Microsoft Starts Banning 360s on LIVE - MS Confirms

Recommended Posts

Heyo: I think it is your understanding of contractual law that should be in dispute here. Microsoft are not discriminating against anyone. They run a network and have the right to determine hat hardware connects to that network.

When you sign up - you agree to the terms. This forms the legal basis for a contract. You are in no way forced into that contract, and you have the option of not entering into it.

Once the contract is agreed, any modification of the hardware (as stared in the contract agreed to by both parties) may result in termination. This is nothing new - nothing is actually changing here. The contract has not been changed - they are not taking away any existing rights - they are simply enforcing something now.

If you feel that I am wrong on any case, please show me where and why. You seem to be confusing contractual law with discrimination - which are very different things. There is no "human right" to access Live.

I know this is the kind of topic I have to stay away from but...

This is not just about a corporation defending its rights, it's about people... people like Brandon Live and I and many others who's pay check come from those "heartless corporation".

Every time you pirate some from us is like if you were taking that money from our wallets; kids, we're humans too? we need to eat, pay bills, taxes, go to school and do all the same stuff you do and by doing something that you know is plain wrong you're making our lives miserable. It hurts a lot when people calls you monopolist or any other stupid name they can think of because as employees we try to excel in what we do to make the things you do every day a lot easier and enjoyable and what we get in return... "F*CK YOU MICROSOFT!&quot:cry:y:

It really breaks my heart when you get this kind of response from people and we know we're not supposed to expect honors and glory for what we do but a "thank you" is something we rarely hear... so, next time you want to bitch about something even if know you're right please think of all the people working behind those projects, in the end we're all humans:happy:y:

Thanks!:):)

Sx, i think the reason you here so much gripe, is only the people who have modded consoles can no long play on live are all coming out of the woods the complain that "making backups" is there right blah blah blah we all know there argument...I serioulsy cant see how someone is so paranoid over possibly scratching a $60 disk....hech what about there 20-30k car...do they never drive it, or do they make a backup of there car.....

I am very thankful that you keep your users on Live legal and hack free...some one hacking the game is the only thing that ****es me more off than the colorful language of 9yr olds whose mom bought them x360 so they can act like there a macho hardass.

Now im sure someone in here will complain "wutz about teh innoseze pplz yoz" while im sure imayi> happen to some, the legitamite users can probably prove they didnt hack anything...but until there is proof BAN THEM

Anyone willing to steal a game will probably have no qualms about going into walmart buying a new 360 and swapping them and returning the banned one. I think they should just ban people until they remove the mod. They don't ban entire computers that use pirated copies of windows.

In theory that would probably work however all consoles sales now they scan out the serial number and the retailer can call a 1800 number to find out where it was bought and on what day.

Kind of surprised it took this long, but I'm glad to see it finally happening! :D

Actually I like how it took this long. It just let all the people who changed their firmware buildup thinking nothing is going to happen since its been like a year now. Then they all get hit with no warning.

I find this to be very funny

That's true. It did lull them into a nice false sense of security. I can't even remember how many times I saw people talking about how it would be impossible for Microsoft to detect the hack, so they were safe. Whoops!

I think that banning consoles from live was too drastic, why instead of banning a console from live they just make something that detect backups and wont let you to play that backup on live...if you want to play on live you should have an ORIGINAL COPY ON THE DISC TRAY....thats how computer games work...if you want to play online you need an original cd key to play online...so that leads you that if you want to play a game go and buy it....Microsoft still can do that.....they can unban old people and make an update to detect backups and wont let those back ups to play online.....that will still give microsoft the oportunity to gain more money from live and fight piracy in some way.

any one agree?

I think that would be perfect... I just got banned today and I really wanted to play NBA 2k7 with my friends and I was thinking of buying it but now I can't because even if I do buy it I still can't play it online.... :argh:

Laz, it's easy. Take the money you saved by pirating for the last few months and get it. You're obviously still downloading games, as you were playing NBA 2k7.

To everyone else that hasn't been banned:

Don't cry if in the next few days you get banned :p. I find it funny how a lot of the people with modded consoles are coming out of the covers now.

To anyone who is going to return their consoles to get a new one for free and **** over someone else. I hope your gamertag eventually gets banned.

The reason why they completely ban your account is because when some hacker out there finds a way to circumvent this banning (again), all the people that weren't banned will start downloading again. They ban you so you either:

A. Learn your lesson and buy another console where you don't pirate.

B. Don't buy another console and go to PS3 where piracy is going to be like the PSP soon.

or C. Keep your banned console and play single player pirated games.

I'll never own an Xbox 360, so this doesn't affect me at all, but I'm getting a nice laugh reading about all the people complaining about others with modded systems saving a ton of money over them. Do you people not realize that you could do the same? You're paying extra for that warm and fuzzy feeling that you're legit and have supported the software developers. Console game prices are getting outrageous these days, there's a reason people are modding their systems. If you're rich and you want to spend a couple thousand dollars on a huge game library that only includes a couple games that are (maybe) actually worth playing more power to you, but I'd rather spend my cash on PC upgrades.

Oh, the typical self-righteous, everyone-owes-me view of a pirate. :D

I'm not condoning piracy, I just think it's a personal choice with some risk involved for a potentially huge savings. If I did have a 360 I probably would mod it, because there aren't any games for it that I would consider worth buying that I can't also get for the PC now or in the near future (exception: Guitar Hero II has ONE downloadable track that I really, really want, but I already have the PS2 version and I'm not going to buy a new console and the same game again just so I can play one song), in which case I'd buy the PC version. The 360, like it's predecessor, is a really crappy PC (though at least now there is HD support). I have a real PC, thanks. Everybody needs to quit whining about how pirates save so much money over them and either mod their own system or take pride in the fact that they're supporting the software developers. Modded 360s are getting banned, which is the point of this topic, so quit slamming the pirates, they're getting their punishment. On the flipside, the pirates need to quit whining that they've been banned. You knew the risks.

Fair play, that's your choice, but as an owner of a decent PC and all the consoles, I'd rather spend my money on console games - in my opinion the PC games scene has been stagnant recently. Consoles and PCs have different games available, they compliment each other so I don't think it's right to slate them by saying things such as "I have a real PC".

I don't see why people are going nuts about this. Those people with hacked firmware had their fun and I'm sure it was good while it lasted. Now it's over you have to just get on with it - it was always a gamble. Live with it, or just buy another console - it's pretty easy to pick up a cheap Core these days anyway :)

I just find it absolutely shocking that people are actually trying to slam MS for this.

Edited post as I veered off-topic a bit and I don't want to start some pointless PC vs console debate.

Shame to hear laz... but I told you last night they we're coming for you... heh

/sarcasm

Anyways, Spartin X made a comment about how stealing from MS is bad and how he has to eat cardboard for dinner due to the lack of money MS is paying him. Of course, all of this is due to piracy.

/end of sarcasm

But seriously, the amount of people who modded their 360's to pirate games is a mere pinch on the butt of Bill Gates.

MILLIONS of people still go to walmart or whatever and buy games. I even bought a few games, even though I had a modded 360.

    • Instagram just got "a long-requested feature" by Hamid Ganji Instagram has finally added a new feature that has been "long-requested" and it allows users to write an individual caption for each image or video in a carousel. The feature will start rolling out this week, and it’ll be available to all users. Previously, Instagram only allowed a single caption for all regular posts and carousels. This made it harder for content creators to describe every scene in a carousel and often forced them to write longer captions. However, with this new feature, every slide in a carousel can have its own caption, which can be viewed by swiping left or right. To use the feature, when writing a caption for your post, select “Multiple captions” from the dropdown menu in the caption area. You can then write unique captions for each slide. By swiping through the carousel and selecting individual slides, a dedicated space for writing captions will appear. Instagram says the feature will help audiences get the right context at the right moment. The ability to assign a unique caption to each slide in a carousel could be particularly useful for content creators and brands on the platform. Instagram says the feature will begin rolling out this week. The new feature appears to have been well received by Instagram users, many of whom have been requesting it for a long time. However, users are now asking for additional features, such as the ability to add new slides to a carousel after it has been published. Instagram has been introducing several useful features lately, but users who want access to additional tools and perks can subscribe to the platform’s Instagram Plus offering. Priced at $3.99 per month, Instagram Plus includes exclusive features such as 48-hour Stories, more detailed post analytics, and the ability to tailor posts or Stories to specific audiences. The subscription includes 11 new features in total.
