Kotaku is stealing my Pics

Recommended Posts

I really respect Kotaku but today when i did a google search, i got linked to a kotaku page where i found that they have used a particular pic that i had taken from the Xbox360 India launch. To confirm my doubt, i cross checked it with my own blog where these pics were listed and it came true.

I further checked their website and they had stolen another pic. What makes me angry is that they didn't take my permission or referred or link my blog in any way beforing using these pics.

I remember both Gamerscoreblog and MajorNelson's website had linked to my blog as they were referring to it and were borrowing information since i had covered this event.

Here are the links :

The Copied Pic:

Are they even allowed to do this ? should i ask them for some kind of compensation or should i do something else ?

If you just want credit for the photos and a link to your site, send them a nice email notifying them that those pics are copyrighted and you are the copyright holder and if they want to continue using them, you want to be credited for it.

Otherwise, send them a cease and desist notice.

Good luck chasing them down.

They normally seem quite hot on integrity and all that sort of stuff so i'll personally be very dissappointed if they try and brush you off.

If they ignore you, go to rival sites and report that they're stealing your images! I'm sure that'll get them noticed!

Actually, that is not a bad idea at all. Threaten to go to rivals sites with the same comparisons you have just showed us.

yup i have a feeling they will ignore my email tbh :/

If that happens, then go to the rivals site.

Truth is you may still not get anything out of it, but perhaps someone exposing them on a grander scale will stop them from ripping people off.

    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
