In an alternate 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen?

I'm planning to see this tomorrow, and I'm really excited about this movie! I haven't read the book, but I'd love to give it a read sometime. There's also a motion version of the comic for those interested.

I just got back from watching the movie. While the movie itself was very good, it had some flaws:

-The background music for certain scenes were very unfitting. For example, In the opening scene, "Unforgettable" was played. It's supposed to be a happy kind of song, not one that fits a murder scene.

-It's a shame that some scenes from the comic were cut out. Although the ending was changed, I felt it wasn't too bad. I'd love to see the director's cut of the film when it comes out.

-I felt they focused a little too much on the sex scenes. They could of used the dragged out times to give some background story on the characters.

I just saw Watchmen today. Had read the book first and thought the movie was awesome. I think it was pretty close to the book, with a couple minor and one major change. Still, a very good movie.

I can't wait for the extended version to come out on DVD. It will include the Black Freighter scenes. As well as Hollison's death. Other than those two major cuts, everything that was changed I think was best to suit the medium for a film. The only gripe I had was the poor transitioning between the flashbacks and the cemetery scene. In the graphic novel they were done beautifully, panning over the respective characters, but in the movie it just cut too abruptly.

I also went to see Watchmen tonight. I was seriously amazed by how good it actually was. I'll be honest and say that I was expecting it to be all action and corny comic book stuff (Spiderman). It wasn't that at all! I highly recommend this movie to everyone as it is one of the best films I have seen today, let alone comic book movie.

I think this movie could take in more than Batman, but I don't think it will because it's not quite as well known and many people will stay away from it based on that fact.

Awesome movie for those who have read it. Might-be-awesome movie for those who haven't. I think if you have not read the comic, the movie won't flow well. It might look like scene after scene after scene without any real momentum. It doesn't build towards the next scene. But for those who have read it, I think you know what to expect and generally this issue is submerged.

Mind you, both the comic and the movie isn't plot-heavy. The plot is relatively simple and most of it happens near the end. What it is is extremely character-driven with lots of backstories.

I didn't really like the new ending. I just didn't feel it worked as well as the original.

Other than that, I did enjoy it. I'll echo what everyone else said about it missing some key scenes and looking forward to the director's cut.

Well I didn't read the comic before seeing this and I had a hard time trying to figure out what was going on sometimes. It was a great movie and the music score was great.

4/5

I hated this film. It was terrible.

It was WAY to long for the amount of action we actually get.

Couldn't agree more with that statement.

the movie was ok was better then i thought it would be

the music score didnt match some of the scenes which was irritating and some parts seemed to be dragged on longer than they should have been

Didnt' read the comic or whatever before, didn't even know about it but I thought this film was awesome.

I loved how very sadistic some of the murders were, how well orchestrated Rorschach executed them so that they either died terrified to the point of insanity or suffered vast amounts of pain.

Yeah, I felt that was very true.

I saw it today and thought it was fantastic. I've not read the graphic novel, but I'm certainly keen on reading it now. I found that the film was not particularly hard to follow, which was a concern going in, again, having not read it. I also thought the musical score was excellent, some of the best use of music in a film I've seen for a while. While it was certainly long, I never found it tedious. I must also praise the CG effects, art style, fight choreography, camera work, and editing, all of which were excellent.

Edit: I feel I should point out that none of what I said above applys to the Theatrical Trailer, which I thought was terrible. I almost didn't see this film because the trailer made it look so average.

That's what you're gonna get when you go in expecting action. The film even has more action than the comic. Certainly more over the top, which I didn't particularly like. They are costumed heroes, not superheroes. One kick shouldn't cause a thug to fly back 10 metres.

I think I expected more. I enjoyed the film but I felt that the trailer misrepresented what the film was. In the trailer it showed lots and lots of action scenes and in the movie .. well if you saw the trailer that is almost all the Action scenes total. I wouldn't of minded all the talking and story telling if it was backed up with what the Trailer lead me to believe the film would be about. Quite depressing because I've been waiting to see this movie since the first Teasers came out.

Also the film contained I felt unnecessary Gore and Adult Situations. And by that I mean they felt tacked on to shock the viewer in to believing this was a masterpiece when in fact it was just tasteless. This is just my opinion of course not like I'm a professional critic or anything.

1/5 from me. I hope T4 lives up to its trailer..

Well you have to understand that I haven't read the comic with this particular film, and the trailer kind of pumped up the action more so than what we actually got.

As for the superhero/costumed heroes debate, I actually had that debate with a few friends that I went with and we all agreed that the reason they showed it to use like that was because we were actually being told the story through the diary, so the interpretation of what actually happened was beefed up by the journalist at the end of the film. Just our opinion, but that explains away how they were able to do that.

I just saw it, really liked it overall. Even if I haven't read the novel.

I like the Rorschach character, I like the Dr. Manhattan character. The whole spinoff story of what could have happened if we won the Vietnam war.

The music was pretty good to.

I just want to read the novel and see which is better.

Could not agree more, great read. I and my children were bored....I got pumped with one line I am not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me That was the only goose bumps I got!

Couple of my friends have seen it and they say it's nearly as bad as The Spirit.

Spirit was worse....the way this one was advertised.....it stank!

Yup! False advertising, even the stuff about how this movie was done by the 300 guy....I was all pumped.....deflated quickly.

It was actually not what I expected, I am a very big recent fan of the graphic novel, and I actually really, really liked it.

And let me say, I never want to see another movie again unless it is in IMax like I saw this tonight.

I thought Imax just meant the theaters that are shaped like a globe almost, but this when meant a slightly curved screen with DLP projection with by far the cleanest and clearest picture I have ever seen at the movies. It was like having my 50" Sony DLP TV blown up 200 times bigger, and not losing any of the picture quality. Does anyone know what the native resolution is for movies that are shot in IMax? It has to be higher than 1080p I am thinking.

Also never thought I would say this, but after seeing the trailer for it tonight, really looking forward to Star Trek.

But I definitely think the Watchmen without a doubt caters to the fans first and foremost, and I could definitely see if a person never read it and went to this movie, they very well could easily hate this movie. Was interesting to see some of the larger "sacrifices" they made for adapting it to the screen, and quite honestly I did expect it to be a bit more stylistic, but overall I really, really liked it.

8/10 from me.

Yeah, IMAX is pretty insane. Even though, unlike the Dark Knight, Watchmen is just basically upconverted 35mm film. The native resolution of IMAX however is 10,000?7000.
