What was your biggest problem with Windows ME?

Recommended Posts

My mother-in-law still uses ME on her HP. It still does everything she needs it for and it actually has never crashed. I think she was the only user that had a good experience with it.

Look around this thread, there are several who actually had good experiences with ME.

  • 1 month later...

Never had ME to begin with. Had 98 SE from 2000 to 2004, then I got a Dell Dim 8400 with XP Home in July 2004.

Had XP Home for like 8 months or so, then I got a copy of XP Pro in April 2005 and installed it via the long way.

But if I had upgraded to ME from 98 SE, imagine the horror. No thanks, lol.

Windows ME for me i had installed on a Pentium 233mhz MMX with 256meg of PC100 ram oh it was blazing fast it really was things went great windows ME was great .

Then the Horror on and i mean on stoke of midnight 4 months later my Me install started to BSOD on me and applications would not work anymore and it was slowing down and this was after i did regular miantance to the system it started to eat around 240meg of my 256 ram it was horrible so it seems Microsoft at that time seem to havea Timer of death problem installed so exactly 4 month later from install it start acting up

Windows Millennium was fine until the BSOD and goodbye IE.

Drivers were hard-to-come-by.

When XP came along, you had to have one serious issue with something for a BSOD.

I had 2 with XP in 7 years.

I have had 2 with Vista in 6 months.

I had hundreds even with all my drivers and software compatible with WindowsME.

I sold my retail full version on ebay about 3 years ago, good riddance, worst OPS ever.

It existed.

I bought the full version for $189, installed it and went back to 98SE two days later. All that crap did was crash. It would crash when it was doing nothing but sitting at the desktop. It would crash when the start button was clicked. It would crash just by moving the mouse.

My In-Laws are still running ME on a Pentium 2 300Mhz IBM with never any issues. They are on DSL, with a DVD drive, which they use alot, and even a USB printer that all function fine. I have suggested upgrading but they are happy and do not want to.

Because there are still some programs that only work in those old OSes.

that's just an excuse.

introduce them to linux xubuntu.

I had no problems with Windows Me. I disabled System Restore and happily used it as well as I used Windows 98, until Windows 2000 had proper gaming support. Then I made the switch. People go on and on about how bad Windows Me was, but I personally believe they had **** hardware and didn't have hardware properly tuned for ACPI.

    • Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
