Actress Billie Piper is to return to Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.

She will star in three episodes of the sci-fi drama, reprising her role as the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler.

Rose's return will mean the Doctor has three assistants in next year's series - Donna, played by Catherine Tate, and Freema Agyeman as Martha.

The new series begins in March and will run for 13 episodes. There will be three special editions in 2009 before the show takes a break until 2010.

Piper left Doctor Who last year, when she was transported into a parallel universe.

Awards

Her character had proven a hit and the star won a number of awards for her performances. She was named most popular actress at the National Television Awards in 2005 and 2006.

A separate show based on Rose had been planned by writer and series producer Russell T Davies, but was scrapped when Davies decided the programme was "a spin-off too far".

Filming is currently under way in Cardiff for the new series of Doctor Who, which sees the Doctor meeting an old group of enemies - the Sontarans - 35 years after first encountering them.

Before that, the programme will return to television screens at Christmas with a special episode set on the Titanic, which will co-star singer and actress Kylie Minogue.

Yay so Billie is coming back for those rumored 3 episodes woohoo!

Hopefully they will leave it open for her to return more often then, unlike the last time where they left her "unable" to come back - yeah we knew that wouldn't last long.

I really hope she gets to hear the Doctor say he loves her this time, and maybe share a snog or two? :(

I hope this doesn't become a case of "An Assistant Too Far" crossing over 2 assistants is bearable but 3 assistants and let the super bitching flow!

Ever watched "The Five Doctors" back in the early 80s? Yeah, now that was nuts. Heh. I don't think 3 assistants is overly excessive, especially since two of them aren't all that popular compared to Billie.

Tom Cruise is set to star in a special episode of hit British TV show 'Doctor Who'.

The 'Lions for Lambs' actor is among a host of top US stars, including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Madonna, who the BBC are hoping to get on board for three blockbuster instalments of the British sci-fi series to be filmed next year.

An insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "BBC producers know they can't pay these stars what they are used to, but what they can offer is an exciting role in a real cutting-edge show. And the big stars love that kind of kudos."

'Doctor Who' already has a track record of attracting top stars for cameos.

This year's Christmas special, 'Voyage of the Damned', will see Kylie Minogue play a waitress at the 1912 launch party for the famously doomed ocean liner the Titanic, which sank after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage.

The three 'Doctor Who' specials will be shot in 2008, but will not hit screens until 2009.

The three episodes are rumoured to be the final time actor David Tennant will play the time-travelling Doctor.

It is also believed 25-year-old actress Billie Piper - who quit the show in 2006 to pursue other projects - will return to play his sexy sidekick Rose Tyler.

Tom Cruise :|

Ugh, this is a recipe for disaster. I think the next series is RTD last season, as much as some of his storys are hammy, surely he's not the one behind this celeb fest.

It's a british program, if you are using big names in america to sell it over seas, then thats just a big slap in the face to us.

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
