Main thing is to learn the courses inside out on Venom speed first. The campaign mode is great for setting you up for Rapier/Phantom races because it forces you to go through all the race courses repeatedly slowly first.

Just remember that when you do move up a speed bracket your driving tactics and lines will have to change slightly. Generally... slow speeds = more d-pad, less airbrakes/sideshifts, fast speeds = less d-pad, more airbrakes/sideshifts.

You use the d-pad?

You use the d-pad?

Yea I prefer d-pad over analog for Wipeout. DOn't ask why, I just prefer it. Guess I got used to it on the PSP games, and when I started playing HD I tried using analog first, but found d-pad a lot easier to transfer the skills I've got.

I used autopilot for the first race and turned it off before i moved on... thought it was just a feature to help the newcomers out for the first few matches...

I went online later that evening just to find that everyone was much better than me... apparently everyone uses autopilot online too.

Thought it was a bit weird really... feels like using cheats online.

Its a good game, haven't played a wipeout since 2097 was released on the PC... 10 years ago :o

I felt the same way, but at really high speeds the pilot assist doesn't save you from crashing, it just stops you from grinding the walls the whole time. I broke down and started using it once i got to the third series, and it's still really tough.

Trying to beat Zico's lap is frustrating, did the 99 lap trophy at the same time and was still about 3 seconds off the pace :(

Someone else said the same thing... you guys doing it on Phantom?

I'm going to try this one a bit later on today.

[edit] My bad, just saw you have to do it on Venom with the Piranha. Will try later on, although I almost exclusively use the AG Systems ship. Will post on how I do here a bit later.

I got the Zico Trophy yesterday after around 300 laps of trying and practicing, it has to be on Venom using Pirahna.

I made a small video of where you need to do the barrel rolls to beat him, in total you have to do 4 barrel rolls in order to get enough speed, it was insane but man i was jumping when i made it!!!

Can see that's where most people are probably going wrong.

Thought I recognised your name from somewhere on the PS3 Trophy forums, I saw the post about half eight last night, congrats on the achievement :) I just can't seem to pull off the first two rolls at the start of the lap, the one to the overpass and dropping down I have nailed easily :)

Would of been nice to see a 'ghost Zico' floating about to see his line and use of the boost etc :)

Yea definately would be good to see how he did his time.

I tried earlier, just now watched the video, those first two rolls look really difficult! I was trying to do the one getting onto the overpass, but I'm struggling with that one too. Seems like the rolls in the video complete much faster than when I do it. :\

Will keep trying though. Got 32.09 so far

yeah it takes a lot of practice, specially the one right before the overpass, thats the hardest one, i can only do it 1 out of every 10 times, and sometimes i would get the other ones perfect and then fail that one.. it really is necessary as it increases the speed at which you go trough the overpass.

Another question, did you have autopilot on?

Will have another crack at getting it done tonight although I think I was only just under 33 secs so a lot to lose, I'm thinking if i can crack those two rolls at the start I should have it figured :)

nooooo, autopilot will actually make you worse as you really need to get close to the corners to shave off important milliseconds.

Good luck!!!

Obviously late to this since I was in Europe, but I did buy it last night and checked it out for the first race track, and first thing, and really the only thing I can say is, looks outstanding. On my 50" 1080p Sony TV, just looks stunning.

Now I have to learn how to play the game all over again.

Also... how did you record your lap?

Small Canon Picture camera and a tripod, hahaha, im surprised how well it turned out.

Man, im playing on a 55" Hitachi Projection HDTV at 1080i, looks amazing but i would like to see it at actual 1080p, must be breath taking.

Also, have patience with the game, it is hard but it feels so good when you actually win races :)

Oh, just realised it was a camera. Came out real nice.

That's always the way with Wipeout, it really does get hard, but when you win, or achieve something, you really get a thrill out of it.

Gah people with big screens make me cry. No room for one right now so running through a Samsung Monitor/TV Hybrid it does accept 1080p resolutions though, even though the display only has 1050 pixels. Thankfully Wipeout seems to recognise this and scales down the HUD to fit correctly.

Will be trying to beat Zico again tonight along with a few other trophies I want to try get :)

CY:G, I'm a bit confused. I can see that you have the gold trophy for "Beat Zico" but when I check the results after a race, it says that your best score is only 0.36.85 !?!?

The score boards for Wipeout HD are a joke, wait a couple of days and you will see my score there, and Toilet_duck wont be on first place anymore as i know some people that have gotten better times than him.

If you play Online the game will tell you sometimes that you are 2nd or whatever place in the World in that track, when you go to actually check it in the scoreboards your time is no where to be found, lots of bugs in that part....

    • NASA: This asteroid may not kill us but it probably won't be far off either by Sayan Sen Image by Zelch Csaba via Pexels New observations by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope have eliminated the last remaining impact threat posed by asteroid 2024 YR4, ruling out the possibility that the near-Earth object could strike the Moon in December 2032. NASA said observations collected by Webb on February 18 and 26, 2026, enabled scientists to refine the asteroid's orbit enough to "rule out a chance of lunar impact on Dec. 22, 2032." Instead, asteroid 2024 YR4 is now expected to pass the Moon at a distance of about 13,200 miles (21,200 km). The agency stressed that the update "reflects improved precision in our understanding of where the asteroid is expected to be in 2032 rather than a shift in its orbital path." The announcement closes a remarkable chapter in planetary defence that began in late 2024, when the approximately 60-metre-wide asteroid briefly became the most closely watched near-Earth object in the world. Discovered on December 27, 2024, by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, 2024 YR4 initially appeared to have a small chance of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032. As astronomers gathered more observations, the impact probability briefly climbed to around 3%—the highest ever recorded for an asteroid of its size—before steadily falling as its orbit became better understood. By early 2025, international observations had ruled out any significant risk to Earth. However, astronomers were left with another possibility: a roughly 4% chance that the asteroid could instead strike the Moon. "The probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 will strike the Moon on 22 December 2032 is now approximately 4%," the European Space Agency (ESA) had said last year, noting that "there is a 96% chance that the asteroid will not impact the Moon." ESA said such an impact, while unlikely, would have presented an extraordinary scientific opportunity. "It is a very rare event for an asteroid this large to impact the Moon – and it is rarer still that we know about it in advance. The impact would likely be visible from Earth, and so scientists will be very excited by the prospect of observing and analysing it," said Richard Moissl, Head of ESA's Planetary Defence Office. "It would certainly leave a new crater on the surface. However, we wouldn't be able to accurately predict in advance how much material would be thrown into space, or whether any would reach Earth," he added. The asteroid also exposed an important blind spot in planetary defence. Because 2024 YR4 approached Earth from the direction of the Sun, it remained hidden from ground-based telescopes until after its closest approach. "We looked into how Neomir would have performed in this situation, and the simulations surprised even us," Moissl said. "Neomir would have detected asteroid 2024 YR4 about a month earlier than ground-based telescopes did. This would have given astronomers more time to study the asteroid's trajectory and allowed them to much sooner rule out any chance of Earth impact in 2032." He added, "As an infrared telescope, like Webb, Neomir would have also immediately given us a much better estimate for the asteroid's size, which is very important for assessing the significance of the hazard." The latest NASA observations underscore the value of space-based infrared telescopes in tracking faint asteroids. According to NASA, Webb made "among the faintest ever observations of an asteroid," extending the object's observational record by nearly eight months at a time when it had become too faint for other telescopes. That additional data allowed scientists to eliminate the remaining uncertainty surrounding its 2032 flyby. Although asteroid 2024 YR4 is now confirmed to pose no threat to either Earth or the Moon, scientists say its discovery remains one of the most significant real-world tests of the international planetary defence system, demonstrating how continued observations can rapidly transform an object once considered hazardous into one whose future path is known with high confidence. • Yup. Google is just scraping the entire internet for their own ad profits without sharing revenue with the sources. It's obviously stealing, but since these sites depend upon Google's search scraps to survive... As for me, I just stopped using Google for anything except Reddit searches. If Reddit's own search wasn't complete crapola, I'd never use Google search again.
