Microsoft Starts Banning 360s on LIVE - MS Confirms

For the rest of those that don't cheat and so on, but have a modded console...it's to bad Microsoft can't help somehow.

How would you expect them to help? If you're not using the mod to cheat, then you're using it to pirate games. Why would they want to help you, when all you're doing is ripping them off?

So true.

It's interesting seeing how very obvious it is who "mods" or "cheats" or "pirates" and those who don't based on their responses. Almost like the more they argue the less guilty they hope to feel.

Haha. I ran out of good ideas to finish my thought. I can't see a legitimate reason to mod really, but maybe there is some interesting reason that would be acceptable. I know...only if you used it to save yourself a week of pulling your hair out to find #500 in Crackdown, just to realize you've jumped passed it 100x.

One thing that has me wondering is:

Does Microsoft really think that Live is that important to some people that the threat of getting banned from it will make people go back?

Sooner or later, like with the Xbox, some application like XboxConnect will come out, and getting banned from Live will mean squat.

Well, I can say it's important enough for me to actually keep my 360 legit. After having a couple years of a modded Xbox and not being able to go on Live, I missed out on so much. When I got my 360 last June I did so with the intent of never, ever modding it. Live is too integral in the 360 experience, for me anyway.

You know you could of had a switch to turn your mod on/off on xbox 1.

I did that for my modded xbox 1, worked great. I also had a wicked team xecuter firmware that would disable the network adapted when the mod was on. Therefore it was impossible to get banned/detected due to stupidity.

Live was fun on my modded xbox 1.

If you didn't mod your console and got banned, couldn't you just send it in to prove to them it's legit? Would probably even get some free stuff out of the deal for the false accusation. At least I know I would sure as hell demand free stuff.

some people are... how do i say... "not so smart".

if you just call microsoft.. SHIP it back to them, they will check if it's been opened (from the sticker) or modded in anyway.. and if NOT, they will refund your shipping costs, and give you a brand new console.. problem solved! but you don't see people saying that do you? because there all guilty (the people bashing microsoft for this).. and they know they have been caught.

it is a bit of a nuisance... i was considering modding my 360 after oblivion scratched too badly to play so i could geniunely backup my games. i suppose MS want us to buy another copy when we scratch the discs

Email, or phone Microsoft (or the game publisher) with proof of purchase and they'll send you a new disk (you have to send them the broken one first, obviously). Two of my disks have been scratched to an unplayable level and they replaced them both.

Everything you said can be done to a modded system to look like it was never opened... They sell those security stickers on ebay, put back the original firmware on the DVD, and you can open the box with no marks at all with special tools.

Not yet, anyhow... :shifty:

It would be nice to see them crack down on the pirated XP and Vista installs like they seem to do here.

Thats bull****, the day microsoft can disable my computer perminantly from a pirated copy of their software is the day i move out of america.

They should have no right to be able to ban anyones hardware because of software piracy. If microsoft them selfs sold the computer as a microsoft product then yes i can see them being able to disable them but pc's are diverse, so that will NEVER happen.

It's just a cat and mouse game. The hackers will come up with something new, and Microsoft will update their detection methods. The current hacks were supposed to be undetectable, just remember that. If you value Xbox Live, modding your 360 is a very stupid thing to do.

True, but how often does Microsoft actually release updates like the spring update anyways. Also I don't value Xbox Live.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a huge update like the spring update. It can be a small patch that they send out whenever they want to.

Also I don't value Xbox Live.

Well then, you've got nothing to fear.

Well then, you've got nothing to fear.

If there was actually decent content for Canadians on the Market Place then maybe Live and the MP would hold some value for me, but there's almost next to nothing. As for playing online, I don't for the most part on consoles. FPS games are basically the only games I play online and playing those on a PC is far better than on a console. The only endearing feature that I like on Live is the gamercard and that's about all, for me anyways.

Well im back on another console :)

whats the plan with the banned ones will ms allow us to update them? can only assume they will since having all these locked on a old kernel would be a big problem once another exploit like king kongs is found?

Halo3 Time :D

you can always update using ISO from xbox.com ;)

anyway I'm banned now :woot: but I don't give a sh... I never used live anyway, just to upload my stats.. that's it.. I'm not gonna miss it and do anything about it... as long as I can play my backups they can do whatever they want ;)

hmm

I was actually thinking of modding my xbox360, i had in fact even opened my console and was about to mod but the sata chipset is not compatible with my ms28 drive and i had no luck of finding that VIA PCI Sata Controller, so i just put back everything together without modding it. I kinda felt bad because my warranty got voided [4 months warranty was left]

but now i am kinda happy. Honestly xbox live has still not launched in India so i have never really played online although i have downloaded demos and videos using a .us account but thats about it. Once Xbox Live launches over here, i am gonna see if its any good else i will get my 360 modded.

The point is that Microsoft is continuously adding new features in xbox 360 like the upcoming iptv thingy which is scheduled to be released during the holiday time so i just think that people whose console got banned will be missing these new things.

    • RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought are free on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe PC gamers can now jump in and grab two more games to keep this week, as the Epic Games Store's ever-present giveaway promotion has just gone through another refresh. Replacing last week's Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat offers, the store has brought in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought to keep. From the duo, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition is an enhanced version of the classic title that was originally released in 2004. It comes with enhancements such as widescreen and 1080p resolution support, as well as increased compatibility with modern PC hardware. It also comes bundled with all the extra content from the Soaked! and Wild! expansion packs. "Control park finances, shops, services and staff to succeed in dozens of scenarios," reads the description. "Become a true tycoon and embark on your promising new career, or create your ideal park without money woes in sandbox mode. Satisfy your guests’ needs and keep your park running smoothly to succeed." If management is not your style, Voidwrought lands as a 2D action-platformer featuring hand-drawn cosmic horrors. The title touts tight platforming and close‑quarters combat, all brought together with a strong emphasis on mobility. "Descend below the star-scorched surface and explore the multidimensional depths below," says the studio Powersnake about the game. "Witness the corrupted revelry of the Court, lose yourself in the icy tunnels of the Old Waters, and discover the grim fate of the Abandoned Expedition." The RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought giveaways are set to run until June 25 on the Epic Games Store, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, new freebies will take their place on the same day as always. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.
