[Official] Killzone 2

All this talk about people actually liking and getting used to the controls has me very confused I even went as far as changing controllers and running the game on another system to see if there was something wrong with my PS3.

I will admit this is my first time playing an FPS with the PS3 controller, which in my opinion was not designed with FPS's in mind. No way.

But after a solid few rounds and games I am absolutely certain that it is not my fault and that it is not a merely a factor of me getting used to it, the controls feel down right broken and stiff, the aiming is literally like steering a boat through a tsunami. It's terrible.

Every other FPS I have played on a console I have not had a problem with, I even gave the FEAR 2 demo a go on the PS3 and that felt fine, although less superior then the 360 version controls wise, it felt miles ahead of Killzone.

I think what it boils down to is that when I'm playing Killzone 2 I am constantly reminded that I am controlling the character because I always realise the controller is in my hand and I am always struggling with it, in every other FPS dating back to Golden Eye I was totally and utterly unaware while i was playing that I am in fact holding a controller and could focus on what was on the screen, but in the case of Killzone 2 I spend more type cursing the controls then I do thinking of strategies...

oh and shotgun aim assist = mega fail

And I agree that the pad layout isn't horrible, but mapping the firing button to R1 and not R2 was a strange idea. Of course, the whole movement of the control scheme feels wrong but that is most likely because the PS3 pad is not an FPS pad in the least. It is really irritating to move something in two different directions when they are in identical positions (joystick), so it fights against your natural tendencies, or at least mine.

There's a control scheme with fire mapped to R2 [and nothing else changed]. I think it might be standard 2.

I was using it for the demo, but I've just left it on standard 1 since actual release.

have you guys checked Killzone.com's stats? apparently all my stats have been wiped out. :s

Mines have been wiped too, but that's not the only thing.

It seems like everything has been wiped. Even the clan doesn't exist anymore. :s

I hope they're just doing a server update on the site or something so its just not available right now or I'm gonna be really ****ed.

Edit: went on the game and checked, and everything is still fine there.

I would honestly want to say.. they should change the rankings a little bit. It's now waaay too easy to a high rank. People in the next month are going to be all generals.. lol.. get what I mean?

yeh it was way too easy to become a general, It only took around 13 hours.

edit: thanks HTF :)

Yeah that's true.

Hopefully they do change it and add more rewards or something.

The game looks great. It's probably one of the nicest looking games so far, though I highly doubt that anyone else will have 5 years to make another game with this much polish. Ok, GT5 maybe and COD5 from IW will probably come close :)

You do have that feeling of wearing some armor or something. Bullets feel heavier. Spectacular fighting scenes and blowing up. All positives, I don't even have problems with accuracy or the fact that you have to fire off more bullets as some reported. That's all giving to the fighting feeling. The problem with this game IMO is in controls and it's not a small one.

I have serious problems with this game's controls and their fluidity and feel. Big disappointment. They make such a visual feast and completely mess it up like this. Instead of enjoying the spectacle before your eyes and fighting and blowing up I constantly deal with it and it really makes me frustrated at times.

Several things as I don't know if others have experienced the same things:

1. Moving left and right while running is not possible or very slow to the point where you can't hold the direction you're running in.

2. It's incredibly hard to hide, crouch and shoot at the same time. You completely lose the ability to move.

3. When hiding or crouching there's no way to aim down the sights.

4. Auto sensing for melee is broken. Shooting and when they approach at about 10 feet I start swinging for no apparent reason.

5. Tapping several times on melee button engages the melee animation how many times I tapped the button completely making me unable to move or turn until the sequence is done.

6. No auto-reload when in cover or aiming down the sights. You have to get out of sight mode, tap a button to reload and then aim again. It won't automatically start the reload if you are in sights mode and it will if you are shooting from the hip.

I've faced a few more but I can't remember right this second but are others experiencing this? It just feels as such a step down from the smoothness of COD4 controls for example, it's down right making me stop playing the game.

I forgot this part, but I had some pretty major glitches when I played for a mere 10 minutes. First glitch was having an enemy run clear through a pillar. I could not shoot him while he was inside and there was no real reason for him to go through it. Was the most bizarre thing I had seen since the game was running so smooth. The next glitch was similar, but it was just a book suddenly dropping through the top of a table. Dunno if anyone else has experienced this or not.

Yeah that's true.

Well for leveling ranks is a great idea, it's just I was thinking If someone sees someone as a High Ranking Officer.. that would mean he would have spent more than 2 months in getting there. Rank should say the person has alot of experience

I hate the shotgun

I love the shotgun :p

Top 1%?!

Shhhhhhiiiiieeeeeeet!

I thought seeing this was good

not actually me but

I got that :D It gave me the first 3 trophies for weekly honors. Now I just need to get to the top 1% for the gold trophy :p

Tonight was the second night I played the MP and I've come to realize that this is one of the most fun console MP games I've played. It would be damn near perfect if it weren't for the controls.

I know lots of people gripe about the controls, and I'm can be clumped in with them, but the controls and the aiming keep me from having even a better time than I already am.

Also, am I the only one that notices that the camera on your player's body seems a little off. I notice this more in the single player than the multiplayer. I kind of wish it had a little bit more peripheral vision, and there are even times that I notice that when I'm standing next to someone, I'm not looking at their face. It's like I'm playing a midget.

I've seen a few glitches with players passing through solid objects but not too often and not to the point where I think it is deliberate glitching for cheating purposes etc.

The dead zone on the aiming is a bit annoying but I find it's easier to move your feet than the sights sometimes. And speaking of aim, has anyone noticed that you cannot hit someone through the gaps in a fence despite being able to see them clearly? You always hit the railing/fence.......

    • I hope this encodes in to AV1 or AV2 as currently tiktok uses h265 and h264.
    • Qualcomm reportedly in talks to build custom video chips for TikTok parent ByteDance by Karthik Mudaliar Qualcomm is reportedly in advanced discussions to provide custom chip-design services to Chinese tech giant ByteDance, the same company behind TikTok. According to a report from Reuters, Qualcomm could be involved in designing custom silicon tailored for ByteDance's massive data-center workloads. If it goes through, the deal would make ByteDance one of Qualcomm's early anchor customers for its fastly growing custom chip-design division, For years, Qualcomm was the king of making smartphone processors and modems. The company has also been moving into the PC ecosystem and other formats such as on-device AI for Android XR headsets. However, this particular deal is about Qualcomm's custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). For a platform like TikTok, ByteDance needs hardware that can help it ingest, process, and serve billions of short-form videos daily. Generalised hardware is no longer the most cost-effective and efficient route, which is why ByteDance is trying to develop custom Video Processing Units (VPUs). VPUs designed specifically for ByteDance’s algorithmic needs could drastically reduce data-center power consumption and improve encoding speeds at an unprecedented scale. The underlying tech behind these processors is actually from Qualcomm's recent acquisition of AlphaWave Semi, a high-speed connectivity specialist company. By combining AlphaWave’s high-bandwidth IP with Qualcomm’s architectural expertise, the company could begin mass production by the end of 2026, if the talks go through. All this also comes at a time when U.S.-China tech relations have dwindled. Escalating trade frictions between Washington and Beijing have severely impacted the export of high-end AI chips from U.S. firms like Nvidia, AMD, and Lam Research. Yet, the Qualcomm-ByteDance discussions show that U.S. tech companies are still actively seeking growth avenues and are open to doing business with China, where regulators still permit. Reuters notes that the outcome of this deal could be uncertain, and ByteDance might also seek partners other than Qualcomm. via Reuters | Image via DepositPhotos.com
