"The Amazing Spiderman" (2012)

Recommended Posts

I think I've watched this trailer about 20 times in the past day. Definitely gets rid of alot of fears I had for the "Reboot" but I like the way its going and it kind of fits into the Marvel feel of movies.

That said, of course it could be a HUGE stinker but I doubt it based on this.

Jesus, with TDKR, Avengers and now Spiderman = very good year for Comic Book movies!

I have to admit that the trailer does look awesome and I am sure it will impress those who never saw the first franchise with Toby McGuire but can someone please tell me why Columbia PIctures decided to "reboot" the franchise by telling the same, exact story all over again? Seriously, why? What exactly was wrong with the first Spidey movie?

Why reboot?

First, Tobey Maguire is now 37, isn't aging well and looks less like a 20-something every month. If you want to continue the franchise a recast is in order, but....

Second, Sam Raimi had taken the franchise downhill in #3 and with no sign of ticking up based on the script for #4 - a franchise killer.

Third, his series started out non-canonical by making the web shooters biological and bypassing Peter's earlier backstory. This alone could have generated 2-3 films before he ever met Mary Jane Watson.

Fourth, they wanted to follow the less gee-whiz tone of newer Marvel & DC films, which is also the direction the Fantastic Four reboot and Doctor Strange will take.

Damn, just remembered there was a new trailer so finally watched it just now. I have to say, my expectations for this version have gone way, way up.

I also really like Dennis Leary, always have, and had no idea he was in it. If you told me he was in it without me seeing the trailer I would have thought to myself bad idea, but seeming him in the trailer it seems like a perfect fit for the type of character he usually plays.

But yeah this actually looks pretty good. Definitely darker than the previous movies.

WonderCon: Spider-Man Rocks

Does the reboot look as Amazing as its title suggests?

Gwen Stacy herself, Emma Stone joined director Marc Webb and producer Matt Tolmach to give fans a sneak peek at The Amazing Spider-Man during today's Sony panel at WonderCon. So does the upcoming 3D reboot look as Amazing as its title suggests?

The star and filmmakers showed footage from the flick and participated in a Q&A, and also fielded questions from web-slinger fans. If you were one of the folks who attended last month's worldwide Spidey sneak peek then you would've found the footage shown today quite familiar since it is the exact same stuff. Click here for a rundown of what the footage entails. (Surprise! It's awesome!)

Tolmach and Webb chatted about the film's inclusion of Peter's late parents, something new to the franchise. They wanted to explore the impact of losing one's parents would have on such a young hero. Webb recalled having lunch with Stan Lee and asking why so many superheroes are orphans and why he made Peter one, to which Stan the Man replied, "I just needed to get him out of the house."

Stone and the filmmakers also talked about the importance of Gwen Stacy and her dad Captain Stacy (played by Denis Leary). Stone said it was important to note that Gwen fell for Peter first, not the other way around. She spoke about Gwen's feelings about seeing her dad strap a gun to his hip every morning and wondering if he'd ever come home, and the irony of then being with Peter who is also in that same precarious position -- except he's being hunted by her dad.

Stone also recalled how she was originally approached about playing Mary Jane Watson, but then when the script was finally finished the character had been changed to Gwen. She only knew Spidey from Sam Raimi's trilogy, but once she landed the role she dove into the comics and fell in love with Gwen. She also spoke about the honor and immensity of being part of something with 50 years of history and a passionate fan base. She said she couldn't possibly capture all those years of Gwen's history and incarnations of her and had to just play and develop what was there on the page.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3.

Emma Stone is perfect look for Gwen.

I do like the suit on spider man. But the lizard..ha. I would love if they would put a cameo of some villian in the movie that would be in the next one. A background shot or something. Not a speaking roll. just a teaser say. shot of the villian on a rooftop with the camera behind him as he watches spiderman race on his web building to building.

'Amazing Spider-Man 2' in the Works With 'Star Trek' Writers

The Amazing Spider-Man movie doesn?t open until July 3, but Sony is already hard at work developing a sequel.

The studio has tapped Star Trek and Transformers writing team Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to work the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Spider-Man, which reboots the franchise under the direction of Marc Webb and actor Andrew Garfield, has a screenplay written by Alvin Sargent, Steve Kloves and James Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt already penned a draft of the sequel but is now working on White House Down, the action movie that is a high priority for the studio.

Bringing in the duo highlights the premium importance the studio is putting on the sequel. The hiring of the high-profile writers is not cheap, and it shows that Sony does not want to lose any momentum on the project. ?

The studio has set a May 2, 2014, release date and wants to be in production in the first quarter of 2013.?

?Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great character and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man,? said Matt Tolmach, who is producing with Avi Arad.

Added Arad, ?They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero, but a hero for all of us.?

I like this reboot because it's closer to the comics from what i've seen. I hated the fact the first movies just jumped right to MJ and events that don't happen till a good chunk of time later in the comics. Gwen and her character is good and to totally skip her "arc" sucked. I just hope they go with her character all the way before they decide to re-introduce MJ, maybe not till a 3rd movie if it goes how I think it should.
