iPod Touch - the New Flagship iPod

Recommended Posts

I doubt the iTunes Store will be available on the iPod touch as well. I also doubt WiFi will be included. Apple doesn't let you sync your iPhone via WiFi and they don't let you browse the iTunes Store. If Apple didn't include these on the higher up model, then there is little to no chance of them happening on the lower end model.

The iPod touch will include these things from the iPhone:

iPod.app

Calendar

Photos

Clock

Calculator

Notes

Contacts from the Phone app.

Add Games from the 5.5g iPod and you have the iPod touch.

Hahahaha... just had to bring back the comments from the oracle. Sounded so convinced.

Also, you can get everything the iPod touch does in an Archos 605 w/ 160GB for LESS. All touch screen of course, no need for stylus.

Give the guy a break.

The Archos 605 costs a lot less because it's almost as thick as my iMac is. :p And let's be honest, its looks don't come anywhere near the slick design of any of the iPods.

Yes, went to apple.com this morning and the first thing I said "Safari?! Oh ****..." Me and Sundayx are both in the same boat at the moment :p

Wow, I never thought about a remote! :D

I think when the touch has at LEAST 30GB, then i'll get one :)

The 2G touch will likely have 32 GB of flash memory. Note it won't hit exactly 30 GB. After 32 GB, you can expect the 3G touch (or something similar) to sport 64 GB of flash memory, as it becomes more affordable.

Is it possible to hook up the iPod touch to any normal wireless DSL modem and browse the internet on it?

From what they say, it should as long as the wireless transmission is 802.11B or G but as most things that tout this, i'm sure it will unofficially allow A/B/G since A is old and rarer but still have it sometimes in home routers.

does anyone with iphone as of current know if they are scratch proned quite easily like before-last gen ipod nanos were and they released that little sock for them which started shipping with them, will we need similar with ipod touch or do they seem to hold in there alright ?

Whoa... just checked this out.. definitely getting one now.. so damn cheap!

?200/$419 (AU) for an 8 GB MP3 player is cheap? I don't care how cool touch screen is, that is a rip off.

QFT. I know the new creative zen lacks the touch screen, wifi and only has a 2.5" screen, but as a music player, the zen wins hands down (?190 for a 16GB player, or ?200 for an 8GB player lol). And honestly, you have to ask yourself, are you gonna use the iPod touch's features. A lot of people will not, yet still waste the money on it cos its the new iPod.

I am not going to commit to buying until I can hold one in my hand.

I think it has a lot of potential as a PDA and an internet surfing device. Since it runs the same binaries as the iPhone, it is ripe for hacking. I also can't wait to be able to VNC into my Windows Box.

For me, I'm willing to pay for the 8GB iPod touch. To me, because its flash memory, I don't have to worry about it dying in the next year or two (the HD). Also, I don't put ALL of my music on the iPod. I put on what I'm listening to now, and remove what I don't. 8GB leaves a lot of room for a good variety of music.

However, I want to wait to see what people say once they get it. First reviews I never count, because its always a hype thing. After you've used it for a bit, then I'll see.

For ?200 you get a music player, video player, full wifi internet, and browser, youtube and games... all on a multi-touch screen that fits your pocket. Not really a rip off to be honest....:rolleyes:s:

well you would if you were to play music. or do anything on there. you have to use it, you have no other choice. the UI is a touch screen. how else will you be able top access the stuff on the ipod?

Yea.. well it does bit more than play music :/ ...to be honest. Not a rip off at all imo.

yeah, a LOT MORE!

I would love to get one, but $400 for a 16gb mp3 player is a rip off no matter how nice it looks.

It's a smidge more than just an mp3 player don't you think? I'm not saying its not expensive but you are shortchanging for your argument.

That said, I will get one but I may hold off on the purchase to see, a la iphone, if they double the capacity. I think 16GB is pretty reasonable, but just in case! After doing some research on the conversion of video for the iphone/ipod touch, I found out that 1-hour of video = approx. 500MB at the highest quality the device can reproduce. I will spare the math but I think for what you can view in a charge, play in the same charge 16GB is plenty. If you like to take your whole music collection then defintely look eslewhere, for an all-in-one device its expensive but IMO not a bad deal. Definitely better than the deal those early adopters got.

Enough room for: a few movies or shows, the "if i was stranded on an island" music plus a few more tunes and wi-fi (yes the island is in the middle of the sea but someone has broadband-n nearby!) Now if I could just find the plug on this palm tree I could charge it!

Hi guys

I'm probably gonna buy iPod Touch when it's out, and I would like to ask a few questions for iPhone users:

- Is there any way to sync Calendar.app and Google Calendar? It would be a killer app for me

- What Contact.app is look like? Can you create contacts from the iPhone?

- Screen is scratch resistant as I've seen from some videos on YouTube, but is it really clean & perfect like new after 2 month of intensive usage?

Thanks in advance

Not really...I mean every feature of the ipod, except for wifi, is basically available by other manufactures at much lower prices.

Even within the ipod lineup itself the pricing makes no sense. you have to pay $50 more for the 16gb touch and what you get is 1/10 the storage space of the 160gb and only the addition of wifi and a 1 inch bigger screen. Everything else about the classic is better...battery life, insane amount of storage, the ability to play games.

The touch screen, which seems cool, does nothing but make the ipod even harder to use in most cases.

For ?200 you get a music player, video player, full wifi internet, and browser, youtube and games... all on a multi-touch screen that fits your pocket. Not really a rip off to be honest....:

So ?200 for an 8 GB music player, video player, Wi-Fi Internet + browser and games and touch screen.

Or...

?160 for a 80 GB music player (iPod classic), video player and games. So basically, you're paying more for a lot less memory and web capabilities...

Yes, and no matter what arguments people use, no matter which comparisons are made, and against all other possible reasoning to some, the iPod Touch will sell by the truck load and a lot of customers will be very, very happy that they bought one.

I mean like the wifi store, the browser, the youtube app etc. Hell, I'd love to see the percentage of iPod video owners who actually watch videos on it (and I don't mean just the first time when you get it just to see what its like).

    • Ninja Theory's new Hellblade game is action-focused and set in Purgatory by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Ninja Thery has been building its award-winning Hellblade series since 2017, delivering Senua's Sacrifice and Senua's Saga since then. Today at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, the studio had a brand-new installment announcement featuring Senua again, but this time, she is in a version of purgatory, and the focus is on the action. Simply named Senua, this new entry is described as a "full-on action-adventure" experience, delivering an expanded focus on combat, puzzle-solving, and freedom of exploration. The developer says that it is keeping the same high production values and storytelling features of the previous games while giving what players have been asking for in the gameplay department. The entirety of Ninja Theory is now working on Senua, giving the project much more manpower than ever before, while also letting the team draw on its action roots from Devil May Cry and prior titles. However, the studio also confirmed that its previously announced Project Mara horror experience is no longer in development. Alongside snappier traversal moves, Senua will be able to take stealth and direct combat routes. She has access to her own sword, plus any enemy weapons as well, with dual wielding also being an option for most dropped melee swords, axes, and other weapons. Outside of melee combat, Senua will be able to use special abilities that let her alter the reality around her. The world is said to be about twice the size of Hellblade 2. While this won't be an open-world experience, the linear story will let players explore their surroundings further than before. The story of Senua will be set after the events of previous Hellblade titles, with our protagonist being stuck in her own version of Purgatory. The series' well-explored psychosis themes will return as well. "She’s trapped between life and death on a quest to reach the afterlife and be reunited with the ones that she’s loved and lost," adds the studio. "Her belief is that by healing the wounds of her life, she can find the peace that is the key that unlocks the gate to the afterlife." Senua is releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2027.
    • Windows has had it, it's called camera frame server. I recall when it was first introduced in an early Windows 10 release it caused issues and there was a registry entry to disable it. Seems like they disabled it by default at some point. Windows 11 brought that toggle to the settings app (not just registry) a while ago.
    • You didn't like Mafia The Definite Edition? As a fan of the first when it came out, I liked that remake.
