EA Sports Complex Explored

Home just got in the game.

US, March 12, 2009 - There have been plenty of mini-games that are available for Home users to check out, whether that's in the arcade or in themed areas. However, they seem to be a bit removed from retail games and even, in some cases, from the areas they're held in. Electronic Arts is hoping to change that when they roll out the EA Sports Complex, a giant area that they want to use to revolutionize outreach between the company and its fans. At a recent press event, I got hands-on time with an early version of the Complex to see what Home users can expect in the near future.

Right off the bat, the Sports Complex is huge; in fact, it's probably the largest Home space to date, dwarfing most areas with a size that's at least two to three times that of current Home locations. Players immediately launch into the lobby of the Complex, which immediately presents them with a giant flat screen with the latest EA Sports trailers or videos. Since it was an early demo, the latest Fight Night Round 4 trailer was on constant loop, but I was told that EA Sports plans on having a plethora of content rolling in this space, from trailers to top ten plays and other items. Bordering the flat screen are banners of various upcoming games as well, which will change out on a current basis, so since the summertime is coming up in a few months, players might expect to see banners for NCAA Football or Madden in the lobby.

playstation-home-20090312095117305_640w.jpg

However, the sports team didn't want to just make this a blanket area for simple marketing of their titles to Home users; instead, they wanted a large amount of interactivity for players, much more than other areas of Home. To that end, they made sure that the first three game spaces that are included within the Complex, Racing, Texas Hold 'Em and Golf, have larger numbers of playable characters that can interact with a particular mini-game at any time. The first area that was immediately visible was the Golf area, which has a full driving range that other Home users can stand on a balcony and watch players drive into. Two sets of four players will be able to test their skills at the range to see how far they can drive a ball, which will provide bragging rights and scores for various leaderboards.

The next area was the Texas Hold 'Em tables, which will allow up to eight players to test their card shark skills at up to five separate tables. Each one will be delineated by skill and total chip balance, so beginners will get a chance at the green tables, while intermediates will be able to walk up to the red VIP tables and high rollers can immediately wager at the black tables upstairs. Players will have two separate bankrolls for these poker games – a virtual one that is initially given to players, as well as purchasable chips that can be put into play. To accelerate games, each player is given around twenty seconds to bet, raise or fold in a hand and if that seems to be taking too long, you're not solely restricted to watching a bland table and countdown timers. By hitting the L1 and L2 buttons, you can change the background to different cameras situated within the Sports Complex, giving you a chance to check up on friends or watch trailers while you play a hand of poker. To ensure that tables are competitive, EA is able to manipulate individual tables to establish different standards like minimum and maximum bets or other standard poker rules.

playstation-home-20090312095128899_640w.jpg

The third space is what will be known as EA Sports Racing – an arcade racing experience where players race an individual RC car around a track and attempt to post their best times based on their race level. Beginners will have to complete a race twice, while Intermediate players will have to go three times and experts will complete four laps. The best times are posted and the winner's times will be highlighted on leaderboards. This area, similar to the golf driving range, can also be watched by spectators that want to cheer on their friends. What's interesting about these three areas that were on the ground floor of the Complex was that all three have a significant presence with leaderboards, which the developers say they want to use to establish tournaments on a weekly, monthly and even yearly basis to determine the best players of the Home games. These won't simply be online bragging rights, however. All of the games will operate on a point system, and the more points that you collect, the more accolades that you'll unlock. For instance, if you become a high roller in poker, you'll earn poker bracelets that your avatar can wear. These will eventually translate to unlockable items in retail games as well, so skilled players in Golf, for instance, might unlock special clubs for Tiger Woods, courses or created player boosts. None of these are guaranteed to be included instantly for the launch of the space, but the developers are looking to put this in as a cross-promotional item.

Upstairs in the Sports Complex, players can also check out individual stations with the latest screenshots of EA Sports games as well as get descriptions of those titles. EA is hoping to expand on these stations as well, turning it into much more than a simple gallery of past games. It also wants to use the space to debut different videos and introduce exclusive elements of their titles to online users. While the space might seem limited for now, it's also built with ample room for improvement; a simple look outside the upstairs windows indicated a plethora of sports spaces, such as a boxing ring, a basketball court, football and soccer stadiums and a hockey rink. While those weren't built out, it's a safe bet that they will be sufficiently established for their prospective games as they're ready to be released. Home users won't have very long to wait to check out these home spaces and start to build their own reputation as a dominant player in the various arenas, however; EA Sports is hoping to launch the Sports Complex with the three areas described above in the next two months.

Looking good :p

This is the sort of stuff people will use Home for, real game unlockables

WTF

this is probably the coolest thing I've witnessed in gaming this year.

been checking out Home content lately.

Japan is clearly leading I would say.

Last time I checked the Siren space in Japan Home there was only the outside area.

Now there is the inside as well.

And my god.. Go to the register. only a handful of people are let into the minigame ever two minutes or so. Continue pressing X to increase your chance to get a spot.

Now.. your group must try to stay alive while exploring hospital. you must pick up items, you must solve puzzles and you must avoid zombie nurses. They walk around and have the same animations as the actual game. You have a personal flashlight on you. Often times the camera will switch to a fixed angle (ala resident evil). Party members will get killed, your group will scatter. Music and sound effects (and even screen filter) directly from game. Death is absolute and you will be thrown out of the game which makes it tense. Yes, you can be killed in Home.

I'm trying to get my mind around this. i just played Siren Online Multiplayer and it was freaky and awesome! And it was just a twenty mb download (the space) in Home. the possibilities blows me away and they were fully demonstrated here. Also, the surprise at the end o_o (I died first time but managed to finish in second run)

edit: you get home items depending on how many puzzles you solve for the group I believe (+ standard ones for just surviving)

Video:

Guy seems a little bit too excited, but to be fair it is a much better use of game spaces than just walking around in empty environments.

On the note of environments, it's pretty cool how good graphically Home can match them up. Anyone been into the Resident Evil 5 space yet? It's not got much to do yet, updates this week, but graphically it looks quite similar to actually being in RE5 (it's an out-take of the beginning area of the real game).

Unlocks:

3 complete sets of clothing (Doctor outfit [male], Nurse outfit [female], and Miyako/"Beauty" outfit [female)

Male and Female T-shirts

I put it in the GDC thread as I believe it's something that's going to be talked about there alongside other Home developments.

Home Business Manager, Dan Speaks Out

If you are active on the PlayStation EU forums, it?s quite likely you have already seen EssexJames? ?Open Letter to SCEE? thread within the Home sub-catagory. It sums up some of the main questions and queries the community have had about the regional disparities, especially between Home.

EssexJames wrote:

Dear SCEE,

I don?t know how much attention you pay to these forums. Perhaps you have focus groups and other methods of receiving customer feedback too. However, if the views which are often expressed on this forum are representative, then I strongly suggest that some changes in approach are required.

We are all PS3 fans. This is why we are here. We all want Home to be the killer app that it can be. It certainly seems to have that potential.

But there are several tweaks to the development and communication approach which I consider will help to significantly alleviate much of the disappointment and unhappiness that is expressed on thi Firstly, Communication.ation.

There are many frustrations which result from shortcomings in communication. These shortfalls exist in both the quality and quantity (frequency) of communications. A case in point is today?s teaser in which it was stated (in relation to next week?s update) that ?patience will be rewarded?.

This is not good enough. If there is something to be announced, then announce it. It will save a week of frustration, needless overhyped speculation, and potentially a shortfall in expectations when the update happens. It is a truism of human nature that people are more likely to recall the week of abject frustration than the few hours of delirium when something good is released. I fear that key users, those who bother to come here to express their heartfelt views, will be alienated in the longer term.

We are adults. We can handle things like ?There are contractual reasons why details can?t be provided. However we are able to confirm that a new game space including some mini games will be launched?. Phrases such as ?be patient? and ?good things come to those who wait? are frankly patronising. Even if we complain, these ?good things? will come anyway. The complainers are ?rewarded? in exactly the same way as the fanboys. We?re not stupid!

If you treat the community here like adults, people will b Secondly, the Regional Issue.

Secondly, the Regional Issue

I have yet to see a reasonable explanation behind the reasons why other regions appear to consistently receive things earlier than the EU region. (This applies to game releases as well as Home). Language issues don?t cut it. There are multi-languages in the US region (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese), but they don?t appear to suffer the same issues.

Again, treat us like adults and tell us why. I understand that there may be reasons you can not divulge ? perhaps you are as frustrated as us by Sony?s international strategy and it would be understandable if you are unable to openly criticise your employer in public. But the total lack of a reasonable explanation is very frustrating. Please speak to your marketing depart Thirdly, Listeninganswer to this one.

Thirdly, Listening

In most of its consumer divisions, Sony has a global reputation as a builder and provider of well-built goods and services. However it?s also a common criticism that Sony doesn?t listen to its customers. It seems to have an approach which says ?we know best, we?ll build what we think customers want, we?ll build it well, and they?ll buy it?.

In the 70?s and 80?s this worked. There were few genuine global competitors. But the world changed and Sony didn?t. There is still time to recapture the public?s hearts and minds with the Sony brand ? but it will require a root and branch cultural change. Why not put Home at the forefront of this change. Listen to your power users. Treat them as your business partners. Learn from them. They are your future.

Despite what I?ve said above, I remain a loyal and supportive buyer of Sony?s goods and services. But I don?t like feeling that I?m being taken from granted. I look forward to your assurances that I?m not.

The community managers and staff have seen this as a matter which needs addressing and so they did with this response, straight from the Home Business Manager.

Hi everyone,

Some of you may know my name already - I?m Dan (aka Drexl), and the business and operational development of PlayStation Home for the SCEE region falls under my control.

TedTheDog, known to probably almost all of you, works in my team, and recently we?ve been chatting together about some of the feedback and opinion expressed within these forums about the status of Home in SCEE.

I?d like to directly respond to some of the comments and posts we have seen recently.

I want to make it clear that your views and opinions are VERY important to us, that we read them all, and I want to thank those of you who contribute positively, and who feed back constructively and intelligently, regardless of whether that feedback is positive or negative. As you rightly point out, community is integral to Home, its success, and its long-term future. We need you, rely on you, and appreciate you greatly.

However, some of the recent posts I have seen have been extremely negative, and on some occasions, inaccurate

I can understand some of your frustrations, and can assure you that myself and my team - not to mention the development studios who build Home, and my colleagues from other regions - are absolutely committed to the success of the platform. This evidently is not reflected in the current assessment of Home by the minority of you (and Home is still a beta service) and Home content and deployment who I?d like to address my comments on this occasion.

Home content and deployment

Let me start by saying that the architecture behind Home is built for global implementation. There are four main regions that constitute the Home business ? Europe, America, Japan and Asia (which covers Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan). We are all set up differently, and indeed we often all launch games at different times (and not at all, in some cases). To a degree, at present, Home mirrors the way our existing business is set up, but it?s a hugely complex platform, and we?re refining the way it operates. At the moment, yes, some regions have received content and spaces before SCEE, and I realize how frustrating this must be for you. However, we are working to improve our processes at a global level, and to increase the efficiency of our localisation and QA systems. In the near future, you will see a marked difference in how Home is populated with new content, games, and activities, and where possible we will be aiming for simultaneous releases of new spaces, items, mini-games etc. What we?re trying to with Home is a very ambitious undertaking, and we?re learning as we go along ? it?s challenging, but also exciting. We do take into account your feedback, and it continues to help us shape this service in the direction we all want it to mRegional complexitiesw that in the coming months you are going to see some very positive changes.

Regional complexities

It?s also worth remembering that SCEE is a very complex region, consisting of many different countries and languages. These aren?t excuses, they are just facts. PS Home is the first time we?ve tried to do something on this scale, and I?ve said before in various interviews that there will be a period of learning as we go along. We?re all in this together, and we all take it very seriously but we?re making improvements and refinements all the time. The needs of our customers are always paramount, and in a community-based service like Home, it can only benefit us to pull together with the community, not work against each other. My feeling ? and it?s a feeling that I?m confident you?ll share once you see some of the changes I mention coming into effect ? is that we are at an exciting turning point, and we?re in a position now where we can take all our learnings and channel them into delivering more of what you want, in a more timely and efficient fashion.

I can almost hear some of you now saying, ?We?ve heard all this before? I?ve always tried to been very honest and open, and have always been passionate about making changes for the better in terms of how we manage this potentially fantastic service in the future. So, I?m making a commitment to you now ? and I?m doing this with the blessing of my management team here at SCEE ? that things are going to improve, and you are going to see that some of the initiatives we?ve all been working on coming to fruition.

As a final point, I?d like to put all this into some sort of context. Home is a FREE service to download and use. None of our competitors is doing anything like this, on this scale, and with this ambition. Also, we?re in Open Beta still. We?re in Open Beta precisely for the reasons I mention above ? to learn, to refine, to evolve, and to work with the PS3 community to build Home into a platform we can all be proud of, and that we?ll want to visit every day. We see this as a very long-term ambition. We?re doing it because we believe in it, and because we want it to become an integral part of the experience you have on your PS3.

I?ve been about as honest and frank as I can be here, without divulging company-confidential information, and we want to ensure clearer channels of communication, so we can get the chance to have a frank and open dialogue more often with you as we move the platform forward.

As I said earlier, we totally welcome all feedback ? we need it, we read all of it, and we thrive on it ? but often, comments are based on a lack of understanding of the facts of a situation, so please don?t just flame us without thinking through some of the things I?ve said.

Thanks for reading ? and once again, your continued support is greatly appreciated by ALL of us.

Dan

PlayStation Home News: EA Unveils The Godfather II Space, Capcom Refreshes RE5 + Special Events!

Tomorrow, April 9th, is shaping up to be a milestone date in the ever-evolving world known as PlayStation Home?and we can?t wait for you all to log in and check out all the cool stuff we?ve had brewing!

First up, EA is launching their first PlayStation Home game space to support the newly-released The Godfather II game. This space will have a Texas Hold ?Em table and will allow you a place to gather with your fellow PlayStation Home mobsters and tighten up your poker face before EA launches its highly-anticipated Sports Complex.

To celebrate the launch of The Godfather II space, we?ll be throwing our first Celebrity Poker tournament in-world Thursday night and we?re inviting you along to play a hand (or lose a hand, if you can?t settle your debts!). Decorate your avatar to resemble one of your favorite celebrities and then get ready to throw some cards. The party starts at 5:00pm PT (8:00pm EST) and ends when it ends.

On a similarly awesome note, Capcom is further demonstrating their support for all things PlayStation Home-related by refreshing the Resident Evil 5 game space. A new mini-game quest and a souvenir shop with new costumes will be available within the space, and much more. But the best part is that all of you Resident Evil 5 freaks will get a chance to further sharpen your zombie-slaying skills on Thursday, April 16th. Between the hours of 3:00pm and 7:00pm PT (6:00pm and 10:00pm EST), PlayStation Home Community Management team members CydoniaX, BuggieTechnica, and Locust_Star will be joining up with Capcom staff to launch into co-op games of RE5 with PlayStation Home users.

The sessions will last for one chapter or 20 minutes - whichever comes first. To participate, just be sure to show up at the Resident Evil 5 game space and have the game loaded into your PLAYSTATION 3. We?ll be looking for users with the game launching icon over their heads, and if we see you we?ll jump into your game. We?ll be dressed in either the new Chris or Sheva costumes. The question is, will you?

Have you looked into the manhole in Home Square? Press X and you?ll be teleported to the Maintenance area,

the underbelly of Home. It?s all part of Xi, our Home-based adventure, which has already brought you a pan-European jigsaw puzzle, deadly space robots, and rumours of some very strange fish.

Want to know more? Find the Xi graffiti on the wall in Home Square. Your world will never look the same again.EA Sports Complex

Following on from recent dialogue with the community we are releasing this much anticipated new space in SCEE simultaneously with SCEA. Please think of this as as an English only beta within SCEE, there are bugs and, obviously, no localised text for our non-English speaking communities. The space is being fully localised and it will be updated

in the coming weeks. However, overall we felt you would like to see it within SCEE now, even in its incomplete statSTAR TREK boldy goes... to PlayStation?Home!;

As you may have seen in the gaming press in the last week or so a selection of STAR TREK merchandise,

e.g. Starfleet Uniforms and T-Shirts, is now available for free from the Threads stoMySotii

Community driven T-Shirts!

MySoti.com is a rather clever site where you can design and sell your own T-Shirts and we have partnered with the

MyStoti team to extend this service into PlayStation?Home.

Every couple of weeks the MySoti team will be choosing a new series of shirts from their own "Most Wanted" range and

these will then appear in Home for sale. And yes, the designer will get a cut of the proceeds from both real and virtual world sales. The website is in English only but the T-shirts are available to The Original V-Storere

The classic Indian T had a fantastic take up (and a special thanks to John Van Hamersveld for letting the Original V-Store

use his cult classic design.) Today sees the release of the first 20 designs from a number of V-Store partners including Billabong, Worn Free, Island Records and Teetonic. Classic T's coming to PlayStation?Home

On Friday 1st May the SCEE Home Community Q&A was held. Below is the Summary of the Q&A. People present:

Drexl ? SCEE Home Manager

One thing we've learnt from the bubble machine is we need to ensure items can't be used to grief players. We all know the bubble machine is quite a weapon in some contexts. Yes, the ability to talk to a group, perhaps your club, across instances is in the plans. Text chat is a great medium, and the idea that it's limited by only being in a single space is understood. So more traditional chat style features are something that will be added. I'm someone who's asking for that.

Hey Guys,

The next thing you will see in the EA SPORTS Complex is a fix for the racing game which will make join the game a whole lot easier.

In a few weeks there will be an update which adds a few more features to Poker:

Poker

- Leader Boards

The two screens attached to the roof support pillars in the space will now have leaderboard information for daily winners, and season leaders

- Ranking

The top 100 players for the season and for the day will be ranked and you can see if you have a ranking by looking at the bottom of the leader board

- Rewards

The EA SPORTS Texas Hold'em Poker Bracelets will now be awarded to players who win on the Red Table, and there will be a new T-shirt reward

for winning on the Green tables

- Red Tournament Table

The middle table will now become the Red Tournament table

You will need to have a positive bankroll to play on this table which means having at least 1000 points in your bankroll

- Point Rewards for Winning

On the tables your rewards will vary based on the number of players and how you finish

Green payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

Red tables pays out more than Green

- Improved camera system

You now have 4 different views of the table you play on - standard, over head, table top view 1, table top view 2

You can look at the leaderboard to see how many point the daily and season winners have posted

Watch 1 of 3 video screens

View the Scoreboard slide show

Check the Ticker for updated event information

- Table placement

By moving the location of the tables we will be able to reduce the cross chatter between tables that occurs while texting

This change should also eliminate the annoying "video screen in my ear effect" that occurs on certain seats

- Music

We have added a music track to the Poker game to make things a little more interesting

Volume control will also be added so you can toggle between 3 volume levels or turn it off completely (R2)

Source: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstatio...ding&page=1

Just played my first game of poker, good fun! Finished 4th but :(

Can't wait for the update above, we need some music during the matches and having the proper competitive tables should be fun (green/red/black - all tables are green just now).

Still playing poker, most fun I've had in Home ever

Greetings, Home-people. Locust_Star here dropping in to give you the straight truth on what new goodies to expect in PlayStation Home this week. Simply put, this is one of the biggest content updates in the history of Home – and we think you're going to dig what we have in store for you.

3505188637_3e8a31a55c.jpg

By popular demand, we have brought the Siren: Blood Curse space over from Japan (this space will appear in the European region at a later date). The basic overview is this: The Siren Home space is broken up into three basic zones. When you first enter the Siren space, you're outside the Ward of Despair, in what looks like an old, rundown carnival space. The entrance to the Ward is just a few steps away. Upon entering it, you'll find yourself in the mini-game's lobby. Inside you'll see video screens on the walls and places to sit and mingle with other players waiting their turn to enter the Ward of Despair mini game. When you're ready to play, simply approach the receptionist and she'll send you into the Ward (assuming that the background downloading is complete, which begins upon entry to the lobby scene and can take a few moments).

The Ward of Despair is the Saiga Hospital stage from this PSN downloadable game, recreated as a mini-game for Home, and playable with up to 5 players. Everyone is tasked with objectives that must be completed within the 5 minute time limit. If a Shibito, or zombie, catches you, it's game over. Also, if you can't complete the game before the time limit runs out, it's game over for everyone. Successful completion of all objectives presents the player(s) with reward items in the form of some super creepy costumes.

Take time over the weekend to visit this space and earn these reward items, as we'll be throwing a special event for those of you that manage to successfully complete the Ward of Despair mini-game. See, on Tuesday, May 12th, between the hours of 4:00pm and 7:00pm PT (6:00pm and 9:00am EST), we'll be throwing the Siren: HorrorBowl bowling tournament. Users that show up for this bowling tournament outfitted with the Siren reward items will qualify for a random giveaway of the first Siren: Blood Curse bundle (episodes 1-4), which we'll be passing out via PSN vouchers throughout the event.

In coordination with this space launch and event, the PlayStation Store will be offering a special sale on the full game and the episode bundles. The full game is now only $29.99, and each of the 3 episode bundles is only $10.99. So now's the time to head over to the store and pick up the game if you haven't already, or to snatch up those last remaining episodes to complete your collection. There's even a demo available on the PS Store, so you can try it out before you buy it.

By now, you're probably well aware of the Patapon 2 event/t-shirt launch also going on in Home on Thursday, May 7th. But I'm here to tell you that we have even more in terms of exclusive vids playing in-world for you this weekend. The fine folk behind the hilarious upcoming PSN multiplayer game Fat Princess have given us an exclusive "behind-the-scenes" developer diary video, delving into the inspiration behind this comic medieval battle royale, to air for one week in the Theater. This video will only be up for a limited time—one week only—before it makes its way to the PS Store later this month. So make sure you log in to Home and head over to the Theater to check it out before anyone else.

Moving away from this week's events and into the realm of apartments, we are pleased to announce two new premium areas coming your way this Thursday. These two apartments are a new "Log Cabin"-themed area and the Living Room Stage Set.

The Living Room Stage Set will go on sale in the PlayStation Home Mall and will be loaded with interactive lights, cameras, backdrops and movie-related equipment to simulate a real-life studio production environment. The versatile lighting and camera systems allow for a wide range of desired angles, movements, transitions, cuts and lens set-ups that allow you to take control of the technical and artistic aspects. Combined with 12 props that come with the space to decorate the set, you'll have access to the tools necessary to create your own film when hooked up to a video capture system. Priced at $4.99, the Living Room Stage Set will be available at the Estates store in PlayStation Home Mall for your directorial debut.

On top of all this, we have a metric boatload of virtual items coming down the pike including Tekken costumes and figurines and 14 Killzone 2 shirts (plus a bunch of other gear in the Threads store). We also think you'll pleased to find that the inFAMOUS pre-order and reward outfits will begin unlocking right on time.

There's more stuff to do in Home than ever before, so come on in and give it all a spin. We'll be looking for you.

Source & Video: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/06/...aystation-home/

I really wanted to try the Siren space, gutted I need to wait on SCEE :(

Content production priority change

Let's be honest, SCEE Home is behind the other regions in the number of Spaces we have to offer. That's not to say we dont have some really good clothing and furniture, we've actually got some excellent partners in the Shopping Centre. And we've also got Red Bull and Xi (the latter still has some way to run and some more surprises to bring you.) And Red Bull have another trick up their sleeve too...

But overall, we're short on Spaces in general. In isolation we dont think this makes SCEE Home a bad place but we fully understand the regional comparisons and why they're made.

In the spirit of openess being requested of us, and that we've committed to, we're going to say what we're going to do about this and in short, we're going to switch our priorities to the production of Spaces for the forseeable future. We will continue to support our partners in the Shopping Centre but our primary focus will be to improve our output and range of Spaces.

The transition from one to the other will take some time but we acknowledge that trying to do both lines (Spaces and Content) at the same time is something we do not have the resources to do currently here in the SCEE team. We have just recruited a new Production Assistant to help tackle this and once this person starts and is up to speed you should start to see improvements.

I should also mention that the SCEE Home team is entirely seperate from that of the Core Home team, the guys who build and develop the engine. They sit in World Wide Studios rather than SCEE. Each region has its own team and the Core Home team delivers the base service and client to the regional teams, who then bring their own content to the service.

Our first task is to get up to date on some of the older content that we've been missing for a while now. For example, Uncharted and Warhawk and the update to the Resident Evil 5 space. Then bring you some of the more recent spaces like Guitar Hero and then finally ensure we're able to release new Spaces at the same time as the other regions whenever possible, and theres a few of those coming your way.

The SCEE Home Producer is currently investigating 17 spaces in all but I dont believe all would be suitable and therefore not all would be published here. The timeline for this is probably about the next 2 to 4 months and there is likely to be a drop in output before it starts to really pick up and improve.

Communication

The second change to discuss is the way we talk about our new content. As explained in another thread recently, right now we wait until the very last moment so we know what is going to be published. And it's at this point we write the messages and get them translated and this leads to last minute communication or even, as we've seen recently, the content being released before the communication.

What we're going to try and do in the future is quite a big change in that we're going to aim to communicate what's coming to Home in SCEE one week in advance.

Instead of waiting until the last minute we will be asking the production team to commit to a package to be published, as best they can, about 2 weeks in advance. We then write up the messages about this content and localise it, (which takes 1-4 days depending on text length, but 2 days is the norm) and then publish in the forums, hopefully on the Thursday the week before.

Sometimes things will fall out of the publication package at the last minute, 2 weeks is a long time in content production.

This means we will publish what we intend to bring to you about a week in advance and any last minute changes to this plan will be communicated at the last minute. This may be a better experience for everyone than messaging everything at the last minute when we know for sure whats going to be published. There will be disappointments when content fails at the last minute and you've been looking forward to it for a week, but you'll be much better informed overall.

MEGATON!

They finally added normal beards, that is all.

Eureka!! 6 or so months give or take and I can finally give myself a proper beard!!!

Now if they could just put a foreclosure on Home and shut it down for good, we might be in business!!

I know none of you guys really use Home but for a week a new Home apartment is going for free, afterwards it will cost.

    • Uhm, that's every business ever, though. It doesn't matter if a bajillion users are using it. As long as it's not making bank, it's probably headed for the graveyard.
    • Yeah Patchou was an active member here, good ol' times indeed.
    • Samsung is the new Google... they don't care if millions of people are using it.
    • Still no word on Tides of Annihilation...... so weird that it wasn't shown at the big Game Fest. Guess I'll put it in the bin like Judas and Squadron 42.
    • Samsung is shutting down yet another app used by millions by David Uzondu Samsung has announced that it is shutting down Samsung Max, its VPN service used by more than 50 million people, effective today. Samsung Max VPN, if you don't know, was an Android app born on February 23, 2018, out of the ashes of Opera Max, a very popular data-saving VPN that Opera had discontinued the previous year. Samsung bought the discontinued service, rebranded it, and added a native Samsung UI to fit the Galaxy ecosystem. The app could do things like compress images, help you manage background data on a per-app basis, reduce video data consumption, shrink music files, optimize webpages, block advertisement trackers in incognito mode, and encrypt your internet traffic on public Wi-Fi networks. Image via SammyGuru If you open the app now, you'd be greeted by a shutdown banner warning that all VPN, data saving, and privacy services stopped functioning on June 15, 2026. The creators failed to provide a reason for the shutdown, instead publishing a farewell note that read: "Thank you for being with us over the years. Your support and activity truly meant a lot to us and helped shape this app into what it became." This same message appears on the Google Play Store listing for the app as well. Max VPN is the latest service from Samsung to join the list of discontinued applications from the company. Just two months ago, the Korean tech giant announced that it is completely shutting down Samsung Messages, forcing millions of users to migrate to Google Messages by next month. The only devices that the shutdown won't affect are older smartphones running Android 11 or lower. Some of the features of Google Messages that Samsung hopes will entice users include AI-powered scam detection to block suspicious links, integrated Gemini AI tools to generate quick replies, custom chat bubbles, and universal RCS compatibility for sharing high-quality media with iOS users. The platform also offers seamless syncing across tablets and smartwatches. In addition to that, users gain access to message scheduling, smart classification, and automated category sorting.
