Has anybody got the Play To function to work with an Xbox360 like in the keynote? I'm sharing my music with Homegroup, Windows can see my Xbox as a media device and my Xbox can access and play my music, but the Play To menu in WMP says No Media Devices Found.

Any ideas?

I managed to sort this. I needed to setup the Xbox Extender and now it works, and it's brilliant!

you cant. the only way is to hover over the icon and the play/pause buttons should appear.

ah! thanks .. :) Although would have still preferred the old toolbar.

If only there was an iPod plugin for wmp12 that worked with an iPod Touch modified so that it doesn't check the database hash.

dopisp and wmpod haven't been updated in ages, and despite mine tweaked to not care about the new database hash, they won't sync with it. The foobar and winamp plugins will, and so I've been using those...But I don't want to.

Man WMP12 is such a mess right now. What the heck happened to the tag editor? I can't even find a way to put in album art or edit detailed tag information like in WMP11. The Taskbar popup buttons are almost useless considering even laptop keyboards have shortcuts for pausing, next, and previous now. What we need is a seekbar, maybe some way to access the current playlist directly from the popup (not sure if it's possible), and at least SHOW THE NAME OF THE FRIGGIN SONG PLAYING in the preview title bar!

I agree with this. I mentioned it to Brandon Live in another Windows 7 thread a while ago, and other people also agreed. He said he'd pass the feedback onto the relevant teams (WMP and Explorer), but said the APIs for the thumbnails only support buttons rather than seekbars etc.

I'm really missing the option to skip songs and see what's playing without opening WMP. If they don't add it back I'm sure somebody can write a plugin or something.

well you can still skip songs... the pop up has pause and skip buttons. All they need to do is show the noe wplaying in the thumbnail.

Meh.

That's great, WMP just destroyed gapless info from the 3 files I've played with it, isn't there an option so it does NOT modify any file when playing it?

(I've already uncheked the "retrieve track info from internet" thing)

Gapless never touches files, it's just how the files are played back.

For what file type? The most common mistake is that people have ... a not-legitimate codec that's single-instance and stomps on the system MP3 codec that is not single-instance. Thus the preroll used for gapless (gap of 0 between clips - if the clips start / end with silence, that's a clip issue) wouldn't be supported if that was on the system.

Duh. "DivX ;-)" aka DivX 3.11 was not made by DivX and is Microsoft MPEG 4vX with strings edited. I never said it was MPEG4 "compliant". If you want to try to start making sense of the DivX fiasco, goooooooood luck. <3

If by the DivX fiasco you mean the failed Circuit City format, that had nothing at all to do with the current DivX company or the hacked DivX 3.11 codec. If I misunderstood nevermind though. :)

Naw, I'm specifically referring to the nightmarish "~MPEG4-in-AVI" ""DivX"" fiasco that's imploded and haunted multimedia for the past ten years. I know this area far too well, sadly.

IIRC, Gej bought the DivX trademark, which is why I used DivX. Plus it helps you realize I'm referring to the DivX corporation as opposed to the other more common uses for the term. The whole thing is a fustercluck, and I understand why people get confused about it. Let's be done with this aspect of the conversation. I guarantee I'm not confused about it, and it's not realllly topical w.r.t. WMP12. :)

      Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer.       Microsoft will finally let you sign in to Edge with a Google account by Usama Jawad As things currently stand, Microsoft Edge only allows you to sign in to the browser with a Microsoft Account (MSA). This allows you to sync your browser settings and other data across other devices, as long as you sign in with the same account. However, Microsoft is now modifying this mechanism in a way that will likely please many users. In an update to its Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft has indicated that it will soon let users sign into Edge using a Google account from the profile menu and the Edge sign-in screen. This will be in addition to the MSA login option, and it opens up new doors for people who prefer using Edge, but cannot be bothered to configure a Microsoft account. This brings several advantages such as the ability to sync your data across devices using just a Google account. It may even facilitate flexible single sign-on (SSO) experiences where you can quickly login to websites and services through a single Google account that is presented as the preferred sign-in option. Up until now, Microsoft allowed customers to indirectly use a Google account, by configuring a Google account as a Microsoft account, or by setting up a one-way sync option between Edge and Chrome. This is a rather interesting development, especially considering that Google Chrome still limits you to a Google account sign-in, but it will be interesting to see if the company reciprocates Microsoft's gesture in the future. This is not the only recent instance in which Microsoft has extended a handshake to Google via Edge. In April 2026, it began tracking the development of a work search banner for Google Search queries, just like the one present in Edge. However, if we go back almost seven years, to January 2020, Microsoft had emphasized that it had no plans to "integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default", in response to people requesting Google sign-in services on Edge.
