The whole Borg and Q thing really would cause problems in the alternate universe however I believe their would be no real change between the Borg we known and the ones in the alternate universe as their nature and development was never affected by the Federation in the early years.

I like the new timeline but the old one was a classic and shouldn't be dismissed so easily, previous story lines taught us that when there were changes in the time line certain species were able to detect it.

I'd love to see JJ do the Borg. Hopefully he can do them the justice they deserve, and restore the threat that they once were before Voyager destroyed their image.

After thinking about this, I'd prefer it if they did a story based on something that happened in the TOS era. The original Star Trek series is full of bad aliens and almost-unexplainable phenomenon.

Star Trek villain Khan will not feature in the upcoming J.J. Abrams sequel, it has been claimed.

Khan, a Star Trek villain from the original TV series as well as the feature film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, was expected to be the central villain in Abrams's next film in the franchise.

However, Movie Web has allegedly received a report that the sequel will not feature the beloved villain. Instead, a different classic Star Trek character will be the focus of Abrams's next film.

"It's definitely a character that will make fans of (the original series) excited," said a source. "Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it's one of those that I named."

Star Trek 2 is slated for a June 29, 2012 release.

I hope they do a story on the Klingons. They were the regular baddies in the original series.

That's an interesting list of potential baddies. My guess is the sequel will revolve around Gary Mitchell.

Anyway, check out the Memory Alpha articles:

As much as I'd like to see the Klingons, I thnk a story based on them would be... uninteresting. I'd rather see them in the movie than watch one that's based on them. In Star Trek, we barely saw any "known" aliens other than the Vulcans and Romulans.

I thought the battle in ST6 was just as good if not better simply because of the SFX being 1 billion times more realistic, and the awesomness that was Chang.

"I can see you Kirk, can you see me? Oh now be honest Captain, warrior to warrior. You do prefer it this way, as it was meant to be. No peace in our time. Once more unto the breach dear friends." <--- Godlike. (And yes, even more godlike than Khan, yes I said it!)

Oh, ya I agree, that battle was great though a bit short, but since people are talking about the new movie bringing back khan I kept it limited to ST2. But I agree with you, all those quotes just made it that bit more epic.

Personally, I think Chang was a bit more "acceptable" to me as a villian, simply because Khan was just so over the top and 2 dimensional (ha!) while Chang was at least Klingon and you knew he and Kirk just hated each other because of that. Not to mention, quoting classic English literature just makes you cooler. Everyone knows that. Hell, even Khan knew that :D

I wouldn't want to see Khan in the new movie to be honest now. I'd much rather them use someone/thing else from the TOS era, or something totally new like others have said. Trelane could be awesome, especially if they actually link him to the Q AND have John DeLancie show up (even for just a small role) as Q. Harry Mudd, meh. Not to interested, the original actor made that role what it was imo. The others/other races etc they mention, could work but they are totally unknown to the new audience, but then again so would Khan/Trelane/Q/Borg/anything else we mention in this thread, so I doubt they would care much :p

I doubt the Borg would be introduced so early. I also doubt they even did anything in the alpha quadrant during the TOS era. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to a sequel. I recently watched the movie (again, in HD) and it's awesome. The direction they've taken with Star Trek in general is just awesome. It feels more real and gritty compared to the previous series and movies.

Although I don't think it's been explicitly stated in the films or TV shows, I believe VGer is supposed to have been the progenitor of the Borg.

Talosians somehow seem likely to me, as we're right back at the beginning of the timeline, although as events have changed it could make an interesting story. They clearly have great intelligence and technology and could be formidable foes. Perhaps they could even sense that things aren't the way they should be? Perhaps they have a motivation to try and put the timeline back in the right order again? Yes, I think there could be a story to be told there.

Nah, it was stated in First Contact that the Borg were already alive and well by the events of First Contact.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
