What would you consider a reasonable price?

i would say its reasonably priced for the most part, but i have a tv tuner card, and id like to be able to use remote desktop...which is not included in the basic/premium versions.

something kinda cool but weird on my laptop is. When I go away from it long enough, were the screensaver kicks in, or where it shuts the monitor off, when I come back to using it. The screen fades in, instead of just shaking the mouse/clicking the keyboard and it instantly shows back up.

Anyone else having this? Do you like it or not?

This fading, when exactly does it start? Have you already touched anything when it started?

yeah. When I click on a key on the keyboard or shake the mouse.. You know.. the normal way you would get a computer out of sleep mode.. On Vista (and xp for that matter) when you do that, the desktop just shows back up, its like from black to bright... no transition or anything.. But on 7.. It is a slow fading in from black to desktop.

Smooth I gotta say ^^

Anyone had a chance to play around with the home networking features? Isn't there something new in there allows you to setup a "group" or something along those lines?

Time to keep an eye out for any MS offers for a free copy of Win7 when it hits RTM. That's how I got Vista Business + Office 2007 Pro and I just picked up Vista Ultimate the other day at a Technet Event. FFRRRRREEBIES! ;)

EDIT: HomeGroup that is what I was thinking of...

I really like the new features, and already when I go back to Vista it feels out of date. The idea of having to customise it every time a new build is released is a bit off-putting though.

One question: does anybody know how to configure enhancements in WMP12?

it is now in the now playing mode only. just click on the right (on the top) most button in now playing mode. plus WMP 12 has a new Dolby related enhancement as well.

Take a look at Windows Media Center on the XBOX 360. This already has the codename Fiji-now called TV Pack. You can now stream and watch Divx Movies directly from Media Center. Where as before is in the old media extender, you had to go to media blade-videos and then have XBOX download a update to watch Divx from the media blade-videos.

Lots of cool new features for playback, Movie info, New Menu's, New Navigation....Excellent!

So far I'm liking 7. One of my favorite things so far is when I installed it, it automatically edited the bootloader to include both vista and windows 7 since I'm dual booting. Pretty nice...

ive got 30 minutes left, until i can try it out.

    • Looks the same as the Air, actually. Check it out in person.
    • "This transition will take several years so we shouldn't bother doing it at all" is a naive take. This is completely normal for all specifications that cross-cut software, hardware and multiple industries. Look at the PCI specification for another example, consumers barely have PCI-E 5 yet PCI-SIG is working on PCI-E 8. AV2 will take multiple years to get adoption and even then, even a decade from now people will still have older hardware that doesn't support it. That's fine, because the savings still add up as newer devices add the hardware to deal with it. The goal is never to get 100% on the new spec overnight, but to gradually adopt it.

    • I named Hitler because he is the de facto anti-semite. But you don't have to hate Jews to be a genocidal maniac. In fact, these days, so called semites are the ones acting in ways that would make Hitler proud.
