Actually, I just saw a film today that talks about this. It's called "The Esoteric Agenda", located here:

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-1131942400352901009

But really, I don't see a real reason to predict anything spectacular to happen on that particular day.

Jesus will return, but won't find it because of the Polar shift, as the Earth will change it's orbit, it will then pass planet x and mess with him even more.

The solar sun spots will heat up earth, causing volcanos, meanwhile a black hole eats jesus just after he's been hit by an asteroid.

Nothings going to happen.

Just a period in their calendar ends, the Mayans had dates long past the 12th baktun.

Exactly...It is the end of their current "age". Much like how the age of pisces will end and usher in the age of aquarius...

That said, I think that date will see a great change in the way people think and act, for better or for worse...we can only speculate...

December 21, 2012:

1. Weak Xmas sales for Wal-Mart

2. K-Mart near bankruptcy due to the widespread USA economic depression

3. Obama still in shock from losing re-election in November

4. World-wide sightings of strange creatures

5. Queen Elizabeth gone from the throne

6. Humans now conditioned for the official announcement of ET's :alien:

maybe some ancient computer that was somehow using the dating system of the Mayans would crash that day, and it is controlling things which we cant control , maybe it can create earthquakes or thunderstorms or open up a portal or something, and we dont even know it exists until then

I had the end of the world down as 26th Nov 2007, that didn't happen!!! Let's hope (or not) they get it right this time!

It's all too easy to complain that they got it wrong, yet impossible to acknowledge if they get it right (because we won't be here to know it happened). Therefore from an anthropic perspective, the only outcome that can ever possibly happen is they always get it wrong. You could also say that, from your anthropic perspective, you will experience living forever.

Hey everyone,

I dont know how many of you have read the book? 2012? It's half decent.

I think that by apocalypse it's not meant that Bruce Willis is going to come and save the Earth or anything like that. It's an allusion to a troublesome time which might last for a seemingly forever period of time. That's my personal belief.

So I would have to go with thinking that probably nothing physical will happen, rather someting politically controversial or highly sensitive will be unearthed, either leading to another World War, or another Cold War, in which living conditions on Earth might well become "just bearable".

"I do not know what World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein

We have the potential to destroy ourselves, and I think that time could be coming soon. The 20th century has been remembered as the bloodiest so far, yet it's evident that as we evolve, things only get bloodier. Is that not enough to say that the 21st could be worse than the 20th?

Interesting argument, no doubt.

Medking

I hate to drop some common sense on you, but as an atheist, I would argue that absolutely nothing will happen. Why? Because we are worried about a date that happens to occur on some calendar that WE INVENTED.

That's like me making up a calendar and then going around telling everyone that on Muguwali 75th, the world will come to an end. Obviously, the Mayans weren't too bright or insightful, otherwise they would still be around....

<sits back and watches as the religious zealots and bible thumpers coordinate their canned responses of how I should take Jesus Christ as my lord and savior>

    • Xbox Insiders get Xbox 360 achievements and Gamertag character upgrades by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is continuing its fast-paced update schedule for Xbox Insiders. Today, the company announced a new slate of features it is rolling out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, which includes an expansion to the gamertag system, Xbox 360 achievements, and more. The unique Gamertag that Xbox users can choose for their profile is getting more characters. Instead of the 12-character limit, Insiders will now be able to get a Gamertag that's 15 characters long. The 12-character limit will still apply to Gamertags that are not unique or contain any non-Latin characters. Meanwhile, Microsoft is adding Xbox 360 game support to its Game Hubs. Selecting an installed Xbox 360 game on a modern Xbox console will now show achievement progress, captures, and other information. Achievement pop-ups are back for these classics too, which should be good news for achievement hunters. The next change is for Xbox players who can't wait to jump into their games when an update is required. "If a game requires an update and is available to stream through your Game Pass membership, you can start playing immediately with cloud gaming while the update downloads in the background," explains Microsoft. The final change of this Insider update is once again to the game cards. Insiders will find that all games, both released and upcoming, will now have a simple button to add to their profile's wishlist, making the process much easier from a single place. This Xbox update is rolling out today to Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. As usual, Microsoft aims to bring it to more Insiders over time before they reach all Xbox owners. Head here to find out how to join the Xbox Insider Program to get a chance to test these features and upcoming ones on both consoles and PC.
