Was a good race but when was it that at this track... so many racers failed to finish?

Last time Melbourne was that bad was probably Mark Webber's debut race, when he got 5th in a Minardi. Only 8 finished. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Australian_Grand_Prix

Does anyone know why Kovaleinen got taken over so easily by Alonso with 2 laps to go? He was doing an awesome job of fighting him off but on the straight away Alonso just passed him like it was nothing. Did Heiki have engine probs?

he hit the pit lane speed limiter taking one of the tear-strips off so made his car drop towards 50mph till he undid it

nice to see that these days the only mercedes stopping on track is the safety-car

sad for massa he has so much less luck than his teammate.

The race was good, and the fact that Lewis was pretty much flawless was great, you could tell that when the camera only ever focused on him when the safety car was out. Glad to see Alonso back where he belongs, and I don't mean with Renault, I mean behind everyone else!

Shame about Kovalainen, really wanted him to get second, and I think he deserved it, was putting some incredible laps in, and out pacing some of the seasoned drivers. Those safety cars really lost it for him.

He had pressed the pit-lane speed limiter, but he was apparently trying to wipe some oil of his visor and he accidentally hit it.

After what I saw in Australia I think this season is going to be ace. The removal of traction control and the other driver aids really showed itself. It separated the skilled drivers from those with a better car. Hamilton did well, and deserved to win, shame about Kovalainen though, he deserved to finish higher. The same goes for Bourdais too really.

Can't wait for Malaysia! :D

My bad.... So does Indianapolis in 05 hold the record? Weren't there 6 finishers there? Actually 6 starters... how many finished that race

The record would be Monaco 1996, where only 3 cars crossed the finish line.

Thursday March 20, 1500 hours local time (0700 GMT):

David Coulthard (Red Bull), Robert Kubica (BMW Sauber), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Kazuki Nakajima (Williams), Sebastian Vettel (Toro Rosso).

Thats the Press Conference for tomorrow. I expect **** to hit the fan.

oh yes ... bad that dc doesn't speak italian anyone remember

Formula One to return to BBC TV

The BBC has secured the television rights to show Formula One in the UK from the 2009 season. The five-year deal for an undisclosed fee marks F1's return to BBC screens 12 years after it switched to ITV.

The contract covers all platforms and will see F1 broadcast on the BBC Sport website, as well as on TV and radio.

Not that ITV's coverage is bad, but I'd forgotten how annoying the adverts were until watching the Australian GP on the weekend. It'll be great to watch it without a single break, plus hopefully they will use the old school theme tune too.

Yeah, the adverts seemed too much, I know they were only showing one/two each time, but they were much more frequent. What does annoy me, is when an advert kicks in and something happens on track....you only get to see the replay. And the replay often covers something else up.

They should use picture in picture for the replays.

Yay! :D Hopefully the BBC can use Martin Brundle. Apart from Murray Walker, probably the best F1 commentator.

Excellent news :D

...and yeah I hope they use the old theme tune, that was synamous with F1 for me.

In case your interested and don't know/have it already, the tune the BBC used is "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac.

    • While I miss Outlook for a couple of small things, I use Thunderbird now because I don't like how MS wants to force you to change things.
    • Chrome has history of being the browser everyone uses because Internet Explorer sucks, not realizing that Edge changed that, but people got into the habit of using Chrome. I use Brave and I've never been happier with a browser. It does what it is meant to do and gets out of the way.

    • Microsoft launches Godot Sample to streamline Xbox PC game development on the engine by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft today announced a new endeavor that aims to make it simpler for Godot developers to get their products into the Xbox PC ecosystem. Dubbed the "XBOX Godot Sample," this is a new public reference for developers using the open-source engine. This is set to serve as an example of how Microsoft GDK, Xbox Services, and PlayFab can be integrated into their projects. The sample is available now on GitHub as a working example. This covers key features in gaming projects that developers may need to release their projects on Xbox PC, with everything from matchmaking and game sign-in to gamepad compatibility with Godot being covered. This release is being called the first step in giving Godot developers the tools to bring their games over to Xbox PC, with more changes to come based on feedback and issue reports. However, the company was clear that this is not related to bringing Godot projects to Xbox consoles. The engine's open development model stops it from accessing console SDKs due to the requirement of NDAs and legal contracts. Here's how it explained this Godot sample project's focus: This is a source-only sample, not a product. It's MIT-licensed at the wrapper layer; the GDK and PlayFab dependencies still require their own installs and license acceptance, consistent with our other XBOX samples. There is no set update cadence for support or maintenance. We’ll watch the repo, monitor issues, and iterate where it makes sense, but this isn't a commercial release. That said, we’re excited to hear your feedback and see any community PRs, as we evolve this together. This is the first step in bringing Godot for XBOX on PC. We plan to evolve it over time based on what the community tells us is most valuable. This sample is built specifically for XBOX on PC. It doesn’t include support for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One. If you’re already building for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One, please talk with your XBOX representative. If not, you can get started by signing up here. Game developers can find the XBOX Godot Sample by heading to GitHub over here. Documentation on how to get started with Godot for building an Xbox PC project can be seen here.
