Based on the fact that it is only available in 8GB and 16GB versions i would say that yes it is flash based. As to upgrading the memory i doubt it or it would have been mentioned at the event.

I meant manually as some people have done in the past. I can't remember where I read it but the was a blog of a guy who explained how to do this.
