Ah thanks, seems like I forgot to change the top taskbar image. Another reason to consider an update with blue toolbar buttons :p

Fantastic style! Thank you Capric0rn, it is just soooooo great to have such a beautiful xp style in this wretched vista era!

And I agree that the orange toolbar button might be a little bit inconsistent, especially in the washed style. When you click or hover on a toolbar button, usually there is no vivid color in other parts of the windows, most of the elements are light gray-black like. I personally prefer light gray, glass style toolbar buttons like the StartGroupToolbarButton and scrollbars.

And I think the orange placebar button is just okay - "OK"and "Cancel" buttons also have orange color, it balances the whole visual effect.

Thanks! :D

The toolbar buttons will keep the same style as the placebar buttons. The StartGroupToolbarButton design is only used for the menu items, scrollbars and the listview header. I've tried making them for the toolbars but it didn't look as nice. The toolbar buttons also shouldn't have any gloss IMO. A gradient goes better with the clean toolbar background.

What do you btw mean with "usually there is no vivid color in other parts of the windows"? It all depends on the visual style how the toolbar buttons look. There's no rule to not have them colored :p I made the selected item grey on purpose so that it's less distracting.

I'm going to put an update out tomorrow with blue toolbar buttons (which means that the placebar buttons are also going to blue). It'll also contain a fix for the top taskbar.

Thanks for the comments! :D

Here's a mockup for the shellstyles:

Wow, it's so simple, but elegant in a way :p . Was the old Watercolor's shellstyle like this, because I remember there were lines or something. Correct me if I'm wrong though :p .

Scirwode

^Thanks! :D

@Scirwode: The original shellstyle for Watercolor was way different. This is what the original looks like. Mine does look a bit like the one that Binary had in his Watercolor XP. Mine will also get arrows and probably also the lines, I'll have to see how it looks with the lines. Note that the finished version will also have the icons on the side.

@russellc: Thanks :)

I'll make a mockup in a folder later today. I'm also working on a Logon screen :)

Also, I tossed in a shellstyle I like from Royal Red by TestyAmoeba, but it won't work with WE Black. I have it as C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\WE Black\Shell\Normal Color\Shellstyle.dll like any other visual style I have installed. It works with everything else. Any ideas?

Your Shell folder should have a setup the same as I've listed below. I think you have an extra space in there. Note that you need a shellstyle for each substyle.

Yea. I hate vVista shellstyles on an XP theme.

Yeah, me too :/ I hope we can have a neat shellstyle on the left - I'm thinking of one that looks similar to the Royale shellstyle.

Oh, and after having a problem where my computer wouldn't load the OS after copying the files off the CD, which I've now solved, I'm now installing Windows XP. I can't wait to finally use Emico on it :woot:

that's all good and well but how long will that take? would be a lot better if the shellstyle was released soon or even as you release a colour style

I just woke up and found that Black was released, so I'll get to work on the black shellstyles straight away.

@Capric0rn: With your permission, [after screenshots of course,] can I release the shellstyles alongside your releases? Also, Washed Black is amazing. :3

[edit] Black Shellstyles are done:

The difference between the two is actually very subtle now that I'm working with it.

I think it's nice that there are different kinds of shellstyles for this visual style to chose from. There are people that like the Vista-ish shellstyle and other people like to have it on the side. I personally don't like either shellstyles because they kinda break the theme. So expect another update for all the styles.

I personally wouldn't use the Vista-ish shellstyles for a long time but I am going to try them out.

Well, if all goes according to plan, it will be released as an 'Addon Pack' for the suite. There's a few people working on different shellstyles, so you'll be able to choose the one you want. At least that's how I'm understanding it.

I find it actually looks pretty good, if you have something like FindeXer, or the Folders Pane open. Without it though, the windows look a little naked. :/

    • See up until a few years ago y'all could get away with simply denying your war crimes, pretending it never happened. Unfortunately for you, it's the 2020s and Israel's genocide has been livestreamed in real time. You have to be dumber than a rock to think anyone still believes your propaganda. See the cat is already out of the bag. The world already knows who you are so do yourself a favor and just drop the facade. Bet it gets real tiring keep track of all the lies. Take some inspiration from Israeli ministers who boast on live TV they like massacring civilians. Every accusation is after all a confession.
    • He's just reporting what Microsoft posted. https://msmessagecenter.com/MC1381119 It just means that Windows Defender updates will no longer be bundled into the monthly Cumulative Windows security update and will now be a separate download. They'll still be on Microsoft update of course but now they can be released faster.
    • Apple announces iOS 27 with no changes to the list of supported iPhones by Taras Buria At WWDC 2026 in Cupertino, Apple announced iOS 27, the next mobile operating system for compatible iPhones. The update focuses on tweaking and improving last year's iOS 26, particularly in areas like app launch time, Liquid Glass design, and more. Additionally, Apple has reworked Apple Maps with a significantly enhanced Flyover view for a much more realistic view. Apple also promises better performance, smarter search, new Health features, new parental controls, and more. The most important part is that iOS 27 is compatible with all iPhones that can run iOS 26. That means that even the seven-year-old iPhone 11 can run iOS 27 (supposedly better than iOS 26). iOS 27 will be available this Fall, with the first developer betas expected later today.
