^ e-peen meter alert... It doesn't really matter what you bought because Microsoft isn't getting that money. Piracy does hurt consoles and publishers alike. Look at the psp, the amount of third party developers dropping support for that system is dropping tremendously and you can't blame them because they aren't seeing any money, but sony is with console sales. That is the side effect of what happens when something is generally easy to mod. People out there act like Microsoft is doing this for themselves but they aren't. If they didn't do anything about it no one would publish games for their consoles...

Like I've said before I don't care who gets the money, every one looses if piracy rates are high, every one wins if console hardware sales are high, your console gets pirated and watch it fail like the dreamcast, your console gets pirated and sell it like hot cakes like the PS2, Microsoft can't reverse their past mistakes totally (flashable drives, RROD etc) so they ban people from their online service, that will stop piracy? NO, that will make some people run to buy a new Xbox? may be, piracy benefits a console position as a leader??? :unsure:

I heard over xbox live someone got banned for his modded xbox. Said he called them up, complained and they wouldn't unban his console. Reason why a $200 system is worth paying the $60 price tag for a game. New or used.

for $200 he can't even get 4 games, I'm sure he played a lot more than that, so he can go and buy a new xbox and he's still saving money

I should of pointed out, that he played all his games on Live (from what I remember of the conversation). His stupid fault for pirating games, and modding his console.

Well thats the bonus these days, the 360 is so damn dirt cheap if anyone is banned they can easily replace it with a new console for playing legit games / XBL and keep their modded one purely for backups / SP.

Issue is pirates never play legit games :laugh:

Any money 2nd console is modded 95% of the time, with a plan of "I'll just play 100% legit rips this time".

what annoys me is that MS makes it sound like they are banning the pirates for the "safety" of the community, it's not like they play modified version of the games. They have the exact same game as any other players on live....just on a different medium ;)

We both just dropped ?140~ for GHWT this week. Not to mention I bought Fable 2, GOW2 and waiting on L4D, Mirrors Edge and Banjo:pp

No body said the contrary, and about some people on their 3rd/4th due to bannings remembers me of Homer Simpson and a hammer :p but yes, there are all kind of weeds in this garden :yes:

honestly audio, thats one of the dumbest things you have said on here, and usually you are one of the smartest on here. I do, and i buy games that are worth my money that i know i'll get the value out of. Do you download mp3s and never buy cds or music over itunes? Same situation. In my experience, people, if they have the money, will still go out and buy something that they feel is worth it to them, especially for the multiplayer content.

It was a "joke", if you read my reply to Draken I said no one can prove that either way.

I really don't care what pirates do, just won't surprise me if many people get a 360 banned, go buy another and mod it as well.

I'm not the FBI, no one needs to "prove" to me their next 360 purchase will stay unmodded :laugh:

Yeah apparently it doesnt have a writeable ROM so isnt flashable, hopefully Microsoft can push out as many Liteon equipped 360s as possible.

Quite the opposite, the ROM is more than writable, it's DUMPING it that's proving tricky. They need to dump it in order to modify it.

That's not necessarily true. I'm not sure what the SP on it is now, but not so long ago pirates would play modified versions which let them effectively cheat in multiplayer (since everything is handled locally) and I believe unlock achievements more quickly.

Your console gets banned from live. Console still works, gamertag still works, console just can't connect to live.

Plug the hard drive into an unbanned 360 and you can go online. Plug a hard drive from an unbanned 360 into a banned one, you CAN'T go online - console itself is banned, nothing else. Games always work fine offline.

Rubbish!

The ROM on the new Liteon drives is NOT writable, that is the problem. Liteon key dumping is do-able in order to switch drives using that key, but its a big risk, and a costly one at that. Good on MS for taking the much needed step of installing a drive that cant be flashed with anything. Lets see more of this type of prevention in future :)

An Xbox fitted with a device that alerts MS when opened or tampered with would be an expensive thing, but a good one IMO. ;)
