Google Chrome Browser

Pretty sad actually that most people would never have tried a Webkit based browser until Google of course comes out with Chrome here when Safari uses it just fine also. But, hey, that's competition for you I suppose.

Seems pretty slick, but opens 4 processes? Even for a beta that's alot if you ask me, hell IE8 B1 only had 2 open :D But it's a first beta, no biggie. Safari nightlies still render faster though (anyone know if you can use the webkit nightlies with Chrome like Safari?)

Well Apple's really to blame with that one for making such a poor effort with Safari. They pretty much brought over all the Mac concept and ideas and expected everyone using windows to change how they did things rather that adapt their "perfect" (in their eyes) browser.

what the hell I can't scroll at all in google chrome with the touchpad on my laptop.

At LOC the multiple processes are by DESIGN, IE8 beta 2 does the same thing. Each tab has it's own process to increase stability and security, also one tab cannot crash the whole browser.

Yes I know this, and I LOVE the "stats for nerds" in the browser Task Manager it comes with, very slick stuff. Shows exactly how much memory, private and shared, both virtual and actual. Nice touch.

Safari still sucks on Windows. My opinion on Chrome and Safari has nothing to do with Webkit.

I don't find Safari poor at all. I know some people find the text/font a huge issue, but that doesn't bother me at all. Runs nice and fast for me, and while the lack of addons/plugins etc does kinda stink, overall it is a very capable browser and renders like lightning (as does Chrome).

Using the browser now :D. Thought i'd never switch to ANYTHING from Mozilla Firefox but dayam this rocks! :p

Now only if it had addons :s

I always said I'd always use Firefox, then I switched to Safari and said I'd never use anything else because it was so fast and simple, and now Google Release this.

It just goes to show, some companies dont give a crap about their products and just make more and more bloated versions (Microsoft) others make damn good products based on Customer Feedback (Google, Apple, Mozilla)

They're not supported yet. A lot of basic features are missing, but those that are there are damn good.

Totally agree with you Emil. (Y) Chrome is showing amazing promise.

Perhaps Microsoft should throw out it's rendering engine and pay Apple to use Webkit.

I dunno, I find IE8 B2 incredibly good actually. I think MS finally listened to complaints and fixed/added alot of stuff - finally.

I doubt I'd make Chrome my default browser (Safari currently has that honor with K-Meleon a fall back) but it's a slick little deal either way.

I would actually use Safari on Windows, if:

1. It had a better matching UI to Vista,

2. Had different font smoothing.

Otherwise it's a very good browser too.

Chrome is too incomplete for my liking, I'll just go back to Firefox, for now.

Do you use Safari in Windows or on Mac?

Is there a way to customize Safari or change it's UI?

On Windows. And as Vegetunks said, no there is no way to change the UI in Safari (yet, I hope they add something).

Fonts and text look totally normal to me in Chrome, though the only odd thing I've discovered so far is the weirdy mouse scroll (seems like way more than the usual 3 lines) that goes down half a page sometimes :D

Yes, each tab has it's own process, as well as javascript having it's own process, addons will have their own process, etc. This way nothing can crash each other. At least that's according to the comic google released which explains everything.

Typing this from Chrome now. This is a really nice browser, and has some potential.

Pros:

  • Fast, very fast
    Small footprint
    Easy to use
    Looks sleek
    Incognito (porn) mode

Cons:

  • No search bar on the top-right corner. I know you can perform searches in the address bar, but the search bar is much more suited for it.
    No middle-click autoscroll
    No extensions (a big deal)
    No find-as-you-type
    More options needed in settings

If they fix those issues, I would honestly consider switching over to it.

It still looks like it is in very early development, but has a fighting chance, since it is Google after all. Finally, some more selection to help browsers fight back and keep consumers

It will not run if you are using Symantec Endpoint Protection. If gives an error. Uninstall that and it should work.

There must be something wrong with your setup because I have and use Symantec Endpoint on my Vista and Chrome installed perfectly fine and it is running like a charm.

Ctrl+F and then type away :)

Needs a right click on a link and Bookmark this link option. Needs option to open tabs in foreground when middle click on a link instead of in the background, some people like it that way, and the ability to export bookmarks n passwords to a backup and import back from that file if need be.

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
