Call of Duty 4, Neowin Style!

Recommended Posts

Now that I think about it, I did see some people (Sethos, .KICK and I think DM) "skate" across one of the maps. Would that mean that I was lagging, or were they lagging?

But then again, it probably was just .KICK that was lagging, That was the first complaint from him, and the 2nd complaint, and the third, etc... LOL

Er what, Sethos said it first then I did :s Yeah, that would've been us lagging, most the games that were played were mostly from the US side. COD4 dosen't like games being played across the big pond much :p (I only said Lag twice also!) But anyway, it didn't spoil it much, they were fun games (Y)

I shall look forward to playing more tonight, same time again? 10PM British time (thats 5pm for East Coast USA and 11PM for Sethos (;)))

The only problem I had last night was when we played one match and the other team launched a helicopter attack and an airstrike at the same time. For some reason the game slowed right down and was going around 15/20 FPS (never usually happens for me). Didn't notice any lag even if I was on 2 bars or whatever.

I was just joking. I know you weren't complaining. :)

I will agree though. From what I've read in various articles and forums over the time span that COD4 has been out, and supposedly it got worse when they patched it (i could never find a source for that) it will tend to favor hosts from US more than any other country.

Hey,

Yes I did mention the lag in the first game we were in. We all had yellow ping, the host was American and everything was just skipping around for me. Didn't have any problems again until we got to the Ground War games, the game wasn't able to handle the 18 players, definitely not for me - The FPS was horrible, you got shot from the weirdest places because everyone was a second behind from where they really was, hard to explain but that's how it felt.

But most of the evening went really smooth and had a great laugh, specially those kids and Frenchmen

I'm not sure if I'm able to join for tonight though, I've come down with a fever and feel like crap at the moment ... So I think I'll stay in bed, have some tea and get better :/

Rest up and feel better Sethos. No need to get more sick over a video game, no doubt about that.

So what is the plan for today all? COD4 or Battlefield? I can hop on whatever in about an hour, possibly even sooner, so just let me know what everyone is thinking.

You have got to be kidding me.

The game doesn't favor hosting, it gives to whoever has the best connection. If that happens to be a British hosting, then everybody in the US gets yellow ping, or vice versa.

If you play during peak US hours, there will obviously be better US connections available that will be picked over British connections every time.

I'll play whichever game everyone else wants to. I was trying to help AJ rank up last night in Battlefield for a bit and wouldn't mind doing it again. Or we can split the night up again over the two games?

I'm interested to see how good Mystic is on COD4 though :p

Yeah, no work here and the wife is outside in the yard enjoying the sun so I have some time.

So I am going to eat something for the first time today and then be on in a few. COD4 is already in my drive so I am thinking just play that for a bit. :p

I guess we will see who is on playing what.

My bad, I really should have thought that statement out a little more before I typed it. Hadnt had coffee yet. :p

And well, we were playing when there possibly could have been more US players playing then UK players.

So with that being said, I'll keep my mouth shut about lag. It's getting me into too much trouble.

I wont be able to make it on til later tonight, if at all. I have to go to Delaware this afternoon (about 1.5 hours away), and I have no idea when I'll be back.

I left BC as even though I was in the same game, I wasn't in the squad, and I kept getting some squealing kid TK'ing me every time I reached an objective first and planted explosives, and when defending would set C4 on the gold and set it off :(

Ill be up for COD4, just cooking something to eat, be about 10-15mins

    • But they will be the first asking for a bail out the moment crap goes sideways. Its just a matter of time with this AI thing unless skynet gets us first.
    • I'm so conflicted with the Google Search AI summaries. On one hand I don't like how it's harming smaller websites by greatly reducing traffic which will harm us all in the long run but on the other hand those AI summaries often give me the information I'm after. I have never once clicked on 'show me more' though and never will.
    • Not a single company as small or large it may be is obligated to subsidize its products and sell them at a loss. Your way of thinking is socialist and as a West German with a German brother state but impoverished by state dictatorship and a socialist command economy situated to the East i can tell you - this kind of thinking very quickly leads to products not being produced anymore at all. EDIT: That does not mean that I find state support for social needs unreasonable. Quite the contrary. Together with solid workers' rights we exactly had exactly that in Germany for decades in the form of the Sozialstaat which was as the scandinavian social democratic very successful - until the number of people who drew from those resources dramatically increased (ironically a project of social democrat and green proponents).
    • Apple reportedly has a second-generation iPhone Fold planned for 2027 by Hamid Ganji The iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated tech products expected to debut this fall. It will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, ushering in a new product category for the company. While the first generation has yet to hit the shelves, a new leak suggests Apple has already begun work on its successor. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claims that the second-generation iPhone Fold has already been confirmed, meaning Apple could launch a successor in fall 2027. The foldable iPhone is also reportedly referred to as the “iPhone Ultra,” though it remains unclear whether Apple will ultimately choose that branding, especially as Samsung is rumored to rename the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra this year. The leaker also claims that the second-generation foldable will feature a wider folding display while reusing the same screen found in the first generation. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer screen in a passport-style form factor. It has already been reported that Apple plans to change its iPhone release cycle in 2026 to spread launches throughout the year. Under this strategy, the iPhone Fold is expected to debut this fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 are expected to arrive later in 2026 or in early 2027. Speaking of the iPhone Air, Digital Chat Station says Apple remains undecided about a third-generation model. The company is reportedly waiting to see how the iPhone Air 2 performs in the market, and if sales disappoint, a successor may never materialize. As we reported this week, the iPhone Air has not been scrapped from Apple’s plans. The second-generation model is reportedly scheduled for spring 2027 and could introduce upgrades such as an additional rear camera for ultrawide photography and improved battery life.
