Spotify - Amazing Legal music App

Question

I came across www.spotify.com a few days ago, and I must say it's amazing! Been using it ever since, and haven't had a need to open itunes at all. Has pretty much every song I search for, and plays instantly with no buffering or problems etc, for a beta its very good. Anyway, it was invite only but today it's gone public so anyone and everyone can sign up. Give it a go, see what you think, i think it's a new revolution in how we will listen to music in the future.

I blocked basically as why does it need to access my router? No program should have to access the router in order to run. Call me paranoid, erm where did I put that tin foil hat :p, but I don't like things that do unexpected things or want access to things it shouldnt.

Had to post again. This application is simply awesome! I'm like a kid with a new toy!

Can't believe how good it actually is. I've been searching for random things to catch it out too and there's only been a very select few it hasn't found.

I don't know much about networking, but doesn't everything that requires net access, need to connect to your router first?

No nothing should ask to connect to the routers config page (192.168.1.1) or even want to connect to it, hence my paranoia :/

I've asked the developers so hopefully will get an answer to why you had this problem shortly.

Johnston,

Do you know of any of the new features which will be added by the developers? Or are they trying to keep the client as minimalist as possible?

A few things I've noticed so far:

  • When changing song with shuffle enabled, can the playlist focus to the new song
  • Ability to display the size of the playlist you have created
  • Search box which can filter songs from your created playlist

Haven't noticed any bugs yet though so thumbs up!

Just to add my fedback here too: Awesome service! I'm really interested to see where this goes in the near future... not quite sure how they manage to licence all this music for streaming - one of the best things about it is the sheer diversity and amount of albums / tracks available.

I can't fault this -

I tried the acid test, which to me is searching for Classical music. I only listen to some these days, although it dominated my childhood.

In my experience, finding classical music is very difficult on the internet, free or otherwise. Here, try searching for something as obscure (relatively) like "Winchester Cathedral Choir" & you strike gold. The *second* (much harder & rarer) movement of the Moonlight Concerto - easy.

I'm quite a cynical person & I am very very impressed.
