You don't really 'play' Home though if we are being pedantic.

The PS3 is delivering now though, and has been for the last 6 or 7 months. Yes Home isn't great right now, and that's the only application I would say should have that tagline

PS3's tagline really should have been "buy potential", that's where most of their products start life off tbh.

That's where every product starts off in it's early years.

Good thing if history is to go by said products in the gaming division have met their potentials to a satisfactory level (PS1/PS2), but everyone seems to keen to forget that when it comes to predicting the PS3s future. Wonder why?

Some people seem to have the blinders on when it comes to remembering most consoles start low and build to momentous heights, not start at the top and fall down. Software being the biggest cause of that, every single generation software improves over time, not the opposite. Pricing also a key factor, it goes down over time.

Just an observation, nothing more.

It's a problem AB when they don't ever advance from that stage, is what I mean ;)

To try and claim as a whole unit (being all which is tied to the PS3 brand) they haven't advanced, is being rather short sighted. Progression has been made.

In regards to Home advancing, it's hardly been out long enough to claim it's never advanced. It is what it is right now, let's see where it goes and then be the judge of what progression if any is made.

edit: I notice you said you're talking about software, even easier to show software progression since 2006 till now on the PS3. Whether that be from the games front or the OS front.

Everything is tied to the one golden rule of time, things get better over time and always have done in the gaming world. It's only this generation so many people have decided we don't seem to have time, and everything is seemingly going to stop progressing after a few years.

The gaming industry gamers seem to be trying to turn the gaming industry into the fast food industry. Where as games themselves are actually becoming more complex, getting bigger budgets and doing better things. Not saying that's going to increase development time on everything, but it's certainly not going to aid the gamers who think things will start coming 10x quicker than previous generations. The OS on consoles are also becoming more complex and getting better. Last generation Sony didn't even need to update anything software related on the PS2.

I'm talking about PS3 games the past few years which didn't go onto success, which also had a lot of potential.

Home is following in their footsteps, so far. Just imagine if this was Home for the rest of its life, no further updates etc and just look at the back lash people have given it. It took over 3 years to get this, how long before we see something of this potential materialise..

2009? 2010? PS4?

Because I can?

Its a pretty valid arguement to make, seeing them take so long to give us what Home is today, how long will it be before people actually want to use it?

Cause in its current state, just look at this topic. Nobody cares about it and its "failed".

For every failure there is a success or two. Yeah games have potential and flop, but that isn't anything new and it happens to every platform games are on, handheld, PC, console, mobile, ect.

Why not look at those that have succeeded? The success rate also tends to rocket upwards over time, as developers learn your system better and produce better results.

Why would you even imagine no further updates to Home? It's the one piece of software on the PS3 that will receive the most updates in the consoles lifespan. Far more than any games, or the PS3 OS combined.

Home is a service, it will most likely be carried over to the PS4, like MS carried Live from the Xbox to Xbox360.

I dont know..

but if i bought a 400? consolle I would definitely expect much more then Home or the promises for potential. They have banked the money on the most expensive cosolle and they under delivered on several fronts, at the same time cutting features that were making it appealing.

Purely from the point of view of the wallet, it was a bad investment.

TBH AB, I just wrote out a lengthy reply to you (at least in my book ;)) but I just can't be arsed discussing this with you, with Boy Wonder there at your side.

Well sorry to hear that, I'm an independent voice of my own opinion, I don't ask for people to speak for me, nor do I sheep myself along with others.

I understand remarks about the PS3 and potential, and people complaining about waiting perfectly fine - That all abides to your perception and patience levels.

What I don't understand is when people lay off, or downplay that progression has been made and will continue to be made - I'm only basing that off history, and not just history from previous generations, enough changes have been made this generation between Sony and MS.

Arguing about it can be quite mundane anyway, the funny thing is time will provide all these improvements, but time also answers all the speculation we're firing around. No one knows anything speculative as fact ;)

If you buy a console for 1 application you need your head reading;))

@AB

Right, and because your quite an optimist you aren't really looking at the other side of the scale. Whereas I'm looking at both. Seems some people don't get that.

But whatever, these people aren't worth my time (N)

nmesisca gets the idea though, it must be Celt thing :)

Buying it because of its (supposed) potential isnt muc better either!

Fact is there is no such thing as "potential" money, which I would be more then happy to pay the cosole with, hence waiting for such potential to be unleashed ..

Sounds a bit like the 'can of whoopass' a-la nVidia..

Quite the contrary, above you can see I said

I embrace that there is failures.

What I don't do is box myself into a forgone conclusion as early as some people around here do. I like to ride the fence as optimistically as I can till I know there is absolutely no chance of success, then I'll admit something has failed, a term that's thrown around very eagerly in this GH.

So yeah, I am quite an optimist, but I feel it's a choice that allows me to enjoy the best of everything I can with my gaming (Y)

Software is also one of the easiest things to be optimistic about, as unlike hardware, it can be patched and changed drastically at will. What you see day 1, is not what you see month 6, year 2, year 5 and so forth. That's exciting to me, not worrying.

LOL

who knows maybe this time I wont get reported for disagreeing with the fan.. ehm the passionate ones.

@AB

you should be a politician.

I hear you, I really do.

Thing is though, the PS3 is already delivering for me so my purchase wasn't using potential money.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
