Microsoft Starts Banning 360s on LIVE - MS Confirms

Recommended Posts

If you didn't mod your console and got banned, couldn't you just send it in to prove to them it's legit? Would probably even get some free stuff out of the deal for the false accusation. At least I know I would sure as hell demand free stuff.

I'm actually quite willing to do that if it isn't resolved in the next few days. I bought my 360 about 4-5 months ago, brand new. It has never been tampered with.

Won't everyone who has put in the effort to mod a console just buy a new console at Wal-Mart and return the old one?
Quite possible. And this will screw over the next person who gets the box and wonders about the error codes. They might think it is their network connection for a while. Then they will have to convince Microsoft to un-do the ban on the box.

Interesting complications.

Are you banning for things like fan mods, case mods and cooling mods as well? If so, I don't think that's fair at all. Poeple put a lot of work into those, and they shouldn't be banned for just making thier console look better and run better. What is "tampered" in your eyes?

No, it relates to people altering the firmware on the DVD drives I think. It allows discs without copy protection to be run.

well... all I can say is that not even one of the casualties on this war is "innocent" every one and single console that got banned was tampered in some way or another and we already know of a lot of people trying to revert the process... and you know what? you can take us to court whenever you want, we will probe you're lying and we will counter any of those lawsuits and will laugh our asses as hard as we can when you get jail time for all the stupid things you did... go ahead, make my day!

thanks god the system works, somehow but it still works!

Just like the Windows Genuine Advantage false positives eh.....

One thing that has me wondering is:

Does Microsoft really think that Live is that important to some people that the threat of getting banned from it will make people go back?

Sooner or later, like with the Xbox, some application like XboxConnect will come out, and getting banned from Live will mean squat.

There's already a better application than XBC. X-Link Kai is starting up strongly.

I don't think there's any justification for the people saying that they are innocent. If there REALLY is a discrepancy, why don't they send back their xbox to MS to check it over, instead of complaining to everyone? To be honest, I don't think MS hardly wins when they ban people. Modders can still play their "back-ups" (), have a RENEWED spirit to hack the Xbox FURTHER, and lose a very small portion of the Xbox Gold membership. That really doesn't help the money lost from "back-uped games".

Oh, and I think it's kind of funny how MS only bans the console itself, so that they can still say they have a huge XBL membership. :p

They are not trying to get back money from backed up games... They are trying to stop modders from messing up online games for the rest of us.

Take Halo 2 for example - That was fun till all the modders dominated every match.

This is good news, I dont know why anyone would think otherwise... Unless you pirate of course.

See thats what MS wants you to believe. A dvd firmware hacked 360 cant cheat anymore than you console can.

Anyway i shall be back on halo3 soon :)

agreed

No there not, if you were pirating games, MS makes $7 on every game sold for $60...thats there licensing fee, so for every game that you played and did not buy, they lost $7

Then dont buy their product, i really find it hard to belive that people playing backups are not pirating and people playing backups/modding are causing MS money to protect those legitamit users...Everyone who buys a 360 and plans to play it on live ( this is the key here as you can still use your 360) knows that modded consoles or disks is against the EULA, stop trying to get things for free that caused other people to work hard to create

They "didn't earn" those 7 bucks doesn't mean that they lost em. Perhaps the person wasn't going to buy certain games in the first place.

thats completely true

when someone finally gets homebrew working on a 360

thats the day i give up Live!

To be completely honest, modding a DVD drive is extremely different from hacking/decompiling/messing around with the contents of the game itself. Regarding to the Halo 2 example, that's more of MS' fault for not being able to detect it. Also, it's not that hard to get rid of people who mod the game itself with the 360, since there's a handy "Report" button.

For now. Who knows what could have been developed in the future? I'm not saying that cheating was the only reason to stop it, or even that it was the primary factor, but Microsoft had to put a stop to it.

Perhaps the person shouldn't have been able to play the games at all then.

no the mistake made with halo 2 was mainly the fact bungie released the new maps and the update, that didnt get checked for alterations

which was saved onto the HDD in the xbox so it could be altered much easier, that is why you would see so little modding on old maps.

it was still there but you would have to fork out quite a lot for the hard modding of your box whereas you could soft-mod your xbox and run altered maps and games for almost nothing

My friend has not been ban yet i played halo 3 with him yesterday and he has his 360 modded. Well anyways I think all the people saying good ritens are dumb! You act like they are cheating or doing bad for you guys. They payed for Xbox Live just like you guys right? They didn't pay for the game but they did pay for the service that you payed for aswell. I think they shouldn't ban people. It is going to be less people to play wit just remember that guys!

So are you say that a system that has maybe 1,000 users on at a time can compete with one that has millions?

A lot of people don't realize that you CAN hack a 360 game, and this is probably why they brought out the ban stick.

Incase you don't know GoW was hacked. You can edit the config file from the game iso and reburn with your own settings.

They are doing the people who buy games legally harm - by pirating them, they push up the price of a game to the end user.

Just remember that!

Frankly I don't want to play against somebody who hasn't paid for the game I have.

Oh, and by the way, it's "good riddance."

Actually i would rather avoid hackers completely than have a bad online experience then go to the effort of actually reporting him.

Even before they started banning people I don't think I've seen anybody cheat. In fact, I don't really run into modders anymore in Halo 2. Even though, the less people out there who download their games and cheat the better. For the rest of those that don't cheat and so on, but have a modded console...it's to bad Microsoft can't help somehow.

    • I'm so conflicted with the Google Search AI summaries. On one hand I don't like how it's harming smaller websites by greatly reducing traffic which will harm us all in the long run but on the other hand those AI summaries often give me the information I'm after. I have never once clicked on 'show me more' though and never will.
    • Not a single company as small or large it may be is obligated to subsidize its products and sell them at a loss. Your way of thinking is socialist and as a West German with a German brother state but impoverished by state dictatorship and a socialist command economy situated to the East i can tell you - this kind of thinking very quickly leads to products not being produced anymore at all.
    • Apple reportedly has a second-generation iPhone Fold planned for 2027 by Hamid Ganji The iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated tech products expected to debut this fall. It will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, ushering in a new product category for the company. While the first generation has yet to hit the shelves, a new leak suggests Apple has already begun work on its successor. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claims that the second-generation iPhone Fold has already been confirmed, meaning Apple could launch a successor in fall 2027. The foldable iPhone is also reportedly referred to as the “iPhone Ultra,” though it remains unclear whether Apple will ultimately choose that branding, especially as Samsung is rumored to rename the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra this year. The leaker also claims that the second-generation foldable will feature a wider folding display while reusing the same screen found in the first generation. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer screen in a passport-style form factor. It has already been reported that Apple plans to change its iPhone release cycle in 2026 to spread launches throughout the year. Under this strategy, the iPhone Fold is expected to debut this fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 are expected to arrive later in 2026 or in early 2027. Speaking of the iPhone Air, Digital Chat Station says Apple remains undecided about a third-generation model. The company is reportedly waiting to see how the iPhone Air 2 performs in the market, and if sales disappoint, a successor may never materialize. As we reported this week, the iPhone Air has not been scrapped from Apple’s plans. The second-generation model is reportedly scheduled for spring 2027 and could introduce upgrades such as an additional rear camera for ultrawide photography and improved battery life.
    • ahh yes the good old your opinion differs from mine so you are therefore insane lol destiny 1 had no agenda pushing and was a massive success of a game, if you clearly look online the team for some reason thought they had too many men on the team and went on a woman and dei recruitment drive and we all know how destiny 2 performed from then on in
    • The limited imaginations and business acumen of non-dominant players is simply that: the abject lack of creative business acumen. Businesses often want to operate in a financially-rewarding marketplace (free market economics) and/or exit/cash-out at maximal financial recompense. Money is their incentive; regulations are both their obstacles and their tools; politics is their means of influencing the marketplace. Google, in this story's example, is crying that AWS and Azure are "too dominant" -- cuz Google Cloud is not printing as much money as Alphabet wants (although it is still dramatically more than they actually need). The EU DMA should truly follow-the-money and treat the EU as its own sovereign nation in order to protect European market players: Domestic entities are exempt from market-influence regulations until absolute monopoly is achieved; Foreign (non-EU/non-Euro) entities are all regulated via stricter DMA measures whereby regulated partnership with independent domestic entity becomes the only way for foreign entities to 'tip the scale' for favorable financial remunerations. Basically create a dual-track aligning with China's foreign investment models. In my eyes, this is the only way to properly protect the European marketplace beyond the current dot-com/ai-bubble/social-media crazes.
