[Official] SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation

Recommended Posts

The USA launch of Socom was marred with enough bugs and issues to make ET on the Atari look good. However since patch 1.4/1.41 which coincides with the launch of the game in Europe (it launched on Thursday just passed), it's faaaaaaaaar better than what it was like.

Basically the whole game should have been delayed till now like it was for Europe. Slant6 have got it up to a stage where it's a solid Socom game, they just put it on the shelves far too early in America which has given them a bad reputation and hurt Socom. However since launch surprisingly the game has had large volumes of players at all times, just shows the brand popularity, people want to like/enjoy the franchise and thankfully finally they're getting a better representation of it.

Sethos likes tactical shooters, so it's of no surprise a better working Socom is up his alley.

Now to hopefully see next week what Zipper are doing with MAG, they were the original creators of Socom on the PS2.

is there a online manual for this game? some controls dont seem to be described in the options and i cant be bothered using trial and error to discover them

being able to dance on the dead guys head is a fun option but they should add t-bagging in the next update

And what a strange game it is for him to like - one which is generally slated for poor buggy play

Audioboxer is right, the 1.41 patch pretty much fixed the majority of the issues I had with the game. These issues were mainly connection issues, lag and general server problems. The game itself does have its flaws, just like any other game but I can overlook those. The game is definitely right up my alley with the huge maps, lots of tactical gameplay, camping and teamwork - It's even making me consider getting the Official PS3 Headset, only consider though, not a lot of talking in most PS3 games and SOCOM is no different.

I also agree with the fact that the game should have been delayed until these issues were sorted in the US as well. It has been a very long beta test since release and only the Europeans get to experience the product as it should have been.

But on the bright side, a Danish console community which has a lot of focus on SOCOM has talked to Slant6, asking for a "Nordic" channel, for us Scandinaviacs  Should be up today or tomorrow, then I should definitely go crazy whenever time allows me to.

Oh and one of these days I might clean up the original post, update it, fix broken links and change the layout a bit.

SOCOM: Confrontation 1.50 Update

In addition to Tournaments, Clan Ladders and the Calendar, the team at Slant Six has been busy adding new community requested features to the 1.50 update. The following items have been confirmed for the 1.50 update with additional items to come:

* Added the ability to join directly into a friend's game off of the friend's list.

* Added password protected custom games.

* Drastically improved the weapon selection ring. You can now move while selecting weapons and the weapon selection is much faster and more accurate.

* Slightly reduced the Famas accuracy.

* Improved the damage of the Desert Eagle. One shot kill with light and medium armor.

* Improved sniper rifle damage. One shot kills with bolt action rifles on light and medium armor.

* Fixed a large number of level exploits.

* Channel names are sorted alphabetically by default.

* Reduced the long fade in at the beginning of rounds to less than 1 second (the "darkness" is gone).

* Added a 30 second game start timer to games when greater than 60% of the players ready up.

* Clan patches are now displayed on your character in-game.

* Clan tags are now displayed with your player name in-game.

* Added center markers to all scopes and changed the color of the crosshairs so that they are visible at night.

* Kill cam stops following target after 5 seconds.

* Button prompts in death cam fade out after 5 seconds.

* Target Spotting now defaults to off.

* Weapons selected in-game are not saved to your custom loadout.

We'll have more information and details about the 1.50 update as the plans get finalized.

Seems like they are really turning this game around (Y)

The game seemed to improve a lot since I last played it which was a little over 5 months ago. Now I can actually sit down and watch time fly by getting into the game. Where as before I just couldn't bring myself into the game. It isn't socom 1 or 2 but it is a solid game now.

  • 1 month later...

Haven't played this game since the first month it came out, things are WAY better than I remembered. Lots of people are actually using their headsets in this game and that's basically unheard of on PSN. Anyone else still playing this game currently?

The 1.50 Update for SOCOM: Confrontation is feature complete and currently in test. Due to the number and scope of the feature set of 1.50 the testing cycle has taken longer than anticipated. We remain committed to releasing this patch as soon as the remaining open issues are resolved. It is extremely important to us to make sure the 1.50 update is as problem free as possible when it is released and we are working towards that goal rather than pushing it out as is on a specific date.

A number of features in 1.50 are of such a scale that it will not be possible for us to fully predict how they will behave before public deployment. An example of this is the tournaments, each of which can accommodate 1000s of players. To account for this, we will ramp the size and number of tournaments during the first weeks after release to monitor and address any issues which may arise. We have also been working on a 1.60 Update which will incorporate any fixes that are required as Tournaments and Clan Ladders become fully populated.

FREE Downloadable Content:

We are happy to announce that the 1.60 Update will also contain additional features and content. We’ve heard your requests for new content and we are happy to provide free downloadable content with the 1.60 update. The following free Downloadable Content will be available to all players:

New Special Forces: The Dutch KCT and the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces. Each Force includes new heads and voice + a light, medium and heavy variant of their own torso and legs (each with a unique camouflage pattern).

Two new primary weapons will be immediately accessible to players who select to play as the new Special Forces; the 417 assault rifle for the Dutch KCT and the SPAS 15 shotgun for the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces.

Four new weapons will be available to all players regardless of assigned Special Force. These are the 9mm Sub Machine Gun, M82A1A, Ak-74 and SR-25. The 1.60 will also include a number of weapon updates and adjustments to existing weapons.

In addition to the free DLC included with the 1.60 update we are also working to add 100% Random Medleys in the 1.60 update. We know this is a highly requested feature and we really want to get it out to you.

More DLC coming! - We can also confirm that we have been working on a major content release/pack. Look for an announcement later in the month.

We will release more information on Patch 1.6 after 1.5 has been released.

Free DLC, that's how you do it (Y)

I think 1.5 is due to hit at the end of this month/early next.

Unfortunately it's way too late, this game deserved to be polished and ready the day it was released, too many have lost interest at this point and only the hardcore players seem to remain - You can almost count on one hand the amount of players online at any given time.

What?

This is easily the most populated 1st party Sony title still

Ha, then I feel sorry for the games below it.

Why because there's thousands of people playing at 4pm UK, around 11am USA time on a weekday?

That's definitely "counting on your hand" the amount of players online... I should check it out at night/the weekend to see if there's any more.

Haha, you call that alot for a game with ONLY multiplayer?!

Sad.

You called it "counting on your hand", that it definitely isn't. Especially not during a weekday when it's obviously going to be quieter.

You can get into a game and have a bit of choice to play fine, that's what matters no? So there's no need for the melodramatic "it's too late".

And yeah I took the photos, just so I could prove you wrong ;)

See, now your being pedantic again, as always. It's an expression, you may have heard of it.

And don't cloud the fact that is a pathetic amount of players for such an established game, it IS too late - The amount of players including myself that left the game due to issues and lost so much respect for the SOCOM brand is staggering, just because a tiny amount of players remain it's far, FAR from a success.
