National Hockey League 2007-08 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Recommended Posts

My picks, since we're doing that I guess hehe

1Montreal vs 8Boston = Montreal (I don't like them after this round however)

2Pittsburgh vs 7Ottawa = Pittsburgh (The Penguins have too much going for them, the Sens are spiraling downwards)

3Washington vs 6Flyers = Washington (I'm pulling for the Caps like no other team right now)

4NJ vs NY = 5New Jersey (Close one, but the Devils have Brodeur, and NY doesn't)

1Detroit vs 8Nashville = Detroit (Great team, but will they get production from Datsyuk, Zetts, and Hasek?)

2San Jose vs 7Calgary = Calgary (Very tough choice, but Calgary has a playoff team)

3Minnesota vs 6Colorado = Colorado (The Avs have more depth because of the deadline, and more experience)

4Anaheim vs 5Stars = Anaheim (Anaheim could win the cup again)

We have similar picks :p

You actually think that Nashville is going to beat Detroit? :|

Cup picks

West: Anaheim

East: Pittsburgh

Stanley Cup: Anaheim

I hope they don't though, cause I hate Anaheim.

Lets go bruins!

Yeah, go home Bruins! Oh wait, that's not what you meant, is it? ;)

I'll laugh when your Habs don't make it past the 2nd round.

I'll laugh if your team doesn't make it past the first round... oh yeah, they're not playing. :p

You expect to win the cup with a rookie goalie?

Dryden? Roy? They never won any cups in their rookie years?

Ok, my picks lol

1. Montreal Canadiens vs. 8. Boston Bruins = Montreal Canadiens

2. Pittsburgh Penguins vs. 7. Ottawa Senators = Pittsburgh Penguins (Sens have been going down hill)

3. Washington Capitals vs. 6. Philadelphia Flyers = Philadelphia Flyers

4. New Jersey Devils vs. 5. New York Rangers = New Jersey Devils

Western Conference

1. Detroit Red Wings vs. 8. Nashville Predators = Detroit Red Wings

2. San Jose Sharks vs. 7. Calgary Flames = Calgary Flames (Go Flames!)

3. Minnesota Wild vs. 6. Colorado Avalanche = Colorado Avalanche

4. Anaheim Ducks vs. 5. Dallas Stars = Dallas Stars

East = Montreal Canadiens

West = Detroit Red Wings (Though I want the Flames)

Cup = Montreal Canadiens (Once again, I want the cup here. I was to young the last time Calgary won lol)

Just as long as its not the ducks. I hate the ducks. Wish Vancouver however was in place of the Preds

you are from calgary and you like van... that doesn't make sense. and the ducks are amazing!

I like Vancouver for some reason lol They aren't my favourite team or anything (The Flames are), But they aren't too bad. I just really don't like the Preds or Ducks. I think its mostly because of the movies, but just really don't like them lol

@Joel

Fair enough we didn't make the playoffs, but we didn't have the horses to do much this year, we all know that.

I'm not saying that Price isn't a great goalie. Just looking at the past isn't going to make him a Dryden or Roy, even though he is playing in Hab country. Those aforementioned goaltenders honed their skills as rookies in a different age and it's much tougher these days.

Let's just say that Montreal wins the East (which I doubt), they will have to go against a West team that is built for the playoffs. Your team hasn't changed much from last year (you even lost Souray) and I'm not sure why everyone is expecting a cup. Teams like San Jose, Calgary, and Anaheim have teams that are built to win playoff series, teams that have toughness and grit. You go up against Anaheim and who is going to step up to the plate and play physical? They'll knock Kovalev and your talented Euros into next week. (Why do you think Vancouver is too soft, because we have too many damn Swedes!)

The West is a completely different conference, and when it comes playoff time, the West will win the Stanley cup again.

I don't hate Montreal, I quite like them actually, I just don't see them winning a cup. Rookie goalie, Koivu injured, little toughness.

Let me hear your thoughts too because, I'm just one person, and of course can be wrong ;)

Here are mine! Can't wait for tonight:

Montreal vs Boston = Montreal

Pittsburgh vs Ottawa = Pittsburgh

Washington vs Flyers = Washington

NJ vs NY = New Jersey

Detroit vs Nashville = Detroit

San Jose vs Calgary = Calgary

Minnesota vs Colorado = Minnesota

Anaheim vs Stars = Stars

^ really, the stars, i am going to enjoy throwing that back in your face...

ha, little toughness, i love it when people say that about us and koivu will be back very soon, don't worry. Boston thinks we ain't tough either and tries to hammer us, but we all know how that worked out all year, same with philly. We have the most balanced attack in the league and the most under rated defensive in the league. Komi is a machine and he is going to be 100 percent when he is back. Keep doubting my team, everyone has all year and i love it.

I agree the west is stronger, doesn't take a genious to see that, but i think montreal can take any team in the west one on one no problem, especially after they beat the crap out of eachother for a month and a half.

hah, the Bruins looked like deer caught in a whole bunch of headlights last night

Caps game starting in 45mins, go Caps!!

Anaheim lost, but there has been some really bad officiating (including the Calgary game) in these playoffs so far.

GO HABS GO :)

Tonight's game was crazy. Definately not as easy as last game. The Bruins showed up for the game alot more confident and they never let go. The Canadiens will definately need to step up in their power play. It's great that they are able to beat the bruins so easily at even strength but with the power play goals on top of that, that would be amazing !

Habs will pass the 1st round without a doubt but it will be a whole different story against the Penguins !

    • NASA: This asteroid may not kill us but it probably won't be far off either by Sayan Sen Image by Zelch Csaba via Pexels New observations by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope have eliminated the last remaining impact threat posed by asteroid 2024 YR4, ruling out the possibility that the near-Earth object could strike the Moon in December 2032. NASA said observations collected by Webb on February 18 and 26, 2026, enabled scientists to refine the asteroid's orbit enough to "rule out a chance of lunar impact on Dec. 22, 2032." Instead, asteroid 2024 YR4 is now expected to pass the Moon at a distance of about 13,200 miles (21,200 km). The agency stressed that the update "reflects improved precision in our understanding of where the asteroid is expected to be in 2032 rather than a shift in its orbital path." The announcement closes a remarkable chapter in planetary defence that began in late 2024, when the approximately 60-metre-wide asteroid briefly became the most closely watched near-Earth object in the world. Discovered on December 27, 2024, by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, 2024 YR4 initially appeared to have a small chance of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032. As astronomers gathered more observations, the impact probability briefly climbed to around 3%—the highest ever recorded for an asteroid of its size—before steadily falling as its orbit became better understood. By early 2025, international observations had ruled out any significant risk to Earth. However, astronomers were left with another possibility: a roughly 4% chance that the asteroid could instead strike the Moon. "The probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 will strike the Moon on 22 December 2032 is now approximately 4%," the European Space Agency (ESA) had said last year, noting that "there is a 96% chance that the asteroid will not impact the Moon." ESA said such an impact, while unlikely, would have presented an extraordinary scientific opportunity. "It is a very rare event for an asteroid this large to impact the Moon – and it is rarer still that we know about it in advance. The impact would likely be visible from Earth, and so scientists will be very excited by the prospect of observing and analysing it," said Richard Moissl, Head of ESA's Planetary Defence Office. "It would certainly leave a new crater on the surface. However, we wouldn't be able to accurately predict in advance how much material would be thrown into space, or whether any would reach Earth," he added. The asteroid also exposed an important blind spot in planetary defence. Because 2024 YR4 approached Earth from the direction of the Sun, it remained hidden from ground-based telescopes until after its closest approach. "We looked into how Neomir would have performed in this situation, and the simulations surprised even us," Moissl said. "Neomir would have detected asteroid 2024 YR4 about a month earlier than ground-based telescopes did. This would have given astronomers more time to study the asteroid's trajectory and allowed them to much sooner rule out any chance of Earth impact in 2032." He added, "As an infrared telescope, like Webb, Neomir would have also immediately given us a much better estimate for the asteroid's size, which is very important for assessing the significance of the hazard." The latest NASA observations underscore the value of space-based infrared telescopes in tracking faint asteroids. According to NASA, Webb made "among the faintest ever observations of an asteroid," extending the object's observational record by nearly eight months at a time when it had become too faint for other telescopes. That additional data allowed scientists to eliminate the remaining uncertainty surrounding its 2032 flyby. Although asteroid 2024 YR4 is now confirmed to pose no threat to either Earth or the Moon, scientists say its discovery remains one of the most significant real-world tests of the international planetary defence system, demonstrating how continued observations can rapidly transform an object once considered hazardous into one whose future path is known with high confidence.
