I made this video to show a friend what kind of effects / soundpacks were available for the game at the moment, mainly meant to show the particle effects, explosions, sounds and a few night-time changes - Just these few 'tweaks' really adds a ton to the game :)

At least the A-10 sounds realistic now, can't believe Bohemia couldn't get that right.

I also received my TrackIR last week and it adds leaps and bounds to a game like this, such an amazing piece of kit to own.

I just love bumping this thread

Although, this time it's a modification milestone; A.C.E 2 Public Beta :woot: Any ArmA player unfamiliar with A.C.E, shame on you!

Here's the Biki overview, check out "Features of ACE2" at the bottom of it: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ACE2

Armaholic download link: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8601 and I suggest you go for the Yoma method, their own SIX Updater is so convoluted.

cant wait for 1.05, always wary of anti-cheat software after PB banned me from BF2 for nothing, but if it cuts down on the rampant cheating/glitching online that would be great.

I assume you filed an appeal with whatever anti-cheat site banned you? Because Punkbuster only dishes out global bans itself for violations that are 100% proven to not cause false positives. Regardless, not all anti-cheat is evil - and I think this will be a good move by BIS.

Errrrm, Houston ... We uhhh, we have a patch release;

btw. patch is universal and works also with STEAM version !

(just make sure You disable automatic updates for ARMA 2 before patching and keep it disabled after patching done)

Nobody can tell you, it's completely random. It all depends on what the server is trying to achieve - Be it a regular public server with default game-modes, then it will most likely not be using any addons or perhaps it's a specific type of warfare server, like Desert combat for an example and will require desert maps / units etc.

Check out the title, as most of them will tell you whether they're using addons or not, the name sometimes is a clue in itself. Most

decent servers also have a clan URL or something in the title so you know where to go for information on the addons they're using.

The beauty of this game is the immense customizability but it can also by annoying when trying to go online. That's why most people join clans / squads or stay on regular servers - This isn't really meant as a server-jumping game.

Oh and most self-respecting servers these days are using ACE 2, so that's a decent place to start.

sethos you still play arma2? i have been playing on the kellys heroes server most nights and its a lot of fun, keep meaning to collect my old saitek cyborg stick from my mothers so i can learn to fly

I do yes but I don't play on public servers, don't even play Multiplayer any more - I tend to stay in the Mission Editor and create my own mini-scenarios and have fun there.

Have you installed ACE 2 yet? The only way to play ArmA is with ACE :p

new beta build 1.05.71548 (server 1.05.71547) was released

with aim to improve stability and performance :

+ multicore/multicpu systems

+ systems with 4GB or more RAM

http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

[71543] File cache size increased a lot on systems with 4 GB RAM or more.

[71484] Fixed: C130 was crashing on takeoff.

[71373] Fixed crash http://dev-heaven.net/issues/11097

[71143] Improved: -cpuCount=4 is now default on computers with more than four logical CPUs to prevent hyperthreading causing performance problems. If you want to use more CPUs, use -cpuCount=N to override this.

[71117] Optimized: Geometry loading in now optimized for multiple cores. Extra threading now enabled by default on computers with more that 2 CPUs. New possible -exThreads values: 5 (thread geometry loading only) and 7 (thread all)

[70817] Fixed: Crash while rendering some custom worlds, e.g Schmalfelden

[70793] Fixed: Character animation jerky after a unit disembarked a vehicle (http://dev-heaven.net/issues/3116)

[70790] Fixed: Fps stayed low after spawning and deleted many units. See http://dev-heaven.net/issues/5147

[70663] New: Weather config values "size" and "height" for better control over the cloud layer. Default values: size = 1.0; height = max(bright,0.6)

[70661] Improved: File handle management when more then 448 pbos are present is now more efficient.

[70651] Improved: Increased limits to prevent "Too many virtual memory blocks requested" error.

[70650] Fixed: Crash possible when loading map with older binarized format (pre 20, e.g. Schmalfelden).

[70646] Fixed: Some objects were shortly "flashing" while changing LODs.

[70582] Improved: Increased dynamic cloud layer visibility.

[70493] Fixed: Shadow artifacts visible on some windows while moving.

[70484] Fixed: Car horn not played in MP

[70439] Fixed: Transient z-fight-like shadows artifacts while zooming.

[70372] Fixed: AI vision was too good on moonless nights.

[70198] Fixed: Steam Overlay used during loading screen no longer disabled the keyboard.

[70192] New: Parameter exThreads=N to control extra threading. Following values of N are currently supported: 0 = no extra threads, 1 = file operations, 3 = texture loading

New beta 71548 contains some improvements in RAM management and some preparations for the next step, which will be enabling the application as LARGEADDRESSAWARE (running as LARGEADDRESSAWARE should fix the out of memory issues on 64b systems).

so what this does mean is :

the default auto memory size allocation was improved

for now the LAA flag is not enabled and if all goes right it will be available in week(s) time

yet filecache is excluded from the virtual address limit

(it always was, see our developers blog here : http://www.bistudio.com/developers-blog/breaking-the-32-bit-barrier-2_en.html

if you have more than 4 native cores or wanna risk possible issues with HT virtual cores you need change cpuCount

also if You have tricore You shall try to use -cpuCount=3

more details about cpuCount and exThreads

    • These features described above are good, but far from what developers will like the most. The main feature that developers will care and love the most it's called "Bring Your Own Models". It gives us the ability to connect to LOCAL AI models running on Ollama. The feature it's located on GitHub Copilot tab -> On the model picker where you can select "manage models" instead of paid models and then it will show you the "Bring your own models" window where you can now select Ollama and the endpoint of your local server. So if you have a beefy spec machine you can now use your own model 100% local inside Visual Studio 2026 18.7.0
    • Microsoft Teams is getting a controversial location tracking feature that users may hate by Usama Jawad Image generated with Microsoft Copilot Earlier this year, Microsoft planned to roll out a controversial location tracking feature in Teams, but following customer feedback, it decided to delay its release. The bad news is that the company has decided to launch it later this year, but it's based on roughly the same design that was shared earlier, which means that many users still have good reason to worry. Basically, Microsoft Places and Teams have received workplace check-ins via Wi-Fi. The idea is that if an employee arrives at the office and connects to their enterprise network, their profile status indicator will show them as being present in the office. For example, if you arrive at work, open Teams on your PC, and connect to the "Studio B" company Wi-Fi network, your Teams profile will indicate that you are present in "Studio B", as shown below: Microsoft says that this feature is basically a replacement for physical workplace check-in peripherals, it reduces the need to manually update your status, and it also enables co-workers to know that you're at work so that they can coordinate in-person meetings with you. IT admins can enable this workplace check-in capability at a tenant level, and users have the ability to control whether they want to enable it or not. Of course, all of that sounds great on paper, but naturally, many Teams customers may still have concerns, as they did before. This is because it enables your reporting manager and other members of the organization to track if you are at the office, when you arrive at the office, and where you are right now. This could be problematic for people who work in what they consider to be flexible work environments or hybrid setups, and this kind of location tracking could be considered an invasion of privacy. Microsoft has tried to alleviate some of these concerns by letting users know that they can manually set their location easily, which essentially overrides workplace check-in if they feel uncomfortable with it. However, that doesn't really solve the problem because your organization could enforce a workplace policy that mandates that this feature remains enabled. The Redmond tech giant has also assured users that this capability does not store historical data and is only a real-time indicator of location. Finally, it only generates a signal when you connect to a corporate network, which means that if you are working from home and connect your PC to your personal Wi-Fi, it won't broadcast your location to your employer; you will simply be shown as "Remote". Microsoft has encouraged IT admins to prepare for this change and begin informing users so they know what to expect once it begins rolling out later this year.
    • Wow, Microsoft IS cooking lately... This only shows that they COULD improve, they just chose not to for whatever reasons. That obsession with AI was destroying them from the inside out.
