|OFFICIAL| Halo 3 Beta Blowout

I'm on PST, but I'll stay up late if I have to to play with you guys. I can't tell you how much more fun it is to play with people you know versus a bunch of strangers. Not to mention we seem to kick everybody's ass when we are on the same team :)

Fixed my name for you. :p

Haha, but yea, I was pretty annoyed because we had a really good group going and that last game on Valhalla was a lot of fun, so I definitely didn't want to leave. But, alas, I had to get it done before it got dark and since the pick-up was the next morning. Ah well...

BTW, I think we should set up some consistent time that the majority of Neowin players are available and can go online. That way we can have some Neowin matches every night, if possible. What do you guys think and what times are good for everyone? I'm usually able to go on anytime after 6pm EST.

im usually on by 730 or so

My God i just realised how annoying the kids/morons are on xbox live i mean id encountered these beasts before on Call of Duty 2 but here theyre just pure morons i had a kid say he was gonna jack off in my face :s one kid who could no controll the volume of his voice  and another who thought the game was a kareoke session  so i beg thee fellow neowinians let os unite and have some games together because the rest of the halo comunity bar some really SUCK....

im on from 7pm GMT ill be on around the time Munky is...

Green_Eye I know I should not laugh at that, but when the kid joined the game, trash talk from the begining and then he comes out saying he wants to jack off in your face, it was amusing, but that game was full of kids screaming, shouting abuse. But that aside most of the games, have been quite good, most people wanting to Co-ordinate attacks, and those couple of Territories games went well for us.

I will be around again tonight, and I suggest if there is not 6 of us Neowians, then we should play the smaller team games, so its only us on our team.

See ya later.

Unfortunately not sure I am going to get to play at all the next few days. Besides work, I took on two freelance jobs and both clients want their designs before the Holiday weekend coming up, so I am basically working the next few days and nights nearly 24/7. I hate money, but need it.

:o Shouldn't that be "I hate work, but I need the money" :p

Lol Greeneye, I know you were getting really p***ed at that kid last night, but I couldn't but laugh a little just because it was such a strange thing for him to say. Thank god I don't hear these morons during the matches

I'm on usually after 7 or 8 GMT, I'll stay on late to play with you guys over the pond if there you're online before 3am GMT

This is when the Reputation ratings come in handy. I just had a jackass singing the last round I paid. I told him to be quiet and he replies "Why? Because my score is better than yours?" to which I foolishly replied "No, because you sound like a 9 year old who's testicles haven't dropped yet".

The point of my rambling is, I submitted feedback on him and said he was abusing communications. Conversely, if i come across anyone who does nothing but make my experience more enjoyable, I make sure to jump on and give them positive feedback.

It takes about five seconds to mute somebody. And believe me, that's a whole lot more effective than asking them to stop.

Heh. I was playing BTB the other day. One of the guy who ended up on my team was blasting some undiscernible music. Annoying as hell. I took the 3 seconds it takes to mute him. Unfortunately I had another idiot on my team who, despite me telling him about the mute function, proceded to keep telling the guy to stop it and calling him a f****t the whole game. Surprisingly, I think my team won that game.

    • If you have a TV in your living room, chances are you can probably just use the Steam Link app and play your huge PC in big picture mode, effectively giving you the Steam Machine experience to see if you'd actually like it. The good news is the Steam Machine can have it's drives upgraded. It has a USB-C 10Gbs port as well, so the 512GB drive could be quickly moved to an external enclosure and repurposed.
    • This machine could very well be a second gaming PC for their living room as a console experience. So we would have to assume their main PC exists as well; With that said, I have 10gb home network with a 2.5gigabit internet connection here so we tend to have more than enough speed to download games. However, we can't make use of the 10gb LAN using Steam's built in transfer tool because it always compresses transfers and that slows the transfer down to well below a standard gigabit port speeds, sometimes as slow as 200-300Mb/s transfers. While that's probably still faster than most internet connections anyway, if they'd fix the LAN transfer issue it'd be upto x5 faster even on a gigabit LAN, than simply dropping a 2.5gbe port on there with hopes of a few people having fast internet connections. There are solutions, work arounds, like using LANCache if you run a NAS... or simply copying the files over manually using a network share.
    • Samsung announces ultra-fast UFS 5.0 storage to supercharge mobile AI by Paul Hill Local AI models tend to run a lot more slowly than cloud services like Claude and Gemini; however, Samsung has just announced that it has developed its UFS 5.0 solution, which increases data transfer to speeds of 10.8GB/s, enabling faster storage and processing in mobile memory that has the potential to provide more optimal local AI experiences. Commenting on this development, Jangseok Choi, head of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said: If you’ve tried local AI, you’ll know it can be quite slow, especially if using the larger parameter models. By developing this new solution, Samsung says that storage is evolving from just storing data to a core piece of infrastructure that supports AI computation, too. The Korean company said that UFS 5.0 integrates the latest embedded memory interface standard from JEDEC and achieves up to 10.8 gigabytes per second (GB/s) transfer speeds. Regarding write speeds, Samsung UFS 5.0 can reach 9.5 GB/s. Both the read and write speeds are twice as fast as those of the previous UFS 4.1 standard. Aside from being ideal for local AI, Samsung’s UFS 5.0 is more power efficient by 40% compared to UFS 4.1. Samsung achieved this by implementing innovations such as clock gating and multi-voltage technologies. UFS 5.0 is also ultra-compact at just 7.5mm x 13mm x 0.9mm; that is 16.7% smaller than UFS 4.1. The company said it will be bringing it to multiple devices in the future, including mobile, wearable, and extended reality.
    • A bit like the steamdeck, this probably isn't for you.
    • Gamers Nexus already did their review, and building your own will be faster and cheaper, so not very convincing.
