But OS X wasn't as popular back then. X hadn't come out had it? OS X is now rock solid and has an extremely awesome UI and user experience that could easily beat Windows. If they do open it up to the PC, I think it could easily succeed compared to OS 9.

OS X didn't exist back then.

What happened was that competitors could build a system for less than an Apple computer. The money Apple made from the OS license was a lot less than what they made from computers, and they ended up losing money.

That would be logical, especially considering they didn't have a large market back then.

I think they could overcome that though with some specific changes. Such as, let's say if they were to license the product to Dell, they require Dell to give them kickbacks on the hardware. Michael Dell has already stated publicly that he'd be interested in selling OS X on his hardware. And I think Dell would do a partnership with Apple if they could sell more systems and beat HP.

I think is OSX came out for all machines, loyal Apple supporters would be seriously upset. And Apple have always been loyal to their core fanbase - I just can't see them crapping on them like that!

just something that came to my mind:

osx for non-apple hardware, like... building bridges to once unreachable landmarks like yeah, having osx on non-apple hardware.. ;)

Wouldn't that be great?

If you ask me, I don't think Apple is going to release the iPhone today... That would be a bummer....

Of course they're not going to release it today. AT&T has blocked out June 15-July 15. It will be released then. But it will, most likely, be announced today though.

Production Ramp Up?

Barrons has heard that the Foxxconn, Apple's iPhone manufacturer, has only shipped "several thousand" of the new iPhone and don't expect to ramp production up until the middle of the month. This would suggest an actual launch date closer to the reported AT&T blockout dates (June 15-July 15th).
AT&T is not allowing anyone to take vacation during that time to help with the increased support volume.

Makes plenty of sense. Otherwise no one would be there for the WWDC ("And it's out ... now. Hey, where is everybody?"). And they'll also get nice Apple Store lines for the media.
