected too much, but overall, I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

The LA Times review had a funny comment about that aspect:

"I am Zornorph," says another, proudly, "the One Who Comes by Night to the Neighbor's Yard, and this is Princess Sheewana, Barker of Great Annoyance and Daughter of Queen La, Stainer of Persian Rugs."

Glad to see positive reviews from both reviewers and those who have watched it. I'll have to wait til next week to see TTT...but I couldn't wait to see it. Peter Jackson have done it again, congratulations to his effort to bring this awesome sequel of LOTR :woot: :yes:

Geek attack!

Firstly, there were no normal Mordor Orcs at the basttle of helms deep, they were all Uruk Hai bred for that specific purpose.

Secondly, since they were Uruk Hai the have no fear of sunlight, however, they do poop themselves of Gandalf when he is shining all brilliant white and waving the flame of Arnor at them :D

Thirdly, the 500 Vs 10,000 is not unrealistic really as Alexander the Great once lead an army of 200 against one of 4000 and won because he had a very defensible position.

Anyone notice the really fake special effect in the movie? not really spoiling anything I don't think, its very obvious when it happens..

like when Legolas swoops around and lands on top of that horse? the audience cheered and clapped when he did that. i thought it was kinda lame to tell you the truth.

heheh the audience did that in my theater too and i thoguht it was also lame.

oh and to the other people whjo were talkin about uruk-hai and etc. dont forget the trees! they helped kill the rest at Helm's Deep ( i know they didnt turn the tide but they were a factor in it), i was so mad they got rid of that in the movie :( Oh and the sunlight more gave the men hope then scared the uruk-hai.

Just went and saw it again. WOW again, 2nd time is so amazing also.

The crowd wasnt into it as much as the midnight showing i went to but still a good experience.

I really learned to appreciate why they did certain things and how they edited the book also.

If you just take it as a film. Its brilliant. Really fast pace and there are loads of things happening at the same time.

This is definately film of the year. Before I wasnt too sure but now I am.

The 2nd viewing is definately recommended to appreciate the film. :)

I'm so glad u said that because after reaidng allthis criticism i ALMOST began to dobut how ubercool the movie was, this reaffirms me though, damn i still cant believe i havent seen it again yet!!!!!! drooooooooool
