iPod Touch - the New Flagship iPod

Yeah we had a spy picture to show you but we've learned our lesson - twice. We'll just describe it and let your minds wander:Update: We are having a contest!

Name - iPod Touch... HTC be damned!

Same form factor as the iPhone with some notable exceptions:

  • Outside rim is black, not silver like the iPhone and more flush with the screen like the 5.5G iPods not rounded like iPhone
  • No ear speaker or microphone for phoning
  • Thicker - slightly

Things that are the same:

  • OSX Embedded OS
  • 480x320 screen
  • Coverflow-enabled iPod application
  • Single button home navigation

Things we wish we knew:

  • WiFi? (This is the Capper)
  • GPS?
  • NAND RAM and/or 160GB Hard Drives configs?
  • Cost? (Like it matters)

Also, just a quick note to Apple Legal. We've learned our lesson and will shy away from posting what could be considered trademarked information. 9to5Mac is an Apple enthusiest website and we are all huge Apple fans here (obviously). We are not trying to hurt the company - just inform other Apple consumers who might want more intel on upcoming products so that they may make more informed buying decisions. No one wants to spend their hard-earned money on a product that is about to get put in the dumper. We are just hyping your products and informing your consumers.

Who doesn't want that? Apple, let's just hug it out!

Peace!

It looks awesome, but since I just got a 5.5G ipod as a warranty replacement, I won't be getting this one and I'm sort of glad. I like to leave my iPod on shuffle mode and simply reach into my pocket to skip tracks I'm not in the mood to hear. With this touch screen, there's no way I'd be able to do that.

I take it that's a mockup, that's an older version of Coverflow on there :p

But looking very sexy

the thing is, people sent in those mock ups to 9to5 mac. But that does look nice. I do hope it would come with wifi and saffari. All I want is the iphone features, but with out the phone. and of course a large HD- 100GB or more

That's one of the down fall to the iPhone. I'd like to have that feature too, but oh well, the iPhone rocks besides that.

I don't think it will be called iPod Touch, though, I think it will just use the iPod name.

why not? Its an ipod with a TOUCH screen. hence,. ipod Touch. We call the ipod nano a nano. We call the ipod shuffle the shuffle, this one may be touch :p idk

we could have 1 physical button on the side, to control tracks if pressed once. press and hold down and you can fast forward. that woulsn't be to bad.

As with colors, black+white is fine with me, but hopefully other colors and/or face plates may come..

But that's because the iPod nano and shuffle are two different products. The rumors about a touch screen regard to full-sized iPod. Consider it will be the 6G, it should just continue to use the iPod name. The fewer models Apple has, the better.

its still gonna be the ipod. just with an extra name to it.

Exactly. It's going to be the 6G iPod, so it should continue to use the iPod name. It won't be a good idea for Apple to have more than three models. The iPod is the full featured unit, the iPod nano is the smaller unit and the shuffle is for those who just want some music when jogging, working out, etc. I can't see a fourth model being practical.

who said anything bout a 4th model?

There is no thing as "ipod functionalty"

The iPhone just has a audio player; Just like many other portable and compact devices.

The iPhone refers to its audio player as "iPod". So in this case one could say the iPhone offers "iPod functionality", as it's able to function as an iPod.

hmmm why is their an ipod icon on there? hmmmm

Right, even apple stated that its "their best ipod yet" Though I dissagree. the Best ipod yet will have well over 100GB of storage and won't have phone features. (Because not everyone wants/needs a phone)

Fine. Then from now on I well say that my phone has a iPod. I refer to my phone's audio player as a iPod. My phone's audio player can do everything a iPod can and then some....

Therfore....I have iPod functionability. I am cool.

    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.
    • Kdenlive 26.04.2 by Razvan Serea Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It works on GNU/Linux, Windows and BSD. Through the MLT framework, Kdenlive integrates many plugin effects for video and sound processing or creation. Furthermore Kdenlive brings a powerful titling tool, a DVD authoring (menus) solution, and can then be used as a complete studio for video creation. Kdenlive supports all of the formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG, and Flash Video, among others), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD. Video can also be exported to DV devices, or written to a DVD with chapters and a simple menu. Video editing features: Multi-track editing with a timeline and supports an unlimited number of video and audio tracks. A built-in title editor and tools to create, move, crop and delete video clips, audio clips, text clips and image clips. Ability to add custom effects and transitions. A wide range of effects and transitions. Audio signal processing capabilities include normalization, phase and pitch shifting, limiting, volume adjustment, reverb and equalization filters as well as others. Visual effects include options for masking, blue-screen, distortions, rotations, colour tools, blurring, obscuring and others. Configurable keyboard shortcuts and interface layouts. Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. Project files are stored in XML format. An archiving feature allows exporting a project among all assets into a single folder or compressed archive. • Here's how to watch the Xbox Games Showcase today and what to expect by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June games showcase week has been a packed one, with everything from major presentations like Sony and Summer Game Fest to indie-focused reveals coming in almost every day. Now, it's almost time for another big one, with Microsoft bringing its Xbox Games Showcase back later today. This is a double feature too, with a Gears of War E-Day deep dive also being attached to it. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is kicking off at 10 AM PT | 1 PM ET | 6 PM BST | 7 PM CEST later today, June 7. The event will be available to watch on the official Xbox YouTube (4K 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, Steam, Amazon Live, and other portals. Separate livestreams for American Sign Language and Audio Description will also be available. "This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates, and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share," said Microsoft about this presentation. With a new CEO behind it that is pulling off some interesting moves, Xbox may have some surprises to reveal today. New looks at first-party games like Halo Campaign Evolved from Halo studios, Fable from Playground Games, InXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution, Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward are to be expected here. We may finally get to see the new Blade from Arcane Studios in action and a new Persona game from Atlus at the showcase too. Surprise announcements may also arrive from other Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda, MachineGames, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Rare, World's Edge, or Blizzard. Considering how every new release nowadays is staying away from November and December to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI's release, any launch dates Microsoft announces will probably skip those months as well. Once the Xbox Games Showcase ends, Microsoft will immediately kick off the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. This deep dive into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition should attach gameplay footage and perhaps a release window to the highly anticipated project.
